He's coming back... Here we go again. I think we only have 2 scholarship guys return next year if that is the case. Sparks (used his one time free transfer), Newton (no high major is going to take a risk with his injury history). X, Leal, Walker, Ware all will be gone for sure. Galloway, Reneau, and Mgbako will see the writing on the wall and transfer (or go pro Mack) to winning cultures/programs, with lots of suitors. Cupps will be going back to Ohio (Cincy, Xavier, or Dayton). Banks and Gunn will transfer dur to lack of PT (whether justified or not). Liam will ask out of his LOI. We will be left with a roster of Newton, Sparks, and 5 walk-ons. But sure, the outlook for next year and beyond looks fantastic with Woody at the helm. @KathywithaC would you please pass this along to the other members on the BOTs and make sure Mr. Buckner sees it as well. In case anyone was viewing this with friendship/former IU player colored glasses on. Thanks!

Rabby has stated many times that this will be decided very quickly once the season is over. One way or another. I believe if Woodson is fired, the assistants can stay and do the day-to-day stuff until a new coach is announced and his staff is finalized.

That is how I understood it too. Which could be big. Rabby just posted saying he has heard from reliable and credible people on both sides of this. Some saying he's gone, others saying he will be back.

I couldn't really follow along here. Care to break it down any further? More basic terms for dummies like me lol Are you saying, by your reading, that Dolson could ultimately fire Woodson and do the buyout of $1 million a year on his own, with maybe just support from Whitten, because the buyout is under a certain amount? And in turn, force the BOT to approved a new HC (Pearl or another).

From my understanding, no he cannot. He is the president of the BOT but that doesn't give his vote more weight than others. His influence may lead to others voting a particular way, but his vote is still only 1 just like the rest of the board.

That is how I see it as well. However, QB is only 1 vote and there are 9 members on the board. Dolson/Whitten would have to swing or get 5 votes to their side. I also read that if they don't think they have the votes, Whitten won't recommend it to the board either. Like an episode of Succession or House of Cards, gotta hope Whitten/Dolson can whip some votes to their side, or at least a majority.

Yep, Buckner, Whitman, and Thomas pushed Woody to the front of the line.

Skipping recruiting days over the last 3 years. Recruits hearing from other HC more than Woodson. Needs major help from the portal to overhaul a roster. Choosing to pursue "ready-made" players instead of recruiting and developing HS kids Woodson publicly stating 2 point shots are good while having one of the worst 3 point rates 3 years in a row. "HS, AAU, and other coaches/trainers have heard very little from a certain HC over the course of 3 years, that's a fact" "some of those are both facts and patterns" "It's March of year 3. It took until Feb. for Woodson to go see Sisley and Mullins, two of the top in-state prospects and he didn't see Mullins in a game until the sectional semifinals.

Did a little research comparing who some believe to be the top 2 choices IF a change is made with the HC at IU. Cronin over his last 8 seasons (5 @ UCLA, 3 @ Cincy): Average rankings via Bart Torvik T-Rank (similar as a KenPom rating): 31 Adj. O Rating: 46 Adj. D Rating: 34 Pearl over his last 8 seasons at Auburn: Average rankings via Bart Torvik T-Rank: 33 Adj. O Rating: 31 Adj. D Rating: 57 For fun, IU over those same 8 seasons (Woody 3, Miller 4, Crean 1): Average rankings via Bart Torvik T-Rank: 52 Adj. O Rating: 70 Adj. D Rating: 50 I will say, I was one who argued against Cronin as the top option because of his offensive systems. Looks like he has been actually rather good on that side of the ball overall the last 8 seasons. If you take out this season, which has been an anomaly for him (he didn't have an O rating higher than 56), his O Rating jumps to 31. I am firmly in the camp that a change is almost necessary at this point to save us from the depths of college basketball that IUFB has been in for so long on their side, but I was exclusively only wanting Pearl. Now, give me Pearl or Cronin.

Does that happen, or something similar, if he can't swing enough votes to his side to fire him and hire Pearl?

The only reason I don't think he is using this as a raise, and I could be way wrong, but he just received a raise from Auburn two years ago and he truly loves Indiana as a state and credits much of his success to his early days at USI and being able to listen/learn from Coach Knight. I think this is his "dream school" and wants to be the one to bring it back to the mountain top.

This is a great thought, and one that I had not considered. If Dolson can get Pearl lined up verbally he can then go around to all those donors who might be on the fence and say "here is our guy, here is our upgrade, here is our way out. get on board or be one of the ones who get in the way of progress and bringing IU back to relevancy."

From someone who has had reliably connected information on many other things IU athletics related. Not going to get into specifics and other can choose whether they want to believe it or not. Just passing info along.

Recently heard that Dolson has had this topic (Woodson’s fate) on his front burner since January. All that has happened has only added fuel to it. Pearl and IU have interest in one another. Let’s see how the next 2 weeks play out and then see what Dolson and others decide.
