IU WBB vs Michigan St, 12/29, 3 pm BTN+
JerryYeagley23 replied to mamasa's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
Not our best half of basketball. They are pressing and it took us a quarter and a half to figure out how to break it. Turnovers are uncharacteristically high due a lot to the pressure. They play a dribble drive offense just trying to get in the lane and dish and we need to make an adjustment at halftime to help down earlier when they get into the lane. We miss Grace a lot in a game like this. Good experience for the girls come tourney time to play against this style team. The road in the big ten is always tough. Gotta close this one strong, that’s what a top 4 team would do. -

Daniel Munie selected 10th overall by the San Jose Quakes. Herb Endeley selected 24th overall by FC Dallas. Ryan Wittenbrink selected 53rd by FC Dallas Good luck to the boys. -
Hearing fifth metatarsal, Jones fracture? (I’m not medical, so don’t know what that means)

Good “get outta town game” for the ladies. It was never in doubt, but not the blowout it normally would be if the break weren’t coming. Couple notes: • Grace = no crutches, no boot, no bulky knee brace on the bench. Walking with no noticeable limp. Think we see her before end of January if no setbacks. • Bargesser is impressive in flashes. She has a little Patberger/Cardano-Hilary in her game. Plays tough D, can get in the lane. If she develops a consistent three ball, she’s gonna be fantastic. Remember she missed all of last year after tearing up her knee. She’ll continue to get better. • Garzon is no ordinary freshman. She looks like the freshman that UCONN rolls out there every year and somebody we wouldn’t have been able to recruit in years past. Great recruiting job by the staff to get her in candy stripes. •Moren is an excellent, excellent coach. She is doing for the women’s program, everything the fan base is clamoring for on the men’s side. She has a team built on defense first, that is long and athletic at every position. She hit the portal and brought in slam dunks in places of need in Scalia and Parrish. She recruits internationally with Garzon and sendvik. She lost three All Big-ten athletes last year from a top 10 team, and is arguably better this year because of player development (Chloe Moore-McNeil), portal and recruiting. Her teams play smart, clean basketball. She’s got her finger on the pulse of NIL (wearing a Grace Berger sweatshirt to “put some coin in her pocket while she’s out”) and uses it correctly (Sydney Parrish’s recruitment to IU, NIL was a huge selling point). Moren gives insightful postgame interviews about actual tactics and game plans instead of boiler plate answers because she understands the education level of our basketball fan base. Can’t say enough good things about her and this program. I genuinely hope to convert some more of the frustrated men’s fans this season because the basketball program they’re looking to get behind is here, it’s just of the other gender.

Daniel Munie, Ryan Wittenbrink and Herb Endeley have declared for the MLS Superdraft and will forgoing their COVID year of eligibility and leaving IU. Goumbale will use his COVID year and come back. Will be some talented individuals to replace, but we’re IU and we will reload. Hoping Todd hits the transfer portal and finds a big forward. -
This game is the equivalent of when team USA played the neighborhood kids in Mighty Ducks 2 and got introduced to the knuckle puck. Put a top 10 team in a high school gym full of New Jersey’s finest 1500 fans against a team pulled off Rucker court. That first half is what you get. (all due respect to the knuckle puck)

Found a replay of the game and just finished watching. Couple thoughts: • Like to see Scalia tighten it up a bit on shot selection; She’s a shooter, and has a great stroke, but she took 28 shots in the two game Vegas games (made 9/28); that’s a lot of shots on a team with this many weapons. At Minny, she was option 1A and 1B a lot of times, but as a team we shoot over 50% from the field and have an efficiency machine in Mackenzie Holmes down low (22/25 FGs I’m last two games). An adjustment needed from her as we work towards being elite and chasing a final four. • Really need to get Kiandra Browne healthy; Mack ran out of gas last year the last three games of conference play and if we don’t get some other bigs to spell her this year could be the same. Coach Moren doesn’t seem to have much faith in Alyssa Geary which I don’t quite understand because she’s been almost a 10p/5r player the last three years and is 6’4”. Hoping Kiandra is nearing a return because we need some depth to stay fresh. • We will need Grace back to settle the offense and provide leadership. Nothing official, but did hear it’s gonna keep her out a bit but isn’t season ending which would be a positive.
