RB Ivory Winters to IU
lucel15 replied to ThompsonHoosier's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Entered transfer portal -
Winters has entered transfer portal. Unfortunate. Thought he would fight the depth....heck of an athlete can start somewhere else. Wish him nothing but the best.
-
From what I’ve heard....they are looking at different ways to use his speed and athletic ability. He was a good returner in Hs if I remember correctly, sees the field really well.
-
Scouts and whoever choose the watch list would beg to differ as all 3 were just put on the watch list for the senior bowl. Not saying that’s the end all be all they will be nfl players, but outside people looking in think all 3 upperclassmen are talented enough to get serious looks. After hearing coaches talk and see people who get to practices often.....hearing what they also say....starting 5 seem solid....then there’s about 4-5 guys behind them that have developed nicely....several young guys from last class and this class.... Littlejohn- Remington watch list. Cronk -Outland watch list.
-
When it comes to compliance office....or academic admission....ik that IU had 3 good grad transfers.....most schools in the big ten work with teams to get kids in...IU does not. 3 kids that could have tremendously helped with depth and let youth develop more especially on OL and DL.
-
Everyone gets what your saying....and again his hires in big sports come at questionable times, but with comments like this, this is why people don’t listen to your concerns....I’m not trying to attack you and ik you've referenced Mcrobbie several times in posts, but to administer sports you are referring to FG....he can only do so much to let’s say he’s even thought of going back off the 24 teams 1 school thing....let’s say hypothetically he and Tom Allen have tried to raise monies for football only facilities.....from people tied in to the board, president, everything....Mcrobbie can show his face at events but the matter of the fact is.....he’s doesn’t believe in investing in football to change their projectors for future seasons......in interviews he can fluff just like FG.....if I had to put $$ on it ,these two don’t speak much outside of board meetings, interviews, yearly ceremonies.....I think there’s an acknowledgment from football staff that it is a knock against them that their weight room is shared....and knowing ballou having trained under him for 4 years....he wants that weight room for his football players....that’s his oasis...his territory. Until the athletic department can do what they want under reasonable grounds, with their $$, and not seeing that money being funneled to academics...yes some schools do that like us, but when you look at % of $$ brought in from athletics then funneled to academics....our percentage is way higher compared to schools that make more $$. Yes I’m referencing what’s been talked about since last fall....and then this summer with Ostermans piece....until the athletics department doesn’t have to rely solely on big donations to do simple upgrades like locker rooms (latest thing for football and basketball)....and the athletics can use their money as they wish to keep up with the arms race in basketball and football...IU will continue to be behind until that day comes.... also to question the upgrades or attention to other sports is wild....there’s no reason to say screw other big sports....baseball and softball needed upgrades to their facilities....it was a laughing stock in big ten baseball....we would look like Rutgers high school baseball field....soccer which I feel like sells out every home match....is finally getting attention it needs...one of our most decorated programs is finally getting little $$ pushed towards some upgrades.....to me that’s crazy it took so long for them to get something a little better than what they have now. Wrestling and volleyball.....as a hs lay wrestling coach....Indiana hs wrestling is at the height of talent I’ve seen since mid 2000s. IU has lost out on top In state talent since around 2008-2010....the state of Indiana had I believe 8 kids competing for USA at junior worlds....several medaled....guess what...in that mix there’s about 20 state titles, 10 national junior titles and they all go to other big ten schools...ik you believe small sports don’t matter, but at Iowa....it’s a money maker, at osu its a money maker, penn state it’s a money maker, Michigan it’s a money maker, heck I believe it makes money at northwestern.....all those schools besides Iowa have taken talent out of the state....because we were so behind....heck Purdue capitalized when they updated back when I was in hs, all instate talent went there.....I’d say this year IU comes close to making money in wrestling, given what coach Escobedo is building there now that he has facilities....so until the Athletic department can use their monies they’ve earned, and not rely on rich donors....IU will still be behind.
-
Uh I’ll just chime in here Iowa and Michigan state have coaches who have been there forever and have built a foundation their way and they are not the Cleveland Browns like IU where a coach is gone after 2-3 years like people want with CTA. Also they probably have a a high backing from fans and their admin.
