Final comment on Xavier Booker's weekend from Trevor Andershock - Overall, Xavier Booker made great strides this weekend. He was fantastic against the Illinois Wolves and battled a big, tough All-Ohio Red team. Today, he let off the gas a bit. He was more engaged in the second half and made a few great plays as he racked up points at the basket and free throw line. The next step for the high-potential prospect is playing with a competitive edge in each game. Over the last two years, he has improved in this area but as today showed, Booker is still a work-in-progress.

Mindless ramblings on a rainy Sunday afternoon waiting for Masters coverage to start. By all accounts, Galloway, Geronimo and Leal were hard workers yet all struggled mightily. Were they thrown into the fire too quickly? Were they that poorly coached/developed by Archie -- keeping in mind Roberts and Hunter were assistant coaches? Lander was clearly not ready to make the jump he did so I'll give him a pass for the time being. Galloway, Leal and Phinisee never entered the portal so unless blatantly axed by Woody, they were coming back. Everyone else that entered the portal Woody clearly busted his butt to get them to stay and they all did sans Armaan (I'm ignoring Durham). This is a group that was an absolute disappointment last year and we have no idea what, if any, positives Johnson and Stewart will bring when they toss the ball up next fall. And we don't yet know for certain that Brunk will return and even if he does we have no idea of how effective he will be. Does Woody really see the potential with this team and that by the time the season starts we'll see a far more competitive product on the floor? Did he not want to see a mass exodus because 1) be that much harder to fill out a '21-'22 roster as a new and inexperienced college head coach; 2) bad PR out of the gate if TJD, Lander and Armaan (all Indiana kids) left with an IU legend now as head coach. I'm in no way qualified to judge talent other than if it passes my eye test so to those of you that have the ability to judge talent, is the makeup of the roster as we know it today going to meet Woody's objectives and put a product on the court that will be a pleasure to watch?

Trevor Andershock on Xavier Booker's Saturday performance at the NY2LA event. Booker did not have the head-turning performance that he did Friday night, but the 6’10” center made important strides against high-level competition. It seems like he is getting used to battling tough opponents like James Okonkwo. He produced on the boards in traffic and out of his area. Booker displayed a quick, consistent release against hard close outs. The improvements that he displayed this weekend were extremely encouraging for his long-term development.

Eric Bossi on Cruz participating in the New York City Invitational: Zion Cruz who ranks among the top 25 players nationally in 2022 needed some time to settle in and didn't dominate the game. But, he showed some flashes. In particular, Cruz has good size at 6-foot-4 and when he takes one or two hard dribbles to a spot and explodes off the floor, he's got as good looking a pull-up jumper as there is in the junior class.

No doubt in my mind whatsoever that if Johnson isn't getting the job done to Woody's satisfaction he'll be on the bench. One of my biggest gripes with Archie was his talk about players was rarely ever backed up by coaching decisions. I'm confident that ain't gonna happen with Woody in control.

Riley Mulvey a 6'11" center from New York originally Iowa's lone recruit in its '22 class is sticking with the Hawkeyes but will re-class to '21.

Really good points on watching what the kids put on social media and how it can come back and bite them in the butt. Presentation would have been a lot better if Darryl hadn't talked so much and kept interrupting Rosemond.

Another NY2LA event this weekend being played at the Indiana Convention Center. Xavier Booker (Crispus Attucks) had 16 pts. including a couple of 3's in a George Hill All Indy win over Illinois Wolves. This from Trevor Andershock: The 16U game between GHAI and Illinois Wolves featured off-the-charts intensity from the tip. Xavier Booker’s first half was a glimpse at his incredible potential. He finished above the rim in the lane, popped for threes, beat defenders off the dribble, rebounded at a high level, and pushed the ball up the floor himself. His production at 6’10” was fantastic. Booker had a good second half with another three and a couple of finishes in the lane, but the first half was like seeing the future. He has a ton of upside and just needs to work towards making that performance a regular thing. Jalen Hooks had a good showing for GHAI as well. He opened the game with a three off the dribble. Hooks made his biggest impact in the second half. He had a few rim-rocking dunks as well as some blocks that might have dented the floor.
