I think we're fine with Logan so long as we can land either Jalen Washington, AJ Casey, or Shawn Phillips next cycle. I do want a 4/5 guy on a one or two year rental this season though.
-
Very happy we landed another guy in the 21 class. And a good one at that. 0.9788 composite NATL.56History SG13 FL10 Now give me a 4-5

Joey Brunk to Indiana

I didn't think he'd go far, but I wouldn't have guessed OSU. -
It'll be interesting to see two guys go against each other that have battled in practice.. Both with something to prove.

The cul de sac cook outs would be lit though.

I would take him, but wouldn't go after him hard either. I'm pretty happy right now with 1-3. Hoping we are looking for either a 4 or 5. I'd take a pure shooter too.
-
This will be his 3rd team right lol.
-
Sounds like a guy you tell never to step inside the line lol. yup, super duper weird.
-
Last I saw he was testing the NBA waters. Kid looks to be keeping all his options open.

that's a nice list

Like I said earlier, I think XJ can handle the point if Phin or Lander can't step up. the problem is though, if XJ is at point, we'll have a newbie at one of the wings. XJ played pretty good as a 2 his freshman year. His numbers went a bit down when he moved to point. His assist rate is nice though. I just think Lander and Phin are options 1 and 2 and point (in either order). And sounds like the coaches want to make it work with Phin. And you have to think they talked Lander up too given his return. XJ will be a good wing that can also run the ball if needed. I do think Woodson wants 2 guys with a good handle on the floor at the same time. And I think having one of Lander/Phin + XJ gives them strong penetration ability. Doesn't matter to me if that's to the rim, or dishing, or shooting. It's just nice to have 2 guys that run the ball and not being limited to one guy. It would open up the 41 nicely IMO. It'll be interesting, and I can see several possibilities. My gut at this time says Phin/Lander+XJ+Stewart+Race+TJD.

I'm just hoping Phin or Lander steps up at the point. I don't see either playing much wing though. I think Johnson will be a good wing that can also handle the ball if needed, and Stewart as a good wing with size (and also a decent handle). Yup, Race and Hunter at the 4. Also hoping Leal and Galloway develop too at the wing. Both have decent size but are different players. Love Galloway's effort, but he sorta looks out of control at times lol. Both should get good minutes. Really really hope Leal turns into a sniper.
-
I agree on position-less ball, but only to an extent. I think the 2 and 3 will be sorta interchangeable. I think the 5 will still be pretty separate/distinct in the 41. We have 3 guys IMO that can run the point, but only one of those are really wing candidates. I don't really know what to expect from the 4 though.
-
I think with both Johnson and Stewart, either Phin or Lander will be in a pretty good position. I really like the thought of both penetrating with good wing options. It'll open up TJD as well. Just need a good 4 option IMO.
-
My depth chart Point - Phin or Lander / Johnson Wing1 - Johnson/Galloway Wing2 - Stewart/Leal 4 - Thompson / Hunter / Geronimo 5 - TJD / Thompson Pretty confident in 3 of the guys starting (TJD, Johnson, Stewart). 1 and 4 are wildcards. I could even see Johnson taking the point if neither Phin or Lander step up (assumes Galloway or Leal really makes a jump too).

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
Southside replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If you're not optimistic with Woodson, Matta, Fife, Hunter, and Rosemond, you're expectations might be a little high. Won't know until we play, but there's a lot of "good" that comes along with those 5 names. -
There are going to be times (TJD foul trouble, TJD injury, playing big teams) when Race playing the 5 will be an absolute weakness. That's just the practical truth. Then from a player development perspective (playing a guy in the position that best suits their size, not to mention fits their potential NBA aspirations) it would have been better, especially for TJD if Woodson wanted him to play more 4. TJD stands no chance at playing the 5 at the next level, but could have a chance at 4 if he develops a shot (which he won't near as much if he's at the 5 all the time). Having Brunk and TJD play bad together in Archie's O, has zero bearing on what they might look like, or develop into in Woodson's O.
-
Well, we had smalls playing 5 this year, didn't play tackle, and couldn't shoot. And couldn't even make the tournament lol.
-
Well, one could say TJD played 34mpg because Brunk wasn't available. The year prior, TJD was playing 30 and JB was playing 20. Honestly this has little to do with Race, except I don't see him as an effective 5 when TJD is out. He's like 225LBs. Ideally, I like the split 2 years ago. If Brunk and TJD were clogging the lane together, it just means that Archie didn't know WTF he was doing lol. Either that, or one of the two weren't listening. In Woodson's 41, if Brunk was playing off ball 5, I think TJD could be very effective at the 4 (Woodson wants TJD to work on his shot, so does TJD). At the end of the day, I'd rather TJD be the floater between 4 and 5, and Race at 4, and Brunk at 5. I think it simply gives you more options, and allows your best best player to flex. I really don't care about using a 7ft guy. Brunk was 6-11 anyway lol. But it's less about using a 6-11 guy at 5, and more about "not" using a 6-8/225lb guy at 5. I really don't care about size, I just want to win. But IMO Archie has done a disservice to TJD's potential NBA career due to the way he's been used.
