Did you see the tweet. Do you know what it said and the context? The only fact is he tweeted something. We don’t know what was said or the context. You’re taking the “story” hook, line and sinker as fact. Tell me, what are Fife’s thoughts on NIL.
-
The knock on Woodson is his lack of knowedge regarding the college game. He even admits it in his press conferences. How does Wittman fill that gap? That's the problem. He needs someone he trusts and will listen to that knows the college game. Problem is he doesn't know anyone in the college game. It has become a glarring weakness.
-
I am sure there is blame to go all around. Nobody is perfect and they all make mistakes. But the real issue is how it was handled. The crap on Fife fest is a bad look. What assistant would touch this job with that crap going on?
-
No it's on the administration for hiring someone who allegedly is against the NIL. Now what is the truth? The tweets where deleted and nowhere can one find Dane's thoughts on the NIL in public. We have gone from a guy who deleted some ill advised tweets to telling a player he's greedy for looking at NIL money infront of his boss. It's just way over the top. It's insane.

That's revisionist history, maybe. Indy Star, April 5th, 2021 -- Mike Woodson Hires former Hosiers star Dane Fife as assitant. Everything is either a lie or true. Who the hell knows.
-
Problem is it’s completely false. IU started their NIL preparation the year prior. Look it up. It’s the biggest change in college sports in a decade. So it should have been discussed. To think otherwise is just making excuses for the administration. Go check out the Herald Times Article dated 10/4/2020. Dolson was all over it

You’re developing a new product and you don’t get a prospective coach’s thought on it. They know it’s coming and they don’t discuss the possibilities and the effect on recruiting with a guy who’s job it is to recruit. Come on man. You act like they put this together in two weeks. Just admit they screwed up the hire and move on. No reason to trash the guy.
-
Yeah, no. It was well know long before and IU seemed like it was planning to be a leader with it. It SHOULD definitely come up during an interview. If it didn’t, it’s a failure on the AD/HC.
-
Because the reasons cited are so over the top that if they are true one has to question his hire anyway. Think about it. You’re hiring a guy in the new NIL environment and you’re not aware of his opinions on NIL money. That would be hiring malpractice in my book.
-
Agreed. While DD is an obnoxious butt head, he’s not wrong here. It just feels like a smear campaign against Fife. Either that or this group of people have zero clue how to do due diligence and hire. Either way, it’s a bad look.
-
Because you just launched a guy for his failures at recruiting. Perfect fit. :)
-
His official title is Associate Athletic Director for Men’s Basketball Administration. Sounds like quite a basketball resource to me.
-
I know that. But how bad where they? And did he really choose that hill to die on? I am all for the players getting some money for their NIL, but every solution does create additional problems. It's not perfect.
-
Did anyone actually see the tweets Fife sent out regarding the NIL? I don't remember it even being an issue here?

I wouldn’t necessarily say “yes men” but clearly guys he agreed with. It seems strange to pay NBA buddies as consultants for a college team. I would think old seasoned college lifers would be better to pick their brains.
-
If Fire is such a putz, how does he get hired then? Either way it’s spun, it’s bad on IU. and for the record I could give a rats behind about fife. Don’t know the dude and was long gone during his playing days. Just not thrilled with the way things went down and I’m seeing some red flags thru my crimson colored glasses. Was hoping this dysfunction was behind us.
-
Oh. So we listen to him when he craps on fife? But not about Mata? Frankly, I don’t believe anything. But my eyes say Woodson didn’t listen much to the college guys.
-
But you're not hearing the whole story. That's the point. Context matters. Or Fife is a complete moron.
-
I would need those actions confirmed. Unless Fife is a complete idiot, I doubt it was actually that way.
-
Right, but I would hope your consultants have some experience in what they are consulting for. Woody has his NBA buddies who have the same issue as him -- lack experience in college. Mata on the other hand, a college lifer, is already on staff. Doesn't add up.
-
It is tough for IU to spin this. Either way, it's bad. Time will heal the wound, but geeze.
-
There's the insecurity woody felt with Fife on staff. And the root cause of the move -- everything is looked thru that lens. You can't have two chiefs -- I get it. However, whether written, stated, communicated, or not, the clear implication when Fife was hired was he was the "next guy" due to Woodson's age, etc. Was there anything from the AD to refute that? Or did they just let it fester because it seemed good, until now?

I am sure Dane will have his "side" at some point. I am one to think some of this is being embellished for dramatic purposes.
