They’ve been more focused on making deals which result in $$$. Those pretty buildings around campus didn’t build themselves. They made deals to get them built.

If Mike Woodson hadn’t played basketball at IU ~40 years ago would we have even considered him for the job? Among Big 1.o coaches, where does Woody rank? Among Big 1.o programs, where does IU rank? Not in terms of fan support or fan money but with the AD emphasizing their programs. How many times has it come up that coach X wouldn’t listen to IU because of the administration? I believe it’s happened at least twice. Where there’s smoke there’s fire. How can we not land a stud coach? What has the admin done in the past two decades that has pushed us ahead (not caught us up to the middle of the Big 1.o)?

I hate to break this to everyone but it goes much further than the coach of the team. There needs to be some issues ironed out above the coach and AD. I guess if we landed the right coach there could be a sliver of hope they could do it in the environment that is Indiana University but I wouldn't count on it.

Haha Illinois sucks. They were projected conference favorites with an easy schedule and are currently only a game ahead of last place Minny.

Come on, Kopp is a senior leader on this team he couldn't look lost.

You can also start extremely strict until you feel comfortable with the leadership and baseline of your team. Once that happens you can back off a bit and/or let players take ownership of the program. What doesn't help your case is getting results below your talent level. It's an easy way to implode your team and lose recruits. Looking component and winning would go a long way for Woody and this program.

I guess I won't win another prediction league until I can figure out how to edit my signature.

At least we have former players welcome around the program again though. #amirite

They probably get exposed to the toxic fans. Let's not try to hold any of the people actually involved with this program accountable. That wouldn't make any sense. Definitely the fans on message boards.

Sure it's more than just coaching. You have to recruit talent that wants to be coached, instructed, developed, and led. You have to surround them with similarly like-minded players. When your culture is part-time e and e we get the product we've seen in the recent past. Woody was supposed to change that. It doesn't take years to set a baseline.

Talent actually needs to be instructed, developed, coached, and led. Basketball talent is not the area we're lacking, especially against teams like Iowa and NW. That talent seems to arrive in Btown and then become really comfortable with just being and not getting better. That's where we are as a program.

How? The flaws that have been discussed on this board have zero impact on how our team plays. I guess I could tell my boss tomorrow I'm not performing because someone called out my performance on the other side of the country.

Agree with that. It's a double edged sword. Fantastic to show recruits and players the fan support. If you deliver you'll be an absolute legend. At the same time, you have thousands of pretty knowledgeable fans critiquing your play.

I'd get my scholly yanked in a heart beat. I can barely keep my mouth shut when things are relatively normal. There is no way they'd let me stay around the team after opening my mouth. Of course, they all have decades more basketball experience than I do so they're obviously right.

Agreed, we MIGHT be able to finish in the top half of the Big 1.o with XJ and Race back along with how JHS and TJD are putting stats up. It would depend on the e and e of that group.