-
Again we’ve never seen eye to eye on CTA. The he was never a proven assistant is so old and doesn't hold much ground when you look at the jobs he had and what his units did under him. I don’t get how you can’t see he’s a proven assistant was he given a head coach position early, yeah for sure, but at least we have a coach willing to grind it here at IU and who wants to be here and actually build something instead of a stepping stone. He was proven at ole miss, he did work down at USF, and he took an abysmal IU defense and turned them around with no depth and made them a top 30 defense his first two seasons.....I bet you use the ex hs head coach isn’t worthy of head coach in college football. Then...I guess Wilson got lucky because he was an awful Hs coach. There’s no reasoning with you as you want to ignore what Allen is trying to build. You ignore what little depth Wilson built Allen inherited and Wilson would’ve had the same depth if he were the head coach still...not to mention where did Wilson’s offensive mind go....where did this QB whisperer go....oh yeah he couldn’t recruit QBs. Seth Littrell brought suds with him....at least Allen has some structure behind his building a football team. I’ll let people have their own opinions...as we are all entitled to them, but when people just choose to ignore facts and basis of other items....that’s when I just don’t respect the words written or spoken
-
FYI he can’t just say build this. Build that on a facilities basis. They are lucky the school even signed off on some of his ideas. The only reason improvements to the basketball locker rooms happened are basically because victor and zeller said here’s some money. Mcrobbie doesn’t want to invest in athletes or athletic teams, he sees no value. I’m surprised he was at the golf course ceremony. I can only imagine what the international studies building reveal ceremony will look like. Rabjohns has been quoted many times that we can question some of his decisions and hirings, but when it comes to facilities it’s an uphill battle for Fred glass and any coach involved. The reason these things have happened are because of his networking and ability to get donations, if he doesn’t get pro basketball players to donate we still don’t have an updated locker room. If terry talon doesn’t donate +getting friends to donate....football team is still stuck with their crap locker room and no players lounge. Tom Allen even had to go in and basically show how far behind they are in football locker room facilities.....is Fred my favorite.....no....but at least he’s trying to better our programs and better their facilities.....even tho he knows it’s an uphill battle to begin with....so at least acknowledge the other road blocks in his way.....before saying he could have done so much more.....yeah he could’ve if the board, Mcrobbie and everyone sign off on it. Tom and Fred had to plea and beg for some of the upgrades to the locker room......
-
Correct. Ik he’s impressed with some of his deep touches on the ball, just a consistency thing I believe from what I’ve read, heard, and saw. I think spring was getting back to the swing of things he didn’t do much since he left Utah in October. Then he got sick at the end of spring ball and was held out of the last few practices, lifting, and spring game (my diagnosis is Mono). He looked smaller in spring game which was about 2 weeks after they announced he was done for the spring, give or take a few days. I think he will continue to grow and will be a solid player and push everyone around him. I’d rather give him time to build his frame and spend time in ballous specimen room. Heck they’ve all been praised and talked about by everyone covering them.....again a dead horse.....consistency and not turning the ball over. Managing the game to help us win, making correct Defensive reads.....it’s a learning curve for him still i would say....Penix has actual game experience so his feet are somewhat wet....not to mention he is a dynamic player...tuttle can move out of the pocket and run if he has to do so....but let’s be honest he’s not a runner like Ramsey or Penix. As coaches have been saying all fall or really all offseason....they want to breed competition, nobody’s backing down, iron sharpens iron.
-
Didn’t say that at all. Just because he’s third right now doesn’t mean he can’t grow into his potential. I just know Penix and Ramsey have been very sharp. Very very sharp compared to tuttle. This is an actual competition. Tuttle wasn’t promised anything at IU. He’s known it was going to be a competition from the start. He’s shown some flashes here and there but he hasn’t been consistent like the other two from what I’ve heard.
-
If I’m correct......the practice he attended wasn’t full go to the ground and there were many players taking a recover day cross training basically after the scrimmage. This is just a hit piece and click bait for him because he didn’t see anything from his 2 hour skelly practice and needed to put something out, that’s my opinion. I typically like Kent and what he does, but he added no substance to what he saw or watched.....that’s one of the worst things I’ve read. And if anyone’s been following any other writers who have been to more than just 1 practice, they are liking what they are seeing, depth, talent, speed, and strength. It’s also not a 3 man race. It’s down to Penix and Ramsey. If you’ve listened to deboer recently aka yesterday’s interview.....he references both meaning two and a reporter asked him about it....he had to back track a little. Lol. At the scrimmage on Saturday it was basically Penix and Tuttle with 1’s and 2’s
-
Yup mutual. I liked him, but there’s some solid safeties we are after. Longer frames to build on. That seems to be what this staff looks for. A Jonathan Crawford body
-
FYI no longer part of this class.
