I think IU did quite well in the portal in 2021, when it ostensibly had plenty of PT to offer. I’m not too worried about it, as the work since then is good proof of concept that if you can play, you’ll have a role. They haven’t really brought in and buried any transfers who deserved more burn, IMHO, and IU can probably be a good sport for NIL ops. It is important, but I’m not too worried right now. They wanted X and Kopp and got them. Players like CMW. This staff has proven to be strong in sprint recruiting battles.

This looks like the simplest way for it to happen but there are other scenarios. In at least one, IU can actually end up the 2 seed: need to win, and need Nebraska and Rutgers to win over the weekend.

I saw neither in HS but Galloway’s counting stats were dampened by playing through injuries as both a junior and senior, if I recall. My hunch is his earlier shooting issues have some connection to that era, which included a wrist injury. My recollection is that he was the standout among those two, plus Lander, on the Indiana Elite team they all played on in summer 2019, before his senior year. (Not that this was reflected in rankings, which would weigh the injury-riddled HS seasons and, at the time, Lander’s theoretical upside. But I thought watching them play he was clearly the best player at the time, setting aside awards or projection.)

I think the implication has been that it might be mutually beneficial. Staff wanted him to redshirt last year, he wouldn’t, played 20 total minutes in 9 games: clearly would’ve been in everyone’s interest if he hadn’t used a year of eligibility that way. So this year? 9 games, 51 minutes, Grandma tweeting angrily about the staff during IU’s losing streak. If I recall there was an early season *wink wink* three game suspension too. Yes, there will be frontcourt minutes available for someone, even if we assume Reneau and Geronimo are big-minute players next year. Just no reason to believe the staff is ready to put their trust here for even the third or fourth big. More broadly, last offseason it was clear this staff wanted to build by recruiting frosh when possible, but was willing to plug holes with transfers. They have quite a few grants to use this off-season; I assume they’ll jump at any current seniors they like who ask out due to coaching changes, a la Scoop in ‘21 and Malik in ‘22, and see if any ‘24 targets are candidates to reclassify up if they’re ready. There will be in-transfers, and where they are will tell us some interesting things about what the staff expects from returners and the incoming frosh.

My guess would be yes, and Torvik’s teamcast took says as much

Almost more impressive: MSU had a 13 point lead with two minutes left, scored 12 points before the horn sounded…and went to OT

Thank you. Kevin Warren’s successor should bang my line

The other option to balance the schedules would be to somehow flex the last 3 or 4 games. It would be difficult but not impossible, so it’ll never happen. But in theory you’d schedule the first 16, everyone gets 8 home and 8 road. You always play your protected rival(s) 2x. And then the last four are scheduled based on an attempt to balance the collective schedule strength.

I wish I could agree but the SEC’s entire existence is basically a shell game to avoid accountability for its various parties

These Minnesota uniforms are sharp. Think they’re throwbacks but I’m watching with the sound off so if it has come up I haven’t heard it.

I think winning the BTT would be a nice trophy for the case, but getting a 3 seed would be more important imho. It’s not always this way but avoiding a 1 seed as long as possible, plus avoiding a 4/5 matchup the first weekend, is a big deal.

Crucial game for IU’s seeding given that UMd has the tiebreaker over us.

For what it’s worth, the track record of PGs reclassifying to get to college earlier is dire. Lander especially so, but Ashton Hagans at UK, Duke had a guy that then got forced out after a year and had a mediocre career at USC and some third school…someone looked at the reclass data and it’s rough for PGs, wish I could find the link. For other positions, on average it has not had a drastic negative impact if I recall correctly.

None of the 3 seeds really covering themselves in glory. Things change quickly in college hoops but my non-bracketologist’s hunch now would be that the top 8 should feel pretty good assuming they don’t REALLY fold, and the door is cracked for one or more of the 4-5 group to play their ways into the 3 line with strong finishes

Didn’t see the bracket show so if this was mentioned, forgive me: any consideration to IU’s injury issues in slotting them at 13?

I have gone from thinking he was underrated to properly rated. I used to think the lack of tourney success was bad luck, hiding a better-than-reputation coach. Still think there’s some bad luck but his teams annually get worse from about mid-January on. He’s also been somewhat unlucky: last year Branham was off draft radars but played his way from a 2- or 3-year college career into a 1st round draft pick, this year it’s happening with Sensabaugh. The Zed Key injury has tanked their defense…but IU’s had worse injury luck and survived it.
