  1. Say what you will, but this half is all about bad substitution patterns and lineup combinations. We had some momentum. It’s the tourney. X and TJD don’t need to sit for five minutes in the first half. Geronimo benched because of the silly 2-first-half-foul philosophy.
  2. Okay. We survived the starting five lineup and the offensive lineup of death. Let’s get a good five on the court.
  3. Gonzaga line is 22.5. Incredible how sharp the lines are even in big favorites.
  4. Iowa showing what happens to a team that can’t defend, when their shots aren’t falling.
  5. Had to do a double-check on the box score. P-Stew played 37 minutes tonight?? That’s far too many minutes. Wow.
  6. You know, we do HAVE a defensive lineup that could close out a 10-point lead. Just a thought.
  7. I must have missed it, are TJD and X in foul trouble?
  8. Smart money starting to come in on IU. Line moved to -4.5
  9. You know they salivated at the opportunity to have us with a potential matchup with UK or Purdue.
  10. McCaffery crying after a big ten tournament title seems a little much. Conference tourneys are a fun way to end the season an all, but if that’s the mountain top for you emotionally I don’t know.
  11. Can confirm this is false. It isn’t structural damage. Should be back at practice Tues/Wed.
  12. Again, respectfully, because I enjoy the banter and an alternative point of few to consider - but I don’t believe it really is debatable that our starting five is not our best lineup. To your point, Woody does see them every day in practice - but some of us on the board see those practices or have access to those who do as well. Woody has a lot of great qualities and is a great leader of young men and coach, but it’s also well documented that he’s stubborn and still green on coaching in college. Miller and Parker have shown what they are and are not at this point. They struggle to defend due to lack of footspeed and basketball IQ. They are spot-up shooters that lack confidence unless they hit their first couple shots of the game. Neither can create their own shot consistently. I think some of the frustration from many of us isn’t based on the proven production of Bates/Galloway/Geronimo/Phinisee as replacements for the MK/PS minutes (although to some extent it actually is) - but the unknowns of what they could potentially have given us with those minutes. Maybe Tamar isn’t quite ready for the moment yet and would struggle to find his shot. Maybe Geronimo still needs to get more consistent with his shot. Maybe Gallo still struggles to play under control. None of them got the 25-30 mins a game that MK/PS had to fully show us who they are. But they all have a higher work rate/skill set on D, and it’s unlikely they’d perform worse than 3-16 FG (today) or 4-13 FG (yesterday) that we got from Miller and Parker - so what’s the downside of giving them the chance? I’m pro Woody. I like what we’ve done this year. I’m proud of the team and enjoyed how they closed out the season. That doesn’t mean I can’t wish for more for them. I don’t think I’m alone in believing that the dedication to our “senior shooters” cost us in terms of reaching our fullest potential, and more certainly came at a cost of developing young guys with higher ceilings who project to be a bigger part of rebuilding this program over the next 2-3 years. Overall, I’m thrilled with the play recently and excited to see it carry over to the tourney. We should all be proud. Go Hoosiers next week in the dance (men AND women!)
  13. And winning the games seems to cloud memories about the idea that those options would have potentially helped us win more comfortably. The Kopp/Stewart combo heavily contributed to us being down 17 to Michigan before those other options came in and changed the game. It’s great we won those two games, I’m thrilled and proud. But that doesn’t mean I can’t state the obvious and wish we didn’t HAVE to come back from down 17, or beat Illinois going away by 10-15 points, and close out Iowa by guarding the three point line and playing with a higher basketball IQ. Those “options” that seem better on the bench, are statistically and by the eye test, better on the floor than our starting five. I’m not sure it’s even debatable at this point.
  14. What’s with Nantz and co. continuing to call Bohannon’s shot “one of the great shots you’ll see” and not recognizing it was a prayer that banked high of the backboard? We’re gonna pretend like that was talent??
  15. I get what you’re saying, but those 29 shots are over 12+ games. He averages about 2 FG attempts per game. If he had been getting minutes he arguably would have developed more confidence and shot selection. Instead we watched MK and PS underperform as “shooters” all season. Tamar deserved some run in the 2nd half today. That shot he hit was a confidence booster and he has a higher ceiling than MK who finished 2-11 from the field. Woody has done some things very well, but riding the hot hands and recognizing momentum in lieu of playing the comfortable, senior lineup hasn’t been one of them.
  16. Good run. We controlled that game from start to finish really. Lucky bank shot. Not much you can do. Biggest moment of the game I’m disappointed in is that long rebound Kopp got with 2:30 left and IU up three. He hoists it. Gotta pull that out. You’re a senior. You’re 2-11 from the field. Ugh. Shoulda coulda.
  17. Gotta guard the three point line. That’s the only way they get this back. Love to see Phin come in to help break this press. Let’s go boys. Close.
  18. Breaking news: Iowa wants to shoot threes. Might want to make them drive the ball.
  19. Respectfully disagree. MK and PS stand around the perimeter on offense so stripes have nothing to call. Iowa hunts threes and neither MK/PS can stay with their man around screens, so refs make no difference on that end either. They are a net negative to this team right now
  20. Won’t happen. But IF we start X/RP/TG/Race/TJD to start the second half > we build a 10-12 point lead by the under 16 TO. If we start our starting five > IU will be down 2-3 pts at the first TO.
