We are doing very well against the top 50. Which will help us. I think even a split in our strong games coming up with a strong showing in the BTT would get us to a 5. The MSU road game will do more for us than PU or Maryland at home.

Fire Tom Crean lol. Now it's back on topic.
-
Its his team. If Duke makes the tournament that year we would be saying how K has led them to 30 straight. He hasn't. You said he hasn't missed the tournament since his 3rd year which is not true.
-
If you flip Davis and Crean's tenure after Knights it would be the same discussion with a different name.

Look at who they played. He wasn't coaching too much during that season to begin with. His October surgery left him with chronic pain that would keep him up days on end. He actually tried resigning, but Tom Butters talked him into taking a leave. He still addressed his players and coaches after his leave. 9-3 yes. But, that is like saying we went 9-3 with our pre-conference. Would you have been impressed with that? Would you have been impressed by beating up on Brown, Northeastern, or the other preseason scrubs? They played 3 ranked teams and won 1. That was like us beating Notre Dame. Not really impressive. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/college/mens-basketball/article9252488.html

94-95. I know he had back surgery that year, but that still counts on him. They went 13-18 that year. The following year they went 18-13. Today, they don't make the tournament because of that record. Hell, a couple of years after that you had College of Charleston that everyone thought was a highly ranked team getting a low seed. That is when mid-majors started getting respect. But, they still made it with the 18 win team. But 94-95 Duke team that he recruited and coached for 12 games before back surgery and "exhaustion" was his team. Edit: I don't really think if they had a solid team that year he would have taken the last half of the year off.

It was long before Crean that started.

I don't think people realize what they are asking. It has never been done ethically.
-
No coach can make the tournament every year of their tenure. Knight didn't. Coach K didn't.
-
So can Crean going forward 9 out of 10 years or he should be fired. He missed his on year after our top ranked team.
-
Now that is funny shit.

I would personally love another Bob Knight. Although the chances of getting another top 3 coach in NCAA history are pretty slim. I understand that is the standard but ain't happening.

Not sure more than 2 or 3 coaches in America can give you what you truly want. I hate to say it, but I think you will be disappointed no matter who the coach is. I am not sure if you know this or not, but the most overwhelming title favorite enters the tournament with around a 20% chance to win it all. Maybe 2 or 3 teams total every year enter with above 10%. Even Duke under Coach K is like 2 out of 5 years over 10% chance when the brackets are announced. Not sure what consistency truly is? Arizona under Sean Miller that is ranked high every year to be bounced early? Kansaas under Bill Self who by the standards presented underachieves outside of his one title yearly? I mean if one title is a fluke, than that is his outlier. His norm is being ranked high and getting bounced as a favorite. Only 2 active NCAA coaches either come close or exceed their Tournament expectations. Coach K and Izzo. Even Coach K has years where he is a 2 getting bounced by a 15. But, he follows it up with a title. I understand what you are asking for, but you won't be happy with what you are asking for. The argument will then turn into he can't win the big game. If our theoretical coach wins 1 title in 20 years like an Izzo, it will be he is not winning consistently enough. Someone should ask Izzo how "flukey" any title run is.

In a year where nobody is dominant it would be more impressive. If you are stacked like we were in 12-13 a loss is a kick in the nuts. When you have close to 20 teams you could see in the Final Four you really have to give it up to the teams that survive. I am not as bold as Dakich that thinks we are going to the Final Four. But we should at least make that Second weekend and be in it to advance.

Yeah I didn't think the fouls were egregious but the non travel calls were awful. Like you said they had 5 or 6 easy. Hell we had two off the top of my head that were questionable at best. One was Troy at the top of the key after he picked up his dribble. He pivoted. Then switched his pivot foot after a pivot right in front of the ref. I honestly have no idea what the refs were looking at last night.

Hey man, please stop trolling this thread. These dudes for the most part will discuss anything with anyone. That is what this about. I have been going back and forth with people in this thread for a while. This isn't a thread to throw any shade in the face of "Crean haters" after every win. To this point in his tenure he has drastically underachieved the last few years. If you were to ask me point blank on this day would I want him gone for stability? I would say yes, mostly due to his history. I think steadiness is a better recipe for sustained success than impulsive coaching or practicing. Lets see how the year finishes up and in the meantime we will keep debating the things in between. That is what this is for.

Huge win. Didn't think IU would win if Yogi played like trash. I was wrong.
