Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
IUc2016 replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
IMO IU would still need a true 5 if that were the case -
MUST WIN. Indiana: 18-12 (9-11) Michigan: 17-13 (11-9) IU is among the first four out and needs this one. Have to hope Michigan shoots their season average or below it and doesn't shoot lights out like they did in the first game. IU is 13-23 overall in the Big Ten tournament, and I say it every year, but they are due for something good to happen in this thing. On a positive note.... IU has won 6 in a row in Gainbridge/Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Let's make it 10. Go Hoosiers!

I saw that. I am Hoping that the media person picked the wrong Davis on accident. Maybe they should look at the ballots and see if someone put his brother Jordan Davis instead lol

hmmmmm.... very possible you say?

Agree with everything here. Missing the tournament will be a failure and I don't think that is debatable. But that doesn't mean the Woody era is doomed to fail. He still has the same recruits coming in that he had before the season and they are in on some really good players. The defense was a major improvement this year and it was fun to watch at times. The offense just needs shot makers, same story for the last half decade. Also, IMO Woody was 2/3 (X and Durr were positives) in the transfer market last year which gives me confidence he can make some good moves this year. HOPEFULLY IU can get some much needed player development that this program lacked under Archie and we can get back to having top end Big Ten talent on this roster. Go Hoosiers. -
(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
IUc2016 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Trayce also on the All-Defensive team. Well deserved -
Pretty hard to argue with. While the Big ten doesn't have any great teams, the top end talent in this league is as good as I can remember. Those 5 are ridiculously good basketball players and 3 of them will be lottery picks

THIS I agree with. My hope is that he is hired at Butler once Lavall is fired and he goes on a 4-5 year run with them to make his name and then we hire him. No, I don't want Butler to be very good but if I am Butler that is who I would go after. -

I am not saying I want Fife as the head coach. But it's not bonkers...? UNC and Duke which have had way way more success than IU literally gave assistants the head gig after NO head coaching experience. So not sure it would be considered bonkers. Right move? maybe not, but not bonkers -
I was just being facetious because it was reported that Indiana reached out to him last year. I honestly hope they keep him, Ohio State doesn't scare me under Holtmann.
-
Well hey at least Woody is one year ahead of Archie! this team is guaranteed at least an NIT invite.

that was me last week prior to the rutgers game. Trying to just stay away from it this week and not get my hopes up. I'll be studying the NIT bracketology instead lol

Well, Michigan fans are quite confident they will be playing Illinois. I am sure their players are as well. Let's ruin their party and show we aren't a doormat. -

I have been pretty down the past month as many, so here is my attempt at some positivity and hope... This roster has glaring weaknesses. IMO, even with a top notch coach, I am not sure that this roster is anything more than an 8/9 seed in the NCAA tournament. No dynamic scorers, not really any length and quickness on the wings, and undersized bigs who lack perimeter skills. I know that going into each game in the big ten I never felt that IU had more talent than the other teams outside the teams IU finished ahead of in the standings. Do they have enough talent to get into the tournament? yes, but not as much to really do anything. And this roster is not on Woody, yes he brought in transfers but the bulk is left over from the past staff. SO.... It all comes down to recruiting. I think we have seen a strong shift in the type of players IU has commitments from and continues to go after. Unlike Archie, Woody has shown the ability to recruit nationally and not just Indiana. He is recruiting dynamic scorers and guys with length. Plus he seems to have guys that have real basketball IQ. If he can develop those guys and keep the young guys IU has, we will be fine. Do I think Woody takes us to national titles and mulitple final 4s? no. But I do think the way he is recruiting he can have us constantly in the tournament with chances to make some runs and that is a far cry from where this program has been. Not making the tournament this year is definitely not ideal, but it isn't the end. The next 2 classes are important to get on campus and develop. Go Hoosiers. -
