You aren't guaranteed anything in this business. It's hard to turn down a B1G job with no guarantee the IU job comes open, or that they ever call you. I think the fact that UM, OSU, and L'Ville were his options shows that he wanted to get back to the midwest. From what I've heard about him I think he takes IU's call. But he may feel that he owes UM and his players more than one year. Best realistic option though.

Woody is gone, the admin isn't gonna make the call today so I'm not wasting anymore time on it. In my opinion we should all be able to agree Dusty is number one. I've been doing laps for him on here for a year, you can check my posts about his record at FAU. I was told he was unproven, but I am glad Coach Cignetti has ended the debate once and for all. If you are a good coach, you are a good coach. If you are going to bring up Archie's record, you might as well save the characters and just say you don't know ball. Dusty is the energetic program leader that Pat Kelsey is with the X and O proficiency of Mark Pope. MAKE HIM SAY NO. He is the best option. Young, energetic, modern. He is not only being considered because he is "in the family" like Woodson, instead his connection to IU is maybe the only reason he would take a call from any other school. His buyout is incredibly low, but those conversations need to be backchannelled right now so he doesn’t take the raise that will be offered as soon as UM senses us sniffing around. My impression is that he would take the call. It’s a unique opportunity for IU and I hope they don’t screw it up and that the door isn't closed. Some of the other names here don’t really make sense Pearl isn't leaving, would be expensive and I don’t like him anyway, but if he takes the call, sure. I don’t want Beard because beating your gf is a no-go for me, but I can promise you that is a non-starter for the admin, so we should stop wasting time on him. FYI, the cops dropped the case because the fiancé declined to cooperate, but the police report is jarring enough (did she fake the bite marks?). It speaks poorly on many of you to carry water for this man as the role model for our players. Stevens isn't going to come but sure send a call out, fun to dream about though Oats wants to go midwest apparently, not my favorite coach and would be uber uber expensive but would no doubt be good Other options are: McCollum. I don’t want to hear about "unproven" anymore. If anyone compares someone to Archie I might melt down. If you can coach you can coach. There have been strong rumors that McC is an ******* and that stopped him from reaching D1 until now but if he wins who cares. Luke Murray: Hurley sucked without him, his offense is a dream, and Bill would come to our games! Obviously any asst. is a risk though. Shrewsberry/Shertz: TOUGH sell to the fanbase, I get it. But you have to understand that Shrews has built a roster without the portal, the old fashioned way and his best player missed half their games so far. I promise they will round into form. Probably not quite good enough for IU though. Same thing with Shertz. Great coach but probably not flashy enough in year one at SLU. Dusty checks literally every box. Get it done or regret that we didn't for the next 25 years.

At the absolute least the admin is going to take the time they have with the two away games. If both are bad losses, I would expect the admin to make some sort of announcement. Obviously, their preference is to let him finish the season, so they will watch these two games for something to hitch the wagon to.

Wow, this has gone off the rails. I think he should be let go, or a retirement accounced before the end of season. What I worry about is the environment at home games. These players don’t deserve to hear the fire mike woodson chants, they don’t deserve to hear the crowd clamor for Dusty, and I worry for their senior night. A guy like Goode who wanted to play here his whole life shouldn’t have to carry the weight of the shitty coach for the whole season. An interim allows the team to play freely without the shadow over them, and to be honest, I think without the shackles of Woody's system they would play better. OSU last year is the perfect example, they just needed a reset of the vibes around the program and they Diebler let them play freely. Let Kenya coach the team without the cloud for two months.

Have we heard that the admin is ready to move on? If so, do we have any information on Dusty's level of interest?

Hopefully this offseason everyone stops overthinking this BS and they make the obvious call to try and bring him home.
  7. Takeaways: Man I wanted Rice so bad and I'm feeling vindicated. So fast, great on D, and smooth from the midrange. He's an older, more measured, better on D version of JHS. And he's almost 22 with 3 years left. Unreal get. I think KC had an off night, but looked pesky on D and I think the shot will fall. He's a little more of a streaky scorer but there will be nights when he can't miss. In the HH scrimmage and now I noticed Reneau looking more fluid and athletic. Mgbako looked comfortable and got in passing lanes a ton, really using his length more. I think this is what Ballo will look like pretty much all season and I think that's a good thing. He's not a great scorer, he's a crushing screen setter and one of the best rebounders in CBB. Doing what he did tonight, even while not filling it up scoring does so much for the team. Cupps looks way more comfortable and we didn't even have Gallo or Tucker. To me, thats huge. We need to play 10 deep in the non-con, preserve our top guys and trust the second unit to help run up the score. If we learned anything from last year it's that we need to dump on inferior teams to help our metrics early in the season, and the depth I saw tonight gives me hope. Cupps Leal Tucker Goode and one of the bigs is should be good enough to run it up on a weak team.

Funny to see people mention guys like Sissoko. No one who has started so many B1G games is coming to fill this spot. My wishlist for the spot are twofold:1) Is he over 6'10, 2) does he have 5 fouls to give. There are plenty of these guys in the portal, but it's probably gonna be a guy that most of the ppl on this board have never heard of.

It looks like the staff expects a lot of the "backup" 5 minutes to be taken by Reneau. Ballo played about 26 mpg on Arizona, a team with top 15 tempo, I would expect at least that many minutes on a middle of the pack tempo team like IU. I think whoever they bring in won't be playing much come B1G season, we just need another body as injury/foul insurance. There are plenty in the portal I'm confident they can find one.

I know he's pre-med so that brings up an interesting point: does the med school even admit athletics transfers? I can't imagine trying to do both.

    Expectations for the 24-25 Season

Expectations in the B1G are hard to set with how unbalanced schedules are, the top couple of teams could just luck out with an easy schedule, plus there is added variance with the cross country travel they will be doing. I also think we should temper expectations for the Bahamas, we have a lot of newcomers and it may take some time to come together. Remember we did not play well in Maui in 2016 but pulled it together after and won the Big Ten. That being said, I think the minimal expectation should be a 6 seed in the NCAAT with all the talent we have.

Yeah in that case give me Goode. IU legacy/Indiana kid, played in the B1G, made more 3's than Anderson playing on a top ten Kenpom team, and is the same height but heavier than Anderson, in case we need him to play some 4.

Let's try not to comment about players' bar habits. I know they have heightened responsibilities over regular students but still if someone examined my habits junior and senior year they would have shipped my @$$ to rehab with how much time i was spending at Roy's lol Re: Conwell, Tyme seems to think its Xavier

It's gonna be interesting to see how much Ballo changes the defense. With Ware and TJD we had pretty mobile bigs, Arizona played almost exclusively drop coverage. I'm not sure if we have seen Woody embrace that, or if he will this year. Playing drop definitely works if you have a huge enough guy in the middle, Purdue, Creighton and Arizona all play it nearly 100% of the time, but it would be sort of ironic to play a defense designed to give up only long twos because of how inefficient they are and still shoot them at such a high rate on offense.

The way I see it, the fact that the staff is going after Essegian is a great sign because they expect to have increased guard minutes due to usage of 3 guard lineups. If they sign Humrichous, it would appear they are planning to always play two bigs.
