I think it'll be a down year for the B1G. Michigan and Michigan State both lost big time talents to the NBA or graduation. Both will have to have some players make big jumps this offseason in order to compete at a high level. Even Ohio State will suffer a little bit without the intensity of Aaron Craft, as well as losing two wing scorers (they are bringing in some Freshmen who can really score, though). All three of these teams will ultimately finish in the top half of the league and make the tournament. Each of them has a good enough coach and enough talent to compete in the league.

Wisconsin will be the conference champion, I believe. They are returning everyone, except for Brust, with two NBA talents (one being the most versatile big man in recent history).

Nebraska and Iowa are interesting. Both are returning a good portion of their roster. It depends on how well they can each make jumps and find the consistency necessary. Iowa is coming off of a horrible end of season "collapse," while Nebraska is coming off of a blowout in the NCAA tournament. I think both will be successful, but it truly depends on role players stepping up their games and becoming difference makers.

Then there is Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, and Maryland. These four could pretty much finish in any order. They may even end up being better than both Nebraska and Iowa. Indiana is young and will need REALLY GOOD guard play to compete. Illinois lost a couple of starters, but are returning most of their guys and should have enough experience to have some big upsets. Minnesota is coming off of an NIT championship, and that usually means success. Losing one Hollins won't help, but they should be able to finish in the top half of the league this year. Maryland is a team that we don't know much about and won't know much about until the season gets underway. They are returning pretty much everyone who was key this year and adding a solid recruiting class. It could be interesting to see how successful they can be in their first season, but I wouldn't count them out. They could finish as high as #2, depending on how well they can transition.

There are teams such as Penn State, Northwestern, Purdue, and Rutgers that will be at the bottom again, but that doesn't mean they won't knock off some good teams. Each team has their strengths and will use that to their advantage against others. I have a feeling Rutgers will really struggle and finish last, but Purdue might be able to take that honor. It's all about consistency for the upper echelon teams.

A little birdie said that the Colonel was hanging out on this site.  I checked it out and immediately signed up.  It feels like I was away at summer camp and now I am home again.  Inside Indiana was brutal in my opinion and I was about done with it.

RUMOR ALERT:  the following message is just a rumor, you are not allowed to harass the deliverer of this rumor.  Nothing is factual so look away if you can't handle this.

Close sources around the Marion area is that James Blackmon Sr. is being heavily courted by the IU coaching staff.  If so, I have really mixed emotions with this.

NBA experience, NCAA experience, AAU experience, High School championship experience, coached McD all-stars in high school (Thomas, JBJ), His wife is a huge IU alum, already has relationships built with numerous recruits and their families...however, the X's and O's are a challenge.

There it is, run with that for a while.

Can't wait for this thread. Crean and Glass are a season away from an outright BIG title. If you think they're going to give a grand gesture of apology, you're barking up the wrong tree. I gave up on Crean ever taking responsibility a long time ago. All we can hope for is a few solid recruits and a season we can build on. It's out of our hands.

I think they need to find a person that can be to the state of Indiana what KJ was to the DMV area.
Recruit from the local area and sprinkle in a few kids from other areas. Not recruit kids from other areas and sprinkle in a few local kids. I am not just talking Indiana either. Places like Chicago and Ohio produce a lot of players that Indiana never seems to pursue aggressively.

I was thinking the same thing.  I just don't know how NBA coach to NCAA assistant translates.

He would be very marketable to recruits though.  University ties, NBA ties, development skills, championship experience.

Maybe if KJ leaves, he becomes an assistant?
Trust me, I don't want this, but I'm suggesting it because I know it'll come up at some point.

HoosierCoop reacted to Bk4life in Leaving for the NBA....the facts and the myths...
It's a little agonizing to see the myths about leaving for the NBA thrown around every time a great player seems to want to leave early......Myth 1....Oh, he better leave now while he is a top draft pick because its too risky...what if he stays and gets hurt???...You know how many times a player expected to go to the NBA and possibly be a top draft pick has been hurt after choosing to stay in college?....crickets....crickets......Hell, can you tell me the number of players who have career-ending injuries playing college basketball period??? Lets just put aside NBA prospects for a minute.....crickets...crickets...Yeah....there is about as much chance of it happening as there is the kid being struck by lightning...The fact that there is not ONE famous case on the tip of everyone's tongue when talking about this should tell you something...Myth 2...MONEY.....a millionaire is a millionaire...ok, maybe waiting puts someone in the single millions instead of the double figure millions....wow....shameful....the biggest risk is going to the NBA, being a bust and THEN having a career ending injury after not getting your degree and spending all those millions....THAT happens and there are documentaries about it,,,

My point is that the kids can wait....period.....there are no risks...These kids have more of a risk of alcohol poisoning, car accidents, suicide, medical issues outside of basketball ruining their careers than a game injury. Lets stop perpetuating the myth and then maybe more kids will get the picture and stick around.
