Galloway got 6th man minutes (tied with Hunter). Leal and Lander were close to each other in minutes as 8th/9th. IMO, Galloway is going to continue to get minutes just because of hustle. He's got to improve his 3 ball though. And as long as Leal can shoot, he'll get quality minutes.
-
I only view Brunk and Duncomb as true 5s. I know TJD is our 5 due to pure skill, but he'll never translate to an NBA 5. If he can find a 10-15 foot shot, I can see him having a chance in the league at 4. If Race is playing 5 for us for any duration other than spot duty, I don't like our chances (inside O or D). I think he's a 4 that needs to improve his shot.
-
Do you really see Race as the #2/backup 5 if Brunk was still here?
-
yup lol it would be nice to get some reverse action on Mangas
-
No reason not to want him back given he costs zero. I like seeing Fife toss himself under the bus, instead of taking what could have been a compliment.

IPFW to IU to IWU I think.

Joey Brunk to Indiana
Southside replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
just adding to his thread for folks not following the transfer thread -
I know things are a bit funky so I looked at the roster and scholarship chart https://www.insidethehall.com/indiana-scholarship-numbers/ https://iuhoosiers.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster In short, everyone has at least 2 years of eligibility.
-
So we have what, 2 scholarships available now? And zero Seniors?
-
IDK, but I hate to lose Brunk. I just don't see Race having the size to really play the in/5 for any duration. Sure, spot duty would be fine, but if TJD were to get hurt, or early foul trouble, we'd be hurtin' for certain. Race IMO needs to stick at 4 and develop a shot. Hoping we can pick up a more natural 5 in the portal, or at least a bigger/stretch 4/5.
-
Hope you guys are right on Race. Just looking at his FT and 3 %, he's got work to do. He's a hard worker, so I don't doubt he could take a step forward. I also think it's possible a change in coaching and scheme will give him (and most) a boost. I absolutely think Leal will be in the rotation at wing. Assuming Lander and Phin are manning the 1, Johnson and Parker are probably the starters at the wings, but Leal and Galloway will get plenty of time.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
Southside replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yup. Even the Indystar tossed his name out (the only name they used) today when talking about likely assistants. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2021/04/09/indiana-basketball-recruiting-hoosiers-mike-woodson-coaching-staff/7160914002/ -

He was also honored as the recipient of the team’s (Oregons') John Warren Award in 1999, which is given to the most inspirational player on the Oregon basketball team -

Yup. Really not worried about G play right now. If Lander can develop and hold down the one, Johnson (2) and Stewart (3) can take the wings. Assuming TJD is the in/5, that leaves only the 4 to solve for. If they use Johnson at 1, that may change things up. Hopefully both Lander and Phin will raise their games with new coaching.
-
yup. i really wish he would add a "yes, and we're not going to suck at free throws this season either" at some point.
-
Way too early to tell if we'll pick up anyone else in the portal. The top players don't have to be in a rush. Regardless, I'd say Woodson and team have had a very productive two weeks or however long it's been. Retained key players, retained commitments, hired assistants, picked up Johnson, etc.. And that's on top being a coach, still looking for a 3rd assistant, etc. To add, while I'd love to grab a stud from the portal, I'm very happy with the core we have. Parker, Johnson, and TJD are starters IMO. That leaves two spots open for internal competition or external upgrade. If you believe in Lander/Phin at the 1, then only one spot (plus depth). And I'd love to see Woodson take a late swing at 2021 guys still available like Patrick Baldwin Jr or even Chet Holmgren. Last I read, Duke was out for Baldwin, and he's kind of reopened things.

Poll: So how are you feeling now, and a few predictions
Southside replied to Southside's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yup. To me, it's two things. 1) the Indiana ties/history 2) the combo package of all the hires, and our best guys re-committing with a higher level of excitement it seams. I was optimistic about Archie, excited for a new start, but not really excited about Archie himself. I wasn't a huge fan of Crean, but I wasn't down on him like some were either. Archie just didn't seem like much of an upgrade, but I was willing to give it a chance. -
thank you. good read. Here are some quotes. Woodson on Race and TJD On D On Lander
-
I think that might be expecting too much. 20% 3pt, and 60% FT. I'd love to see him develop though if he can.
-
One has to think Woodson knows had to deal with personalities, so not really worried about that stuff. IMO, he does feel a need at the 4, especially if we're running a real 41 O, and TJD is the "in" or 5. Brooks would absolutely be an upgrade to Race at 4.
-
Maybe TJD is making some headway with his buddy.
-
With Parker and Johnson coming in, one would hope that we improve shooting in general, but also will have a lot of penetration opportunities if they are playing the wings. If Race is playing the 4, that would worry me a bit cause it seems like the opposing D could sag and clog the lanes though.