-
Very young and talented and like I said need numbers as in bodies back there. I know we are no Georgia but look what they’ve done and heck even Ohio state with their RB corals they’ve built. 4-5 kids get meaningful carries every season it seems like. Pechac has moved to DB it looks like....will be interesting. Don’t have a lot of info on him in all honesty. Cam Jones is going to be a beast at LB. Ik he was looking at safety/husky rotation. Safety is pretty deep and sounds like young guys (I know Cam is young as well) have developed nicely. Starters I think will be fitz and burgess. Depth there will be Khalil, Devon Matthews, sounds like jusevitch is playing well and heck I’ll throw in freshman josh sanguitti (spelling is wrong) I liked his film and what he can bring as a ball hawk/centerfield Safety . Now cam could eventually go back there, but my cousin has told me he’s only seen him with LB group.
-
Penix is full go. Ramsey is returning starter. Tuttle has looked good and rusty at times as he had to sit out end of spring and I believe most of may and June due to undisclosed illness. I’d say it was mono. As he did look skinnier but looks good now. It is a QB competition and there is no timeline set for a starter to be named. My guess is Ramsey gets start for ball state and other guys get rotation. All three had a good day today from interviews and what I heard from my cousin.
-
He will stay at RB. There were no talks of LB or defense during his recruitment. He wasn’t a Stevie Scott LB/RB see where he fits. Speed and versatility out of the backfield is a high ceiling. Top teams have backfields 4-5 deep offering versatility. He will also have a chance in return game as well....not front runner right now but has the opportunity there. Our LB depth is better than what many think. Aaron Casey will be hard to keep off the field....had a great spring and is having good first couple practices. Other than that depth is young and it looks like Cam Jones will be in LB, he will play stinger I believe, talks were about safety/husky and LB but from interviews and what I’ve heard is Jamar Johnson and Lino Ball are the huskys. Cam will be an athletic and physical LB.

For sure. Ballou is going to love the kids frame. -
Jalen Williams TE (2020) to IU
lucel15 replied to lucel15's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Yes. He moves very well for how lanky he is. Soft hands and isn’t afraid to put knuckles in dirt and block someone bigger than him. Ballou is going to have a hay day with him -
TE aka matchup nightmare. Stands 6’7” 200lbs....plays as a TE in HS and also WR. Moves very very well for his size. Add just 30lbs and he will be a nightmare. Already catches well....also blocks well for the weight he is listed at. Love this pickup out of Florida. Deboer’s offense will be a fun one, this year and years to come. Great great get. Kudos to this staff. https://247sports.com/player/jalen-williams-46081808/

I’m just reporting what Tom Allen said this morning. Said everything looks good for Whitner but he’s not on campus yet
-
Whitner is not on campus. Should hear soon. Sounds like he will make it but some items to finish off. Brown is on campus

Some thoughts and notes on the OL pickups. We we lost out on Denis, sounded good for IU going in to Friday. Shift changed to Oregon late Friday. Darn....I really liked him. Anyway..... Feeney- first off great name. He’s a mauler. Was the only junior on Missouri all state team as an OL. Great frame. Shows great strength for an incoming senior in HS. I think this is a great get for IU and once some sites see him more, his rating should rise. Reminds me of Feeney and Wes Martin Smith- raw, long and athletic OT. Even tho he is raw he shows great ability. Sometimes his youth gets the best of him, but he shows he can move to get in position. Won’t be a starter right away, given his strength. Overall could rise in rankings as well. He impressed many schools at camps. His rating is low for those interested in that but bigger schools have offered given his ceiling. Remember coaches don’t care and don’t look at ratings of players. They look at fit in scheme. Size. Strength. Ability to add size and strength (their frame) and if they are athletic and mobile.

(2020) ATH Javon Swinton to IU
lucel15 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Kid is a fluid athlete. I think he becomes a return man/corner in our system. Or he could show up to camp next year, given he signs with us.....and be a Stevie Scott where the coaches fight for him and he ends up as a WR. Kid is also a standout on the basketball court. Possible two way play is being discussed. Averaged 27 ppg and is an outstanding 3pt shooter.
