  1. If Sam Story is right on twitter and IU cannot play Iowa next weekend it really does not matter if the Big Ten screwed us out of the Championship (they did) as we would of had to decline due to Covid which would of been interesting. Time to watch other games around us and see if things fall into place to get New Years 6 rather than Outback or Citrus. Would be great for Hoosiers is Mizzou beat Georgia, Wisconsin beat Iowa and UNC beats Miami.
  2. I am sure this was already done, but I hope IU is looking into whether anyone on the team was irresponsible to cause this Covid outbreak. This is an unpresented situation, but it would be a shame if we are kept out of New Years Six bowl because we are unable to play next week because of a Covid outbreak caused by carelessness. If anyone did anything wrong, no matter how good they are I would not let them play rest of season. I really hope this is just a case of increasing cases in the State and everyone did everything right and just caught it in course of life. If anyone or multiple people on team did anything to jeopardize IU's season to me they need to be made an example of for potentially torpedoing IU out of a New Year's Six Bowl and denying IU the end to the season they deserve.
  3. Here is the reality: For Archie to be here long term he has to develop some shooters. However, assuming we bring this effort every night this year we will be right in games. TJD is developing and we should have a good year in end I think. I worry in future years about Archie developing shooters and recruiting but his system of defense and toughness may finally be here at least to expect more consistent efforts every night which is progress.
  4. Can someone please explain to me why rules need to be changed other then incompetence by the Big Ten? First off when you made this rule you knew this could be a problem. If they had never put in such requirements no one would say anything. More importantly OSU is going to make the College Football Playoff whether they play for Big Ten Title or second place against Iowa. There is zero reason to change rule to accommodate OSU when they will ultimately get to the CFP whether they play in Title game or not. The Big Ten is just incompetent but we already knew that.
  5. Interesting. Going with the seniors which makes sense but only Glass is an elite player among those guys. Palazzolo is decent but lacks finishing skills at times and Warr is a backup. Like all these guys and agree with naming the upperclassmen but definitely not the best players outside of Glass.
  6. This is a tough one. On the one hand the fact we are angry about losing to a top 15 team shows how far program has come. On other hand this is the third time we have done this in last two years where we have lost a double digit lead in a big game against a top team. Last year it cost us second place in conference and most likely a top 4 seed in NCAA Tournament. This is an all time great IU team and a couple blown leads does not change that. Still these late game collapses this year will be the difference between being Big Ten Champions and knocking on the door of the Final Four or being 3rd or 4th in Big Ten and maybe making Sweet 16. Either one is great by program standards like last year but team needs to look in mirror and decide how great they want to be. The lack of composure in fourth quarter with missed easy layups needs to change. The face we can hold the program to these standards now is terrific and its time the team learns to close games against big time teams and take the final step to the top. It's the one area they still struggle every once in a while.
  7. That second timeout used is massive. Means if they miss the two and we get the onside kick its over.
  8. We have a 3* QB as third string? Not long ago we were lucky to have a 3* starter much less a backup. Props to Tom Allen on recruiting.
  9. Difference so far. Tuttle has made two perfect TD throws while Mertz has just missed on two. That's the separation right now.
  10. I kind of like having a QB (knock on wood) who can run and sneak the ball and not get hurt every time. Tuttle does not have quite the arm strength of Penix, but its more than good enough and his ability to run without being in danger makes up for some of that.
  11. I am a little salty about that as well but also think IU needs to fight very hard that the Big Ten does not change the rule. I had this issue once with a board I wanted to serve on and before the vote they agreed there would be two people in the position. Than all of the sudden I came in second and they decided they only wanted one person. I fought the injustice that had happened to me and eventually won the second spot despite being voted against big. I understand that the Big Ten yields considerable power, but I hope IU decides to raise the stink I did if they get wronged and Big Ten indeed tries to change the rule.
  12. Time, TV Still TBA. Just giving a hypothetical.
  13. I wish they could, but doubtful since TV sets the times for both events and Fox (televising Big Ten Championship) and FS1 (televising IU Butler) both have a lot of games going on that day. The only thing I could see changing and its a very small chance is if for some reason FS1 has both games and lets say ND and PU is 330pm on FS1 than maybe you could swap the two. If its back to back with PU ND at 2pm then you would rather have the earlier slot so at least IU Butler is over halfway through Big Ten Championship.
  14. I'd definitely be happy if such a problem occurred. I would put the IU Butler game on my computer and the IU NW Big Ten Championship on my TV. The fact that fans almost certainly will not be able to attend either helps, but still an unfortunate conflict nonetheless.
  15. Brilliant. So if IU makes the Big Ten Championship in Football it will be at the same time as the Butler game. I get no one can go to either and it is not IU's fault but this still really sucks and something I would have fought a bit harder against if I am IU.
  16. Good news: Stanford just had a bruising hard fought loss to UNC so hopefully they will be tired tomorrow and are the weaker talent of the two. IU should have plenty of energy after today's no show so hopefully the game between the Hoosiers and Cardinal sees better things.
  17. I know some have not liked what I have said about Penix, but I do have to give Tom Allen a ton of credit for the way he has upped recruiting! Last time we lost a star QB in 2014, it derailed our season and our backup was a 2* son of a soap opera star. Nothing against Zander Diamont but he was not a Big Ten QB. When Sudfeld injury happened, we had one other star in Tevin Coleman and teams loaded the box and we hardly won after. Now in 2020 we have a complete team with a really good defense and lots of really good players outside the QB and the backup is a 4* with high major offers. While our ceiling is lowered a bit, we should still be right there and only see minimal drop off instead of a whole season going up in smoke when star QB is lost. Props to Allen for elevating this program like he has!
