Optimism is great but ignoring realities and stats is silly and some aren’t open to that. in a world where everyone is essentially on a 1 year contract, JG > CJG there is no reason to groom 4 year projects anymore, it’s all a what can you do to help the team now mode and JG is and was more impactful than CJG and it wasn’t close. this was all in response to comments several posters made suggesting CJG was going to be an impact player next year, you added the part about starting. Maybe he will be an impact player but there is no basis for said statements other than blind optimism and hope.

But but but he has all the measurables that we want… I guess players on our roster that shoot 30% from 2 and 8% from 3 and can’t play defense are untouchable from criticism but players that hit the portal is open season quoting you but not directed at you. Just waiting for the glass half full crowd to come criticize you which won’t happen because Geronimo hit the portal and lost his protection

There are a few reasons Bates isn’t here and that has to do with his girlfriend, daughter, need to be closer to home and need for NIL cash to support his family.

I agree with all of that except for the bottom line part. A relative of the coaching staff told me he and Geronimo weren’t going to play because they did not understand defensive principles/fundamentals. Not saying his horrid shooting didn’t play a part but it was his defense that kept him from getting more mins. If he were in the portal everyone would be saying “HARD PASS”

He shot 8%, not much else to say about that other than he didn’t see a shot he didn’t like and that he had no business taking those

it’s helpful when people make crazy assertions that he is going to be a key contributor next season Gunn does not have all measurables we want. He didn’t play because he isn’t a good defender. When he did see the court he was a chucker and one of the worst percentages I can recall

I hope our team is not on the floor. glass half full, half empty, the current roster isn’t likely to compete for a conference championship, likely nowhere close and that is concerning. the transfer portal is supposed to be that equalizer, when a team loses as much as indiana, has open starting roles and nil money to give away… there is no reason for us to struggle. the blame on the conference and style etc is a joke - has anyone watched Tennessee play? They win 50-45 playing bully ball. Woodson loves IU but he needs to get more involved with recruits, both high school and transfers and not put all the work on his assistants

Also as someone that runs a sales team, I have sales people that are always excited to celebrate the conversation, the expressed interest and then I have some that celebrate the close. more just throwing that out about our staff as a conversation, I have no idea if they are the former or the later but as you likely agree, that later group is smaller yet accounts for the lions share of the success.

Might we have an issue in closing recruits? I see all these memes about Woody being a closer so that has become the prevailing “truth” but if we are getting recruits really interested and even saying yes but then they don’t come… that doesn’t fit that narrative if true. Them announcing, them signing, that’s the close, that’s the most important part. They need to have Tipton making his edits while the kid is sitting there and have it queued up to hit send before the kid walks out of there while the excitement is still real/fresh. once they leave and there is no announcement, the excitement leaves, they get cold feet, the grass starts looking greener etc
