I think today exposes Woodson even in a conference road win. It was a nice win but I believe the only reason we won is because Woodson was forced to do something he didn’t want to do. the players are good enough to win these games but tying their hands behind their backs each night makes it unnecessarily difficult.

As you alluded to we’re not UK, they have much higher standards. Look, I want him gone but there is nothing odd about waiting until the end of this season to extend him if he makes the tourney or better.

That’s not what you said though. You said they had no intent on him staying past 4 years.

I’m with you, I don’t think he should. I want him gone. People talk about optics of firing a coach after 3 years vs a full cycle of 4 but it looks even worse to fire a coach that made the tourney.

So they signed him a 6 year contract with no intent on him being here more than 4?

No doubt, if we don’t make it he will retire/get fired and he should. If he makes it… he will likely be retained.

I’m not going to argue what it will take as you are pretty dialed in there. What I will say is that it will be VERY difficult for IU to move on from Woodson if he makes the tourney. I was told that I was wrong/what I was told was wrong by others but I will only believe it when I see it. Firing a coach that made the tourney is rare. I think we make it in with 20-13 and we retain him

Indiana has set the market. They have paid Woodson more than any team in the world would pay him. They also set the market on players too. We paid more than any other school was willing to pay for our players. you have kids like Haralson and Mullins that took less to go elsewhere. We have ZERO players that were offered more by other teams but chose to come to IU anyways. cam you just answer this question honestly, do you think Woodson is doing a good job?

I think at a minimum she could get them to play with intensity unless we just have a team full of lazy players and outside of a few I don’t think that’s the case

I saw a comment in the fire Woodson thread that suggested if Moren was coaching the men’s team we would be top 15. Most would say Moren is one of the better coaches in the women’s game, is basketball universal enough that someone like Moren could step into the men’s game and succeed?

I agree, he was doomed to fail from jump because he either didn’t know what the real job entailed or wasn’t willing to really do it. I think he thought he could cut corners and still get to where he needed to go and that was never going to happen.

Do you think they will let him keep his whiskey lodge?

Of course, there is zero chance we end up getting a 4 seed this year. McDonald’s all-Americans, freshman of the year, all confernece players and not projected to make the tournament is bonkers.

Someone posted we were pre-season #15 so a projected 4 seed. As I and many said then, if this was Bill Self, kelvin Sampson, Izzo, Calipari, K etc with this roster, we would have been top 5. The voters and odds makers just didn’t have faith in Woodson and rightfully so

This is inline with my fear. I still don’t think we will make the tourney but it’s not out of the question given our talent to pull off a 11-9. people think it’s bad optics to fire a guy after 3 years and not give him a 4th, I think the optics for a prospective replacement are far worse to fire a coach that made the tournament.

Thank you for the response. To me, this isn’t a fact. Also the extreme examples are both unlikely. I fear that we somehow limp our way into the tourney and that is enough to be retained. I have been told that was his minimum requirement. And while I don’t think we will make the tourney, 64 teams do so it wouldn’t be out of the question and he could be back. It will be hard to fire him if we do, he doesn’t have to win a bigten nor National title to be retained - the bar is low

You keep saying its a fact that this is Woodson’s last year - have you shared where that is coming from and I missed it or just saying it? Are you saying that even if Woodson was to get top 3 in the bigten, make the tourney etc he would still be gone?

Yep, 4 years is directional and not a rule for a reason. When a coach has pissed off lifelong fans, been aloof and disinterested in building relationships with recruits and their coaches and families and isn’t winning… there is no need to extend the misery but yet they did. i do want to call out that those definitively saying we will move on from Woodson might in the end be right but they are not right right now. That has not been determined, it’s just heading in that direction. That direction can be changed if this team turns it around. The bar is LOW

Players are leaving and likely the coaching staff but anyone saying it is a forgone conclusion is speculating at best and at worst trying to chase Nostradamus status. not makIng the field of 64 when paying the players top5 money is criminal. #lockhimup

We hope so. Seems like Dolson will need others like Pam to back him to be able to make the change needed. if Buckner tries to block a move that should become public knowledge and should get all the criticism that comes his way
