A non MM post. I continue to be perplexed by Leal…I’d love to see a practice and how he plays to be earning zero minutes. Hell, he didn’t even get in for the garbage minutes at the end of the game against their walk ons. I understand he has his limitation and when I watched him in HS I knew he wasn’t going to be a big time player for us…but I thought he’d at least contribute in limited minutes and grow into a role by his senior year. I know we’ve debated this in other threads, but Heck, at this point why not toss him out there for 5-6 minutes to see what he can do. In his limited action he’s been safe with the ball, won’t wow anyone defensively, but maybe can knock down a spot up 3 here and there and provide some energy/hustle. I know I’m grasping for straws guys…but as a former Mr. Basketball, I didn’t see him being glued to the bench the entirety of his career. Hard not to think that Him plus the open scholarship could have been used to fill some serious needs.

I need to go back and watch the game again and focus on Trey, haven’t looked at the stats. But Jay Williams had 3-4 instances where he was calling out Mgbako on defense. I remember one where he was calling out his defensive stance and stiffness, another where he go beat badly on a back cut and did a complete 360 and there were several others. I think the criticism is fair of Mgbako, but also agree that others should share the same if not more blame on the defensive side. I think the focus is on Mgbako, because he was touted as a program changing 5 star stud commitment. To say he is performing short of that assessment is reality.

One rumor definitely made me ‘chuckle’…but fixing this program won’t be child’s play. I’m just hopeful we make a serious hire this time and get some buzz around the program.

From what I’m hearing, the rumor mill is churning in Bloomington pretty heavy. I find it very hard to believe he will still be leading this program after the bucket game.

3-23 in his last 26 Big Ten games. It’s time to move on.
