(2015) QB Tommy Stevens to PSU
CottageGrove replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
I know I shouldn't wish any ill will, and I get why he would make this decision, but part of me wishes that he goes to PSU and rides the pine for 4 years. -
NO MORE B.S., FIRE WILSON!

Haha, fair enough. The sad thing is I'm a Colts fan and that's where my mind went. -
NO MORE B.S., FIRE WILSON!
CottageGrove replied to 87ashtonhoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Sudfeld was only average this year, and certainly no where close to what most thought he would be. But I think his impact was obvious when comparing the offense pre injury to now. With him we were held below 28 only once. Without him we can't crack 70 passing yards in a game. Diamont makes him look like Tom Brady. -
So you think that KJ brought these guys in (Troy & Stan) and once they started creating problems he jumped ship? If that's the case that was very classy of him, and I would say good riddance.

(2015) SF Ogugua Anunoby to IU
CottageGrove replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
In all the back and forth, I think there is a larger point here. And that is that to bring in more players next year there are people who will have to leave, whether it be to the NBA or transfer. And it's not always the guys who are the least productive who are the ones to go. I hate to throw out names, but it could be someone like Robinson. If he's asked to be the 6th man but thinks he should start it could easily be him. I could see it being Hanner too, especially if we pick up Bryant. In all fairness, and while I'm rooting like heck for him to succeed, to this point Hanner hasn't lived up to that lofty recruiting ranking he had. And by the end of last year I can remember quite a few posters on the various sites talking about how they would prefer we bring in "basketball players" first rather than just athletes like Hanner, even if it meant bringing in less athletic players. So at this point I think it's fair to speculate that it could be anyone, really. Change is inevitable and unstoppable. But the current culture of transfers (how many was it this in D1?) is a change in college basketball that I've hated to see. And yeah, I realize that last line makes me sound like an old man. :scratchhead: -
(2015) SF Ogugua Anunoby to IU

Someone help me out with OG. He's got some high major interest, and I see a lot of people talking pretty glowingly about him. I don't know anything about the kid, other than that he's an unranked 3-star. Has he not been seen by scouts? Didn't play AAU? Or is there some other reason he he's been under the radar with Rivals, Scout, 247, etc? I don't mean to question the kid or our recruitment of him. I just honestly don't know why he's ranked where he is (or isn't) given what else I've read about him, which is admittedly not much. -
Wilson on the hot seat according to an idiot

I liked Kill quite a bit last time when we were looking. I wonder if his previous health concerns scared off the administration/Glass. Or heck, maybe we were interested and Kill thought Minnesota was a better option than IU. -

Love what I saw from Redding & Roberts that drive. Way to step up! -

Count me in. From now on James doesn't exist. I dub thee Jimbo the Younger.

Every time you call him Jimbo I do a double take and think for a second on which player you are referring to. And I love that nickname for him.

When I was a student I loved tailgating in the rain. Mud foodtball, sliding down the little hills after a few beers. Those tailgates were great. -
(2014) LB Nile Sykes to IU
CottageGrove replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Looks like a great pickup! With the recruiting momentum the staff has built I've got to think getting over the hump to bowl eligibility is coming soon. The schedule isn't set up great this year, but it's coming. I've never wanted to wish time away, but we're only 56 days from kickoff! -
I've been waiting for someone to bring this up (your first sentence Reb). I keep seeing comments that the current recruits will jump ship. Have those suggesting that forgotten that the 3 recruits we have are all signed? They can't just decommit. I'm not a rules expert, but I think if they decided to go elsewhere at this point they would lose a year of eligibility. So I'll go out on a limb and say it's pretty unlikely any of the 3 are actually considering jumping ship at this point.

I thought last year that it seemed natural for us to have different/alternate uniforms for the more modern-looking helmets. As much as I liked the chrome it did look a little odd with the traditional uniforms we have. Same goes for these helmets, especially since they a little more modern even. And hey to you too Jaybob! It took me a while to find this place, and I've always much more of a lurker than a poster...been following along since the old Scout days though! Then of course to HSN, 247, and now here.

I really like the upper-left photo with the state outline. My least favorite is the bottom left that just says Hoosiers on the back. It looks like a little kid did the graphic. And for the candy stripes I think I prefer the chrome from last year to the white helmets they've put together for this, but all in all I like them.
Two points from me on this though. First I think it is highly possible that he will find that much of what worked for him at Butler just won't work in the pros. And as such he may find a desire to go back to college ball, although it might be at another mid-major. I very well could be wrong, he is a awful smart guy. Second, at IU he might not have to change his recruiting all that much. In his style of ball he doesn't need the stavle of NBA prospects that the Creans and Caliparis need. He would probably have to secure a top notch recruit here or there, but he could probably be successful without stocking up on 4 and 5 stars. Thats all a moot point if he just doesn't want to do it.
Great points. At IU I would imagine it would be much easier for him to focus in state and build with his type of players...guys like Dunham, Howard, etc. They're 4 star kids, but maybe not as heavily recruited or quite as highly ranked as the 4 star guys Crean goes after. And then of course pick up the occasional 5 star in state kid like he almost did with Zeller. He has a similar style to Bo Ryan, but obviously a better tourney track record. And he would be easy for a lot of the fan base to rally around. Maybe he could be the guy to unify most of the fan base for the first time since the early 90's. But I'm bordering on long term wishful thinking here... Sent from my SPH-L710 using BtownBanners mobile app

If I made two good points that ought to be worth a like or two, right? Am I right?!?

It always amazes me more people didn't see the article (or at least give weight to it) Gary Parrish wrote for CBS last summer when Stevens left for Boston. In it he wrote that Stevens made it very clear that he had no interest in recruiting the way you have to at a big time program, and that was part of why he wanted to be in the NBA and not at a major college program. I'm not sure if IU, or any other big time program aside from Duke (let's be honest, Duke is different), would ever be a real option for him. Heck, he may be an NBA lifer regardless of how his time in Boston ends. If NBA GM's are good at one thing it's recycling head coaches who have already failed. As for Crean, I'm still behind him, but like many, my concerns are growing. I think that one of the marks of a good coach is that he adapts his system to the players he has rather than trying to fit square square pegs into round holes. From a big picture perspective that's probably my biggest issue with Crean.

Is Coach Mallory Gone Soon?
CottageGrove replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I'm with the group that would like to see Mallory go, but if it hasn't happened by now I can't imagine that it will. I think there is a bigger question here for those who would want to replace CKW now. Who would we get to replace him? What coach in his right mind would look at our situation - one of the worst programs in a BCS conference, improvements in the w/l record every year, and fired after 3 years, not to mention all of our other disadvantages as a program - and say that he wants to take a shot here? Regardless, CKW is definitely getting at least one more year. And while I agree that his decision to retain Mallory may end up leading to his dismissal, getting rid of him now is a bad idea. I would go so far as to say the one thing I'm most sure of right now with IU football is that showing a lack of patience with a CKW and firing him now will not make us a bowl team any faster. -

In 2011 there were times that hoping for a muffed punt was our best offensive strategy. Maybe they should consider it. haha -
