Bracketology and Team Resumes
newcastle12 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You are absolutely correct. The expanded field only has allowed for back half of a major conference and under achieving teams to get in to no real gain. The "First Four" games aren't watched, nobody cares enough to include them in the brackets they fill out which is one of the bigger draws of march. We didn't need whatever Indiana/Syracse/USC/Auburn gets in the field that will lose in the first 4, or first round. -
His family didn't want him to take the job, and he was offered the job this year and declined.
-
What has possibly given you the impression May wanted to be here?
-
Why is this narrative about Devries not being a good in game coach all over, does anyone actually watch the games? There are pretty regular adjustments to the actions depending on how they are getting defended. They pretty regularly have good action on out of bounds plays. They get wide open shots a lot. Not sure how he's supposed to scheme around guys missing shots, and being so athletic they get blocked at the rim every shot when they make the right reads and go to the hole. I have issues with some of their late game execution against the press a few times this year. But other than that, the guy can coach if you actually know what you are looking at. It's pretty refreshing watching a modern skilled offense.

Devries was the young and up and coming coaching candidate with the slick modern offense. His coaching adjustments are fine, so the guy can coach. So your plan is to do the same thing again for the next hire? So you go with Schertz next time and hope it's different? That's your plan? Because obviously the next plan should be getting a real power conference experienced coach and none of them wanted to come last time.

We are doing all that in football now, and we aren't spending in the top 20 there either in the most important part.
-
Did it really comparatively? This does not seem like we are spending top 20 money to me. I see a lot of teams that have a lot better rosters, and I know the rumors over what a lot of those kids are making. Our highest is somewhere near 2 million.
-
Who are you hiring that was willing to come when the job was open a year ago?
-
You are calling this roster a fast sports car? This roster is your dad's lime green El Camino. The roster gets blocked at the rim when they make the right reads, and they literally missed open shots for 20 minutes in the second half.

The NCAA is really doing this over the Right of Restitution against an actual ineligible player and trying to get a backdoor ruling here because of the nature of the Moore lawsuit ending, are trying to get a judge to say that member schools agreed to the eligibility guidelines so they can't be challenged going forward. I doubt they get that ruling.
-
The Worst case scenario would be Indiana listed as a 3-0 CFP champion, since the NCAA doesn't govern the CFP Tournament, and we'd still all wear our 16-0 gear and not give a crap anyway.

I believe the person meant somewhere in the near future since he will be out of coaching, not necessarily here at IU. Like for his brother, or someone he has ties to. Yeah I'd see no real way we'd allow that here for a variety of reasons.

If you watch this team regularly and closely and don't think that D Rock is coaching, making adjustments and getting the most out of this roster I don't know what to tell you. He has a free flowing offense, he lets shooters shoot. He calls time outs and makes very obvious adjustments out of them to the motion and actions that they run. They didn't spend the money they needed to get a top 16 type roster. These guys have had some stupid mistakes at time, but they are obviously being coached. This thread is idiotic though, there's absolutely zero reason anyone should be trying to flush this coach after year one with this roster that was put together in 6 weeks, without enough money, and without assistant coaches other than Drew Adams primarily.

could be worse, we could have hired Chris ******* Beard and have him running around like a loon shoving players and assistants while he he's ranked in the 50s.

The Women's team is getting killed by a lack of any kind of NIL support. Left behind in the Big 10.

Cig was successful because he had a great system for talent identification at the lower levels He brought most of the important parts of a top 25 team with him when he came. The University greatly increased the football investment And that was a pretty historically weak schedule to get him off to a great start, which then got the boosters to pony up a lot more money for this year, and next year.. There are very few Cigs out there.
