Michigan State was in Keion Brooks’ final four. I wonder if Fife was the lead assistant on him? -
Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Death, taxes, and @Chris007 scoops. -
This doofus doesn’t even realize he’s undermining his own argument. He clowned the Woodson hire. North Carolina is a better job than IU, and yet they hired someone with a worse resume than IU. Mike Woodson was a head coach in the NBA for nine seasons. Hubert Davis, not so much. This is what happens when you give someone in mom jeans an audience.

I'm still not a fan due to how the fanbase was characterized during his recruitment, but of course you can't turn him down if you're IU and he wants to come. It'd be silly to tell him thanks but no thanks. With some of the other options off the board I'm cool with bringing him on if it's a real possibility.

And during conference play at Pitt he averaged 11 ppg and shot 42.5% from 3. Nothing is guaranteed, but a guy who previously shot the three very well at the P5 level is a much safer bet than a guy like Fitzner.
-
From what I remember of Fitzner, he got a lot of good looks at IU. He just couldn’t hit them. Archie could’ve played a role in that but he also made a big leap in terms of the competition he faced. It’s big jump from the WCC to the Big Ten. Some guys can handle it but other guys can’t. And some of it has to do with his volume. Take four of his misses over a 31 game season and turn them into makes and he goes from a 31% shooter to a 38% shooter.
-
It is when you’re looking at someone’s percentage and trying to figure out if their shooting will carry. When you’re only taking 3 a game, a few misses or makes will have a huge impact on your percentage. Phinisee took 3.6 threes a game this past year and not many people would consider him a high volume three point shooter. Fitzner’a last year at Saint Mary’s he took 1.8 a game. In total during his three years there he averaged 2.9 a game. And he was taking almost all catch and shoot threes versus taking a lot of shots off the dribble like Stewart. A guy shooting 35% on 8.2 threes a game, playing the way Stewart did his last year in college, is quite likely a better shooter than a spot up shooter like Fitzgerald shooting 40% on 3 attempts a game.
-
With Fitzner, he was a low volume three point shooter in a pretty weak conference. And he wasn’t the kind of guy who was out creating his own shots. Stewart shot 43% from 3 on over 6 attempts per game as a freshman in the ACC l. That’s not to say he’s a sure thing, or that he’ll replicate what he did at Pitt, but I’m honestly not worried at all about him being a Fitzner-type flop.

Jordan might come back? It had sounded like he was good as gone from the comments his parents had made. Hope he does decide to stick around, though.

It's a beautiful day to wake up and read Chris007 posts, lol

With Swider and the Furman kid no longer options, are we going after any other stretch 4s?

Put IU in the WCC this season and where do they finish? 2nd? 3rd? And we were one of the worst teams in the B1G this year. Gonzaga would probably be at the top of the P5 conferences this year, but they wouldn’t have went undefeated. They’d have to consistently go against teams like Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan, Purdue, Iowa, Wisconsin in the Big Ten, and they’d have to go on the road against them. Same if they were in the ACC, SEC, or Big 12. They can have off nights and still win pretty easily in the WCC. Not so much in a P5 conference.
-
No one is saying their championship isn’t legit. They’re a very good team. But they play in a terrible conference, which artificially raises their seed each year. They stack their record with easy conference wins. Why haven’t they gone the Butler route and joined a better conference? Do you think they’d go undefeated playing in a P5 conference instead of getting to play Pepperdine, University of the Pacific, Portland, San Diego, etc.? Because I don’t. Call it sour grapes or what have you, but their undefeated season will have an * in my mind due to their weak conference and Covid. They got to play against bad teams for most of the year in empty arenas. That’s far different from what IU did in 1976.
-
Ugh, I hate Gonzaga. They wouldn’t go undefeated in a real conference.
-
I still just have a bad taste in my mouth from the Brooks recruitment. I didn’t like the way the IU fan base was characterized during it. And he’s not a good enough player two years later for me to forget about that. He had a chance to come to IU and he chose not to take it.
-
What are you basing Brooks being a “great talent” on? Because it’s definitely not his college performance. He didn’t start on a 9-16 Kentucky team. His high school ranking doesn’t matter anymore. What matters is what he’s done in college. And his college performance has been underwhelming. I’d rather get the stretch 4 from Furman.
-
3 and D without the 3 if we’re being real.. he shoots 23% from 3. Honestly, if he hadn’t been a 5 star recruit we had recruited back in the day, would any of us want him? He averaged 10 ppg and shot 21% from 3 on a really bad Kentucky team last year. The year before that he averaged 4.5 ppg. Maybe he’s better than his numbers indicate at this level, but idk. He didn’t want us two years ago. He opted for big bad Kentucky because IU fans were big meanies on social media. I think we can get better players than him that fit our system.

CBB: Roy Williams Retires from UNC
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don’t pay attention to those sports honestly so I don’t know, but maybe it has to do with scholarships? I know football and basketball players all get full scholarships but other sports have to divide scholarships amongst their players. I’m just spitballing, though. -

Lol. They already have the ability to transfer. No one is forcing a player to stay at a school they don’t want to be at. But if you want to back out of the commitment you made then you’re going to have to sit out a year before you can play again. No one has the ‘right’ to play college basketball. And if you want to play immediately then you can go to a D2 school and make that happen. -
Woody’s X’s and O’s dont worry me. You don’t last 20+ years in the NBA if you don’t know the game. The only thing that worries me about him is recruiting. The early results on that front have been superb. He kept Coach Hunter. He kept Parker Stewart. He kept Duncomb and Gunn. And now he’s kept TJD, who admitted himself that he was gone when Archie got fired

I really really hope we land Johnson. I want a team full of guys who come out and play angry.
