Just catching up on this kid. Definitely passes the eye test for me. I’d go as far as saying he would be our starting PG right now. Let’s get this kid. I’m hug on kids who have “that dog” in them. He checks that box.

I cannot stand Woodson’s sub patterns and lineups that he leaves out there. Makes no sense to me. Guess that’s why I’m not the coach.

Agree. Hummel mentioned it on the broadcast, that they have to start knocking down more perimeter shots bc teams are going to start packing the paint to force us to shoot. Mbako and Galloway have to be able to knock em down, or it’s going to get ugly in B1G play.

At this point I’ll take Leal’s IQ, leadership, and shooting ability in short mins. I know we shouldn’t judge off of one game but if we compared both guy’s impact on tonight’s result, I’d say we give those mins to Leal. He gave us a nice spark. Player really smart basketball while he was on the floor and we know he can knock down open 3’’s. I don’t think having to play either guy is going to move the needle for us. I just disagree that Gunn gives us a better chance than Leal. Call it splitting hairs? Agree with Banks. Absolutely love him. I’d love to see him get more mins. He really starts to settle in and build confidence with extended mins. Love his upside and he absolutely plays a winning style of basketball. He can be elite defensively.

I’ve held my tongue for his entire time he’s been here bc I didn’t want to throw him under the bus and frankly, I was hoping my eyes and gut instinct were wrong….. but I’ll just say it. I’m confident that Gunn is NEVER going to fill the role that some expect him to. He’s not good enough to contribute, at a high level, to a winning basketball team. I don’t believe the current staff would have even targeted/recruited CJ out of high school. Yes he has physical upside but when I watch him play, I don’t see someone who’s going to move the needle for us in the W column, unless it’s being a leader on the bench, similar to Leal. Maybe give us a few good mins in mop up time. I hope he proves me wrong, or that Woody is able to perform a miracle but I’d bet my house that I’ve got him pegged. There’s a reason why the staff was desperately trying to recruit over him in the portal and when they struck out, there was real questions about our guard depth. Woody has said things along the lines of “I can’t wait around for them” when discussing Kaleb and CJ. We have a massive hole at the 2 guard position. CJ isn’t going to fill it no matter how bad people want or expect him to.

I agree. We all know he can shoot it better too.

Turn the tv on with me kids. Didn’t realize we had a game. Turn it on. Losing to LOUISVILLE. Burn the program to the ground. We are never getting over the hump.

I can’t even watch. X is 6 years deep and plays like a freshman. Continuously. We play hockey lineups and get the same damn results every single time. Our guards STINK. Mbako is an absolute dud. Ware is the player we have that would start on any competitive teams.

I think this team gets better as the season goes on but we may on the outside looking in come March. I’m not sure I see us win any of our biggest non con games. We can’t score the basketball. So tired of shitty offenses in Bloomington.

I don’t disagree with any of this. I love that Wopdy called him out by name in the presser. Means it’s going to be addressed and he’s going to be challenged to be better. Contrary to what many believe, you have to be able to guard in the NBA.

Same. Love this kids game. He’s going to be a big time winner at the college level. I’m not too caught up in getting “pros” early on. This was a mistake imho.

They (Queen & TJD) aren’t even close to the same type of player imho. I don’t see the comparison. Queen’s best comp is Jokic. Not saying he will ever be that good or impactful on the game but their styles are similar. Both big bodied, plodding bigs, who get by on skill, not athleticism. Guys who can change the game with their ability to pass and see the floor. If Woody can convince him that he can develop him more in that mold, it’s a more realistic sell.

Bc he has no idea what he’s doing on defense. We will find out Woody’s developmental chops more with Mbako than any other player he’s had. If by Feb/Mar, he’s solid defensively, Woody can stick a huge feather in his cap. Show the film from this game vs the end of year to every aspiring NBA player.

I think this team really puts it together midway and towards the end of the season. Hope we can win enough games before then that gets us into the tournament.
