That was a joke

Coached under Oates, McDermott and D. Hurley. I’d take that
-
They can always find Woody telling stories in a local barber shop
-
I think someone got word that we were talking to McDermott. We were, but we were talking to him about DeVries.
-
Probably didn't phrase it right that he was one WV's two top scorers. They brought in Jayden Stone as a transfer to be a scorer. He averaged 20.8/5.6/2.7 the prior season at Detroit. Scored 30 in Detroit's final Horizon tourney game. Wasn't available all season for WV.
-
I think there's something to that. I was very high on his hiring, but something just seemed off from the beginning. I think he was handcuffed with not turning over the roster. I've always wondered what would have happened if he could have brought McKinley Wright.
-
I think the most notable thing is the records the season before they got the job. Gregory was 22-14 in 2010-11. Archie was 20-13 in 2011-12. Medved was 17-17 at Drake in 2017-18, DeVries was 24-10 in 2018-19. WV was 9-23 in 2023-24, DeVries was 19-13 in 24-25, despite losing his two top scorers to injury.

For the DeVries is Archie crowd: Indiana asked, for example, whether a head coach successful in a certain job had inherited any of that success, or built it from scratch. There was a method behind that: The university was burned when it hired Archie Miller in 2017, then perceived to be a promising young coach, only for Miller to flop in Bloomington after four years without an NCAA Tournament appearance. Decker’s number crunching picked up on the fact that Miller had more or less sustained success at Dayton, rather than built it — Brian Gregory won 97 games in his final four seasons coaching the Flyers, before handing off to Miller, who won 90 in his first four years there. DeVries compared favorably in that analysis. Drake had won just 40 games in the four years before he arrived, compared to 95 in his first four years. His work at West Virginia covered a smaller sample size but showed similar results. In his first season in Morgantown, DeVries’ team won 10 more games than in the previous season — it was the largest single-season turnaround in program history — six more in Big 12 play, and the Mountaineers showed demonstrable improvement in defensive metrics in particular.

Can't offend The King
-
Not if you look at Ballo’s career stats. His FT % was better than last year, but just back to his career average. Assists were up slightly, but shooting % and rebounds were down. Scoring average the same. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/oumar-ballo-1.html

He was on Dolson’s list last season when still at Drake
-
Can you imagine trying to do that in the NBA today?
-
He’s very limited
-
Possibly, but the old Pac12 was so different than the B1G. Look at all the awards that Rice, Ballo and Carlyle won last year and didn't sniff a B1G award. Pac12 wasn't nearly as physical. Not much emphasis on defense. I was just really disappointed in Rice's ball handling and decision making. Couldn't believe how often he played in the half court with his back to a defender so he wouldn't get the ball stolen. You just can't play PG that way.
-
Rice doesn't have a B1G PG body, doesn't have a tight handle for a PG or good court vision. He could occasionally freelance and get a basket. Never seemed to know what the offense was, although he wasn't alone.
-
He was a resource for Dolson on the search. So was McDermott.
-
There was no waiting. Stevens made it clear on 2/14 that he wasn't a candidate for the IU job. He did the same four years ago.
-
The willingness of so many to be catfished for so long, because they hear what they want is astounding. Even when they’re being patronized with obviously fake info. Every coaching search reveals the same thing. True insiders aren’t on message boards and they don’t leak until they share with their preferred media sources.
-
How do you think those records look if the teams had flipped coaches
-
Don’t think it’s a panic hire at all. Think he was on the list last year had we moved on from Woody
-
Huggy as GM, Beard as head coach. Billy Clyde as associate HC
-
I don’t care if he has different political views. I do care that he’s a virtue signaling, insufferable @$$. I don’t think he even believes half of what he says. He’s intimidated by his own players, such as Draymond Green and Steph Curry.
-
Nothing. He's a MAC/Horizon caliber player. Will probably go to Wright St.
-
Because next to Popovich he's the most overbearing, self-important, virtue-signaling SJW in sports
