General Coach Candidate News

I know exactly what's gonna come out of the IU athletic department at 3 p.m. tomorrow: Even if we do "have our man," there's about a 0% chance any announcement comes until after the season -- whether it ends in the first round of the B1G tournament in Indy or at the Final Four in San Antonio. LOL. -

I obviously have no idea what goes on behind the scenes or whom Dolson is/was targeting, but other than some people here liking him -- I don't think Buzz ever was a serious candidate. And not because he lacks the coaching chops. More because he's a Texas boy, and I think is right where he wants to be. -
I would hope so. Hickory only used four players. LOL!

I live about 15 minutes from Norfolk State. And yes, Jones is a good coach. Not sure I'd potentially call him a Cig-type hire: He's done all his coaching at the low-major level -- which is why his conference winning % is so much higher than his overall % (.596 to .754). Cig had many years as a P5 assistant before taking a DII head job, then working his way up. Jones supposedly had interest in the past from the likes of Temple, Buffalo, Georgia Southern and reportedly even -- I don't think very seriously, however -- St. John's. I wonder sometimes if he saw what happened to his predecessor -- Anthony Evans. He orchestrated that great 15 vs. 2 upset of Mizzou way back when, then took a gig at Florida International, where he never had a winning record in five seasons. He's now at UMass in some capacity, but has never been a head coach again. I sometimes wonder if Jones is just happy where he is. He's from Queens, but maybe Norfolk is where he's decided to hang his hat for good. He's making a comfortable living (nearly $500K a year), and has turned NSU into probably the MEAC's top basketball program (league is a tad watered-down these days after defections). So he has a good chance to get to the NCAAs each year. And I think he's considered a good influence on young Black men (NSU is an HBCU), which is another aspect I think he enjoys about his current gig. -

UTEP and Western Kentucky are on the CBS Sports Network. Little Khristian is still playing for WKU. The difference between him now and then is staggering. Looked like a little kid at IU. All grown up now. Which I think is further evidence that leaving high school early was a huge mistake.
