I would say we need a guy who does it all, not one or the other. I know that might be stating the obvious, but I think we've lacked a "complete" coach. Coaching acumen + personality and culture setter who grinds.

Supply and demand. You ask for it, the dealer will supply it.
-
I will bet $1000 of your hard earned money Brownell will not be the hire.

Talk about entitlement though. He'd be nothing if it wasn't for IU and he acts like he knows everything. Zero respect. A simple provocateur with very unoriginal or interesting ideas or insight. Is he still pining for an IU guy?
-
I understand. He'll finish out his contract most likely (which I don't know when that ends) But I don't see either party agreeing to a new one after that. This has nothing to do with IUBB btw.

The NBA isn't college. They don't just keep coaches around because of their track record. If you aren't making the playoffs on a regular basis you'll get fired. Donovan is definitely on the hot seat. The Bulls are a mess right now and notoriously cheap. Donovan is top ten in salary. They aren't paying him to lose regardless of their terrible roster management etc.

I am not saying Dolson's a genius, but it seems like he'd know if Stevens was really an option or not pretty quickly. I've never really understood this "let me think about it..." notion. He either wants the job or he doesn't. I don't think Stevens would be this wishy washy. So if he wants the job and the contract demands were met, he'd give a commitment pretty quickly. If he didn't want the job, I don't think he'd play games and string IU along.

As I recall, I think a lot of people thought he'd end up at Duke, but WVU might have been mentioned as well.
-
People had Cig on the list, just not as a favorite when guessing. But people tend to gravitate toward who/what they know best, and all the others were definitely more well known.
-
Reneau is really good. I would try to keep him.

IUFB was predicted to be a bottom feeder in the conference and got "demolished" by the two teams that played for the championship. I think May is a good coach, but the optics are not great since he signed his contract extension.

I don't have an argument one way or another, but keep in mind he was one of the people pumping Drew and TJ and now he's saying "as expected". So he may have sources, but he doesn't seem to be able to predict interested candidates. Let's see when/if provides concrete evidence on who is actually in the running/interested and how it turns out.

Does this rumor have any real legs? Also "looked into" (ie a possible candidate) and "wanted to hire" is much different. I doubt that it would have gotten so far as to "I want to hire this guy" and Whitten said "no". What he did and the ongoing litigation would have seemingly removed his name from the candidate pool pretty quickly. He's still out there not coaching. So I doubt that a P5 program wanted to hire him but now he can't get a job anywhere?

Recruiting. I think the theory here is you wouldn't have to recruit "as much" with NIL because you'll have an offer on the table that is either acceptable or not and move on if not. So you don't have to keep recruiting certain guys as much? This notion that the NBA is much easier is a bit odd to me. The travel and the length of the season is pretty difficult. Seems to be a lot more older coaches in college than then NBA. With some success, job security is a lot better than the NBA. NBA coaches regularly get fired after one season.

Yeah, you have to at least give some sort of hint of who or what.
-
Are you referring to Zeller? Didn't he go to one game or did I miss something?

Like I mentioned the other day, very few former NBA head coaches with no previous college hc experience, coach in college. There are a lot of examples of good to great college coaches doing poorly in the NBA and going back to college. I think some people are confusing former NBA players doing poorly as college head coaches recently.
-
I wonder what our new coach would do with this team, instead of Woody, considering this topic is about the candidates, not Woody.
-
One could definitely make the argument that building a college team/program is much more interesting basketball wise.
-
"I've got my own topic thread yet I'm being talked about in a new coaching thread. I've still got it." -Mike Woodson
-
He's not the only one though.
-
Ex-NBA players, not Ex-NBA head coaches. Big difference.

I get people don't like what he says, but at times I think his "perspective" is ok. A lot of what's said isn't backed by actual facts just what people want to believe. His recruiting predictions are bad, but he normally just says Peegs doesn't know ****, and for the most part he's right.
