So what you're telling me here is that he literally had no other choice but to enroll in sham classes? Things must have really changed a lot in the 3 year difference between the time he and I went to college. I distinctly remember being able to choose my own major. He must've been absolutely distraught when he found out he was being forced into a program where he didn't have to go to class or do any homework for those passing grades. Lord knows he shouldn't have to bear any semblance of personal responsibility. -

"I thought it was a part of the college experience, just like watching it on a movie from 'He Got Game' or 'Blue Chips,'" McCants said. "... when you get to college, you don't go to class, you don't do nothing, you just show up and play. That's exactly how it was, you know, and I think that was the tradition of college basketball, or college, period, any sport. You're not there to get an education, though they tell you that." Yup, sounds like those advisers really pulled the wool over his eyes... -

I never said I wouldn’t, I asked when it became their responsibility. But in my case, my parents wouldn’t accept my money. I make more at 30 than my dad was making when he retired and I’ve offered. His response: “You don’t take care of us, we take care of you.” And indentured servitude? Really? I don’t think you understand how indentured servitude works. These kids aren’t forced to go to college, and they aren’t forced to stay after they sign their contract. They could go to the G league. They could play overseas. Nobody is forcing them to do anything. Give me a break. -

Did I miss something? I didn't realize their diplomas were revised to add an asterisk next to their major... And taken advantage of? You think those players didn't know exactly what was going on? I'm sure most of them weren't brain surgeons but i'm pretty sure they realized something was up when they saw the other 40K students actually going to class and working. Not to mention the fact that more than one flat out admitted knowledge of the fact that they were being guided into BS courses. To address the previous post, if these players don't value the free education they are receiving and don't use it to further themselves professionally, that's their problem. I know I sure as heck would've appreciated it, but I'm 5'8" and not particularly athletic so nobody was willing to pay my way because I could play a game. These players receive a free education and hundreds of thousands (or sometimes millions) more over a lifetime because they could play basketball. It may not be immediate, but it pays in the long run. And it pays a lot more than a high school education alone would have. And if a player is one-and-done, then yes, they are being compensated by NBA teams. The one year in college gave them a platform to promote themselves and earn a contract that's worth more money than most people will see in a lifetime. Finally, you've had a few posts where you talk about them supporting their families. Maybe my parents were old-school in the way they raised me, but when did it become the kid's responsibility to support their parents financially? -
(2019) SG Armaan Franklin to IU

I’m not sure I’d go as far as to say he has no handles. In the IN/KY all star game he had the ball at the top of the key, did a hard right hand dribble to the free throw line, went behind the back, and straight back into a crossover before finishing the drive (missed the layup though). And the entire sequence was fluid to the point it looked effortless and left his defender looking like his feet were stuck in cement. He’s no PG by any means but you can’t pull that move off effectively without some ball handling skills. -

Ahh you were missing out. We had the biggest rooms, AC, a partition in the middle that separated the room into two singles, and co-ed floors. I also lived on the 11th floor facing campus so the view was pretty nice. The only downside was the mile-long trek to class, but I didn’t go very often my freshman year so it didn’t bother me much lol -

Desperately needed. I lucked out in terms of living quarters (Eigenmann in 06), but the location sucked. Our rooms were like suites compared to most of the hot boxes in the central neighborhood. -

It’s pretty dumpy. It’s kind of like Butler in terms of the surrounding area, but Butler’s actual campus is decent. -

In my own defense, I took shots at more than their location. Not sure where the jealousy stuff is coming from. I’m pretty used to other schools being in contact with our recruits... I was simply saying I don’t understand the allure of Memphis... -

I technically live in south Delray off Linton just east of 95. I usually just say Boca because most people haven’t heard of Delray and I’m in Boca’s school district. -

I wonder if the NCAA lets Memphis include bulletproof vests as part of the scholarship... -

I still don’t understand the sudden Memphis draw. What’s the allure of moving to one of the worst cities in America to play for an unproven coach at a school with Memphis’ reputation? I realize he was an NBA player but these kids weren’t even alive when Penny Hardaway was relevant. I’m 30 and barely remember his good years. -

Really hope he stays put. One of the things I really like about Indiana athletics is the lack of parochial schools and the resulting atmosphere that surrounds high school basketball. How many states do you get public school matchups like we get most years. -

That kind of emphasizes my point though. Depth perception is a big factor in shooting accurately and Hulls’ shooting arm never broke his line of sight. I’m not saying he can’t be a decent shooter with his form, but I think he has the platform to be a consistently high percentage shooter if he makes a couple minor adjustments. Right now, I’d compare him to Damezi in terms of shooting ability. Damezi has a good release and the ability to square his body and hit shots he shouldn’t hit, but he’s a streaky shooter who also has a tendency to shoot from right in front of his face. That said, Damezi has more to work on in terms of shot development than this kid at the moment. -

He does appear to have good overall form and a nice release, but it looks to me like he brings his shooting arm a little too far inside as he elevates. It’ll be interesting to see his game-to-game percentages because I’d put my money on him being a little streaky at this point. If he can push that arm out a tad without altering his form he’ll be able to maintain his line of sight and up those percentages. -

Green and Durham were actually the exact players I was thinking of when I said two of the 4 could play off the ball, so I can absolutely see two of the four being on the floor simultaneously. I don’t see us getting away with 3/4 very often though. That would be some serious small ball considering the tallest one is Durham at 6’4. -

Personally, I think it would be one big and one guard. If we land Carton (and I feel like we will), that puts us at 4 point guards. Durham and Green could be moved off the ball but would still have to contend for time with incoming (possibly) and existing players. I just don't see they PT being there for somebody. -

Basically in the novel there’s a rich side of town and a poor side of town and they have their own social circles. “That’s tuff” is just something the kids from the poor side of the town say. It means awesome or cool. -

At the time of his commitment, I really didn’t know much about him. I don’t live in Indiana anymore so it’s kind of hard for me to follow in-state recruiting like I used to. I was just happy to see we signed an Indiana kid, and I loved that we got him out of Lafayette. Once he signed I started following his senior season and I think we may have gotten a potential 1st team all B1G player. His style of play just strikes me as the kind of PG that anchors a team. -

True, and at the time it was sour grapes. In hindsight, I’d say they were right. Phinisee is coming off a 30/6/6 season playing 4A basketball in Indiana. Kid is definitely no slouch. His game doesn’t have the same level of flash as Garlands, but I think he has the ability to be every bit as effective as a PG; and probably even better at running the offense. When was the last time we saw a recruit attend multiple games after committing and say he was doing so because he wanted to know our style of play as well as possible from Day 1? -

What were Watfords comments? I’ve looked through a couple threads and can’t seem to find them.
