  1. Head coach Tim Beckham has been fired on allegations of player mistreatment.
  2. Since the thread popped back up anyway, I missed this response before.   My post that you quoted was more the point of, if the NCAA makes the decision, they can affect 460,000 kids. In order to affect that many kids for colleges, you have to have 12 IUs all agree on the same piece of required curriculum. One is more politically feasible than the other.
  3. I think the general idea in the thread is that potentially losing 3 starters and so far replacing them with two 8th men is disconcerting. Front loading your class to have the players who likely would still be on the board in a few months is disconcerting. Heck, the fact that Crean has given us zero indication he is capable of keeping a player around for more than 2 years and continues to take on projects is disconcerting.   The way recruitment seems to go lately, I would not be at all surprised if Newkirk never set foot on the court and was creaned when in 2017 Crean realizes he doesn't actually have any scholarships.
  4. Why is that the choice? Isn't it a false dichotomy?   Can I have a 30-50 out of HS ranked kid, who is academically there & shows good moral standings?
  5. We won't without Creaning right? Maybe Bryant?
  6. I thought we just signed our PG of the future.
  7. This is the closest I've ever seen Crean come to a red shirting player.
  8. I know, but that's the difference of hundreds of governing bodies making a decision and one governing body doing it.
  9. No argument here. Just don't know who could enforce that. The ncaa could do it for student athletes.
  10. I would love to see student athletes generally be forced to take a class like that in school. Sure, 99% won't need it as bad, but it's great for everyone to know and could save some of them.
  11. And can seriously commit due to their bandwagon. I'm a down and dirty 49ers fan (even 03-10) because they were the awesome team when I was a kid. They've received thousands of my dollars over the years now because they won at the right time. Heck, even Indiana lost the Maryland at just the right time for me to stick it to my family (all UMD alums) by choosing IU over UMD (my final two school choices). It's all about timing and right now, our time was 13 years ago at best, 30 at worst.
  12. You really hit the nail on the head about my uncertainty here. Crean treats his team like it was full of 5-stars who will only be there one year. So, how can I get excited about a player who might be really good as a junior if I can't reasonably expect any player to see their junior year?
  13. I don't understand why the order wouldn't make a difference.   The kid isn't just committing to the school or even to a coach, he's committing to a team. And next year, people expect just under 50% of that team to be this recruiting class. So, when you're on the trail you have to sell the whole team. You think Bryant would be coming here if we didn't have Yogi and Troy on the court? A strong core helps you sell the class. Then you're telling the next recruit "Picture it, you and Harry Giles coming through that tunnel. I've already got Harry, now I just need you" instead of "Well, so if you come then I definitely have like, 1 5-star guy for next year"
  14. Not to be pedantic, but hitting a single in baseball has minimal statistic affect on the next batter's likelihood to hit a double. Building a team is pretty dependent on kids knowing who they'll be playing with.
  15. Just so long as looks are all that counts.
  16. How are his opponents? I mean, Max had great range until he played in college.
  17. No, you can wait until after class.
  18. I would consider 3-star a ranking. I would also consider transfers to be different. It's the difference between hiring someone without experience based on their transcript and hiring someone based on their tangible work product from a few years experience. And I'm not ragging on the kid. I hope he does great. Just putting it into perspective and looking for some points of comparison. It's not even a dig on Crean. Some coaches are big developers (Bo Ryan is the prime example) while some excel at managing talent (can't say Coach Cal isn't amazing at this). Most are somewhere in between. Hard facts about what has happened in the past helps fans evaluate where their coach is on the spectrum.
  19. Yeah, but if he went to IUPUI and didn't do much of anything you'd never hear about him again. Anyone done the legwork to figure out how many successful unranked players Crean has had?
  20. Yeah, I mean, Zeller was a 5-star, Yogi was a 5-star, Tim Priller was a no star.   See, like totally random!
  21. Living here in Oregon, I had the opportunity to meet Marcius Mariota a few times. You know what he said to me when I showed up in my IU gear? "If only I hadn't been born in Hawaii instead of Indiana, I truly could have been someone."
  22. Are we really doing this "Indiana kids are the best why do we recruit other places" crap for football now too? You know why Indiana kids aren't coming to play football for IU? Because they had an opportunity to watch the team sometime in the last 18 years and were considering having a winning season for their freshman years.
  23. Is that true? Fashion is stupid.   I mean, I wear high socks everyday because I'm old and that's how you wear dress socks.
  24. You don't think it's the pulled up white socks?
  25. Boo Terry, hooray anyone who picks some up for us out-of-towers!