  18. This beats our last two Maui openers where we suffered embarrassing losses to Wake and Notre Dame. Happy to see Race had best game of career and this was one of most dominant performance in Archie era against a Power 6 team to go with Marquette, FSU, Illinois, Iowa last 3 years. Best thing about this is we get to play good Power 6 teams the rest of Maui Tourney rather than Davidson and UNLV which is huge for NCAA resume. Will get Texas, Stanford Alabama or UNC rest of Maui which makes a huge difference in NET. Reason we ended up as 5 seed despite winning Big Ten in 2015 is we lost two better games in Maui and ended up playing St Johns and UNLV instead with Wake loss and moved us down 1-2 seed lines. This won't happen this time and we will get three pretty good teams that will prepare us for Big Ten and postseason tournaments. Awesome game to watch! Also 75% from line which is much better and needs to continue.
  19. Absolutely not. There are many players in other sports who have gotten hurt and had their career cut short or drastically altered through no fault of their own. I am thinking of Gordon Heyward in basketball for one who always seems to be out with something. Ken Griffey Jr. and Kerry Wood come to mind in baseball. These are just some examples who come to mind. Some people are more prone to injuries than others and get injured way to easily and Penix is one of them. I feel absolutely terrible for the guy but that is the reality we are dealing with.
  20. I think it more confirms Penix is not built genetically to play football. There is absolutely no way 99% of people would tear an ACL on a play like that. It's funny because my family member who is a doctor I mentioned yesterday deals with ACL's and while he could not provide a diagnosis, we discussed if it could be an ACL and he said it was possible but he has never seen a play like that tear someone's ACL as it almost always takes bad trauma to the knee for that to happen and that was certainly not the case there. Horrible news but team can handle this now and Penix needs to figure out what his career holds besides football because unfortunately his body will not let him play. Very sad.
  21. As I said I am done relying on Penix. If he is healthy great. If not we need to figure out if Tuttle is the guy and if not we have Donovan McCulley coming in next year. Unlike with Sudfeld injury, at least IU has multiple 4* QB's in fold and plenty of options so IU is not caught of guard this time and is a testament to the depth we have now. Penix is unfortunately not cut out to play football and gets hurt way to easily on hits that should not do damage. I feel terrible for the guy but the reality is his body betrays him like many other great players who have had careers ruined by injury. He has now torn his ACL twice in same spot which is really tough and makes me wonder if it is safe to play again. I thank him for his contribution to program and if he plays again I am really happy but not expecting it and it is best for him and his future to figure out what he wants to do besides football as his body will not allow that which is sad. Ceiling is lowered but as long as Tuttle can mange a game (and I have no reason to believe he cannot) we have a complete team now and not just a great QB and RB like we did with Sudfeld injury and should be very competitive without our starting QB. Testament to steps program has taken to address roster and depth issues.
  22. What makes no sense is even if this injury is season ending (quite possible) why is he bringing his future after this year in question? Even worse case scenario if he tore his ACL again he should be ready by next season as most ACL's heal in 6 to 9 months now. Why it brings his future at IU in question is beyond me? There is no injury outside a Torn Achilles (and I don't think it is that) that would anything beyond this season in any kind of jeopardy. Unless Penix decides to just quit football altogether (and I would not blame him if he did given his injury issues) there is literally nothing that should keep him from being on field next season and certainly by 2022. He can't go to NFL now, so his only chance is to come back one more time next year and try to stay healthy which has been an issue. To me there is no scenario that should call anything besides the rest of his 2020 season in question outside of quitting football which seems unlikely.
  23. I did say many times last year that Penix is a ticking time bomb with injuries and is made of glass. I certainly don't want it to happen and want him to be healthy but I am going based on the evidence we have right now and that is unfortunately that he cannot stay healthy. Very sad.
  24. I hate to be the "I told you so" guy but Penix gets hurt way to easily. That hit should not of hurt him at all, much less seriously. I am sitting with someone in my family who is a doctor and he said both that a hit like that should not cause any kind of injury much less a serious one but he is afraid based on the way he is walking that it is probably season ending. Taulia took a much harder hit in the knee on that last drive (should not of hurt him either, but certainly it had a better chance of hurting him then what happened to Penix). Speaking of Taulia he is not a tenth of what his brother is and until that Hail Mary is really inaccurate in the pocket and is only good in quick throws and unless he improves is not headed for same stardom. I actually feel OK assuming Tuttle has to replace Penix rest of year. We will see a drop off no doubt, but certainly have enough talent on D and at the skill positions if Tuttle can even be a game manager. The reality is I am glad the Donoven McCulley is coming next year as we can't rely on Penix anymore and at very least need to have a good backup, but more likely a plan for future as Penix is made of glass. Marlin Mack on Colts is same and its why they drafted Taylor this year and think of him as a bonus since Mack also takes hits that really should not injure him. Going forward we need to plan as if Penix is going to be injured and treat him as a bonus. I hate it but unfortunately guy has the tools but not the stamina for the next level.
  25. Again, Rose Bowl a national semi final game this yr so can't be that, but but could get New Years 6 at-large if we win out. If not citrus or outback.
