2025 NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament Discussion
HoosierDevils replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This. BYU defense is ranked 82 on KenPom. That game was comically bad defense all around. Duke is 5. It was always going to be hard for Bama to replicate their shooting performance from the S16–they typically don’t shoot the ball THAT well as it is—but they also faced a much better defensive team with a ton of length. -

I feel like they either scour message boards and regurgitate info or just base it off DMs from super fans Anyways, Osterman is saying everything is probably coming from the agent side: -

That’s what I was thinking given they said it was awarded because of UNC’s NCSOS and metrics neither of which are great for IU -
Also lost Maliq Brown again...he's a big part of Duke being a top defensive team this year

Like purdue they ran the table in their conference pre/during-WWII and are very proud of that and also like purdue who take credit for Wooden's success at UCLA they take credit for Hurley's success at UConn -

That is a blow to NC State fans. They definitely thought they were in the running for Wade. I suppose it could be a negotiating thing to try to get more money & NIL commitments but the wording seems too harsh to cultivate a working relationship. I think IU is the only bigger job out there? I guess he might be interested in Virginia they seem to be much more into Odom and he seems more of a Nova and Texas guy if they open; but surely this is an attempt at signaling that he's available and looking to get back into the major leagues -

I definitely understand this perspective, I guess my only continued hang up is that URI fans want him out too for doing basically the same thing he did at IU -- doesn't care about a program's history, doesn't seem to connect with players at all, and frankly doesn't win (he's like 16-31 in the A10 there). And this is with URI having one of the better NIL situations in the A10 after Dayton. They should def be more competitive than he has them, and while I think he's a great dude he just seems like the type of guy that college basketball just went by over the years both in P5 and top mid major. -

There's a ton of Will Wade noise right now, in general, for open jobs that both exist (NC State) and those that don't at least yet (Texas). I think a lot of P5 fanbases see him as the unicorn coach w/ mid major success, P5 success, top level recruits, and whose only transgressions are moot given NIL and other recruitment rule changes. I would have no doubt that every fan base has diehard Will Wade fans and that his agency firm is happy to see how many $$$'s they can collect this cycle (which they should as it is their job and basis for income) -

Zach Osterman describes these mid major coaches: Jerrod Calhoun (Utah St), Alan Huss (High Point), Ben McCollum (Drake), Bucky McMillan (Samford), Niko Medved (Col St), and Ryan Odom (VCU). I will say I was not terribly familiar with Medved but cool that he basically built three programs -- Furman from scratch, Drake was 7-24 the season before he arrived, and now basically from scratch at CSU. The crux of the article, though, is pretty basic -- there's some very good mid major coaches but the question mark for all is can you handle expectations, donors, alums, preferences for recruitment & style of play, big personalities, etc. -

I think they still need another quad 1 win and maintain not having any Q2 or below losses which likely would require beating OSU, taking care of business in the first round of the BTT, and then winning another. The noncon schedule and performance was just so poor. Also worry about bid stealers if the resume isn’t great going into the conference tournament -

You may be right but I don’t think ITH doing a profile is what would indicate that - they’ve done one on everybody discussed on this board and will continue to put out profiles of coaches people are talking about broadly speaking -

Seemed to be pushing for Woodson around March 21 2021. Could see some connection to CMW with how they were pushing for him. So I don’t think they’re trolling us but also don’t fully buy the quality of info they’re getting. The timeline just doesn’t add up for me. If things heated up over the weekend and well after the team left for PNW, I don’t see CMW just being so connected to the search (and hearing BS and SD talks went nowhere which is counter to the other info people have gathered) and then calling buddies back in Btown about it between games. -

Thanks! Was thinking it would be weird for Woodson to just be chatting up a mutual friend back in Btown about a coaching search he’s not really involved in and on bad terms with the AD staff during a “win and in” stretch in the PNW -

This may be a topic for another thread — or until they have another game — but I wonder your take on Archie Miller’s performance at URI?

And people seriously considering Brownell as legit for his top 3 finish in a mid major level conference
