Best of luck to Coach DeVries. I hope he raises a dormant program that's been begging for an awaken. The standard has never changed but the coaches have. Coaching matters.
-

I suppose. But both of those schools also have natty banners hanging, sorta, in the rafters within the last 10-15 years or so. We're in a viscous cycle of mediocrity.
-
I have a horrible feeling it's number 2. And if that's the case, it just means the IUBB isn't as coveted as I thought it was.
-
He tied for 1st once in the conference. That's not winning. That's tying. I just don't understand why we should be excited about this hire.
-
I've watched him coach a couple of times and I just think there were better coaches than him in the MVC. I'm not saying he won't succeed but we won't tolerate the same results we have been getting. Just my opinion. Like I said, I'll gladly eat crow.
-
I'll gladly eat crow if I'm wrong but we'll back here again in a few years doing a job search if it's DeVries.
-
If it's DeVries then the IUBB job isn't as coveted as we think it is. This guy has zero championship experience. Zero. That should be a criteria for this hire.
-
McCollum has an overall better resume in my opinion. Both can be good but someone is always better.
-
Drake's roster was empty when McCollum took over.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for?

IUFB has three of the five on schedule. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/who-are-the-big-tens-college-football-playoff-contenders-in-2025-surprise-team-joins-list-of-usual-suspects/

The staff spoke to IHSAA football coaches last week.
-
I get it. Spending money to see IUFB get curb stomped isn't fun. Those days are pretty much over with this coach. Coaching matters. He ain't losing. He just doesn't do that. He's been able to keep his staff as well. 8 wins should be the expectation with this coach. Coaching matters. I don't want to hijack this thread y'all. If you want to talk ball head over to the football section! Hopefully Dolson hires a coach with championship experience.

The most historic hire for the program and credit goes to Dolson and Whitten. That hire told all of us that IU was finally going to get serious with the football program. I'm telling myself it will go down as the hire that changed the fanbase to football first fans. I know that's pipe dream but I've been dreaming for that since the 80s. But more CFP appearances, Heisman candidates, First team All-Americans, first and second round NFL picks, conference championships, etc. etc. will definitely help. I'm kind of shocked I'm not seeing more traffic in the football section here. We're like in the middle of spring ball. And the team, on paper, is even better than last year's CFP team. Exciting times for IUFB 812FB folks!!!

Just for clarity, I pimped Coach Cig pretty early on during the discussions in the thread. He was a pipe dream at that point, because you know, the misery of being an IUFB faithful was a strong and deep darkness that warshed over us. Darker n' a black steer's tookus on a moonless prairie night. There was no bottom. For me with that hire, it was about finding an established coach that had program building success and would leave the program in good shape for the next hire. Someone that had experience of taking a losing program and turning it around quickly. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think IUFB would be playing in the CFP on year one, or ever for that matter. But man, I've completely changed on that kind of thinking. Us IUFB faithful should always be thinking CFP Natty. Always.

If he's got family in the 812 then yes, he probably would want the job.

For me it's about hiring a coach with championship experience. I personally think that should be a requirement for this hire. If IU can't land established D1 coaches with championship experience McCollum is my next choice. The more I learned about him the more I was sold on him. He's a unicorn in my opinion. I believe he'll be able to handle any job he takes. I just hope if he's coaching in the Big Ten it's in Bloomington because any other place we'll end up hating the guy.

Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it. I made the correction. -
He's going to end up at Iowa and we're going to hate this guy.
