  1. I agree, and plenty of top 100 fresh who don’t get much run turn into good players. But if he was going to stick around after a year like this it makes it even stranger that he didn’t redshirt like the staff suggested.
  2. I think what’s being referred to here is technically true: Childress played in the Northwestern game and Logan didn’t. But Childress came in and played on the wing alongside the starting bigs, so I don’t know that I agree he played over Duncomb; I can’t imagine playing TJD, Race, and Duncomb together
  3. Walsh was just saying today that Matta told him to just get guys to campus and let Woody close. And that Woody’s good at it.
  4. I’ll be curious to see how scoring is distributed at Centerville next year
  5. The most deranged, hilarious thing I’ve read today? This Illinois football radio guy (?) claiming the best player on the Ayo/Kofi/Frazier #1 seed 2021 Illini was Curbelo
  6. Dayton GA for two years, assistant DOBO one year there, came w/Arch to a similar role, last offseason listed his IU gear on Facebook marketplace during the transition but must’ve been convinced to stay. Was Team and Recruiting Coordinator this year, landed Gabe Cupps, which is one more recruit than I believe a departed assistant did
  7. I believe it was just Walsh who championed him to the new staff and sealed the deal. On Walsh, but not Cupps: Walsh was right behind the first couple seats on the bench and, I noticed, very engaged this year. Not groundbreaking, but usually a DOBO or Recruiting Coordinator type would be told to pipe down if they were overstepping, and this was going on all year.
  8. I think shooting is a fair concern here but also agree that it’s fair to be optimistic about development or simply better performance from guys with the background you mention. Yogi’s freshman to sophomore improvement is an unrealistic expectation but it’s not uncommon to see good shooters struggle as frosh or in limited minutes. Would add that a more specialized role for Kopp, next to a better secondary ballhandler, probably creates some chances, and Leal could become a reliable catch-and-shoot guy though I didn’t mention him.
  9. This rocks, good for Walsh, and keeping Ya and Hunter is big.
  10. I would guess you basically have to be a pg at that height for CMW, and/or have plus wingspan.
  11. a good reminder, though I’d add you need some depth for the regular season due to injuries, so it’s nice if your 9th, 10th guy can play enough (or are specialists, like a big body for the Edeys and Kofis). To that end, I think a core of X, JHS, Trey, Bates, Kopp, Geronimo, and one or more of Race/TJD/transfer big is a good nucleus. Leaves ~four or five grants for youngsters who need some seasoning.
  12. We measured in shoes. I know you play in shoes, of course, but there’s an easy inch.
  13. Think there’s a stylistic fit issue too, all these dudes are more physically stout and really guard you.
  14. Ohhh right
  15. Yeah fair or not MSU folks blamed him for MSU taking Foster Loyer and Thomas Kithier rather than having space for others
  16. Just to be clear I don’t think it’s likely OR a good idea
  17. Good luck to KL. Assume he probably would not have played off ball for CMW given coach’s preference for plus positional size, which means he might’ve seen the writing on the wall: behind X, JHS, maybe even Trey at PG, and Phin if he returns.
  18. Do we think Armond Hill gets moved to an AC role? I would guess he doesn’t want to recruit. Someone up thread mentioned Moye or Lewis, I like those. Maybe one of the other staffers like Walsh if CMW was a fan of what they brought and wants to promote? But I’ll be the first to say there’s no reason to expect an “IU guy,” and CMW may have connections we haven’t considered.
  19. Yeah let’s please not overreact to this. Assistants change all the time!
  20. The bothersome part of this isn’t having a consultant, I don’t think. It’s the role confusion and frustration among the staff. If Ya leaves, I would guess it has as much to do with his relationship with Kenny Payne as anything. He needed a second chance, CMW gave him one, it’s ok to have some asst coaching turnover. In this specific case I wonder if having another shot at a hire is helpful with a year of college coaching under CMW’s belt. I have no inside info but would hope Fife stays. CMW and DF are reasonable people who can help each other, maybe they’ll hammer out differences and roles.
  21. Came here to post this! More info at the link: https://www.si.com/.amp/college/2022/03/23/adidas-name-image-likeness-network I usually wish we had Nike but adidas has a head start here. Additionally, the mention of using affiliate links makes me think we’ll be more likely to be able to buy adidas gear the team(s) wear.
  22. I’m acquainted with a coach at a small, non-D1 college. He and his cohort have been telling class of ‘22 kids for a year that they should take the best offer they have. The carousel will stop with a lot of good HS seniors needing to take a grad year or play at a level down or whatever as the spots that are available get absorbed by extra Covid year players. I think there’s an element of it that’s self-serving when the coaches say it — not that they’re selfish or wrong, but a small % of guys WILL get a high-major offer still. And yet it really is a numbers game, and some guys that would’ve redshirted at, e.g., Evansville, will play D2 because a transfer takes the grant.
  23. I can pro/con UGA vs. IU for him: UGA pro — plenty of PT, coach he previously committed to, close to home con — bad facilities, probably lots of losing, the NIL $ goes to football players, poor fan support IU pro — play with your HS PG, probably plenty of PT, play for a coach w/NBA HC experience, NIL $ to be had for hoopers, rabidly supportive fanbase, tons of exposure con — farther from home
  24. Don’t have splits for it but I thought the Race at 5/JG at 4 lineups looked good this year.
