Transfer Portal w/IU Interest
Asha’man replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
lol Kiddo! Thanks for thinking I’m much younger than I really am. I’ll be sure to tell my wife who wants me to dye my grey hair. lol. Indiana is a great place to live. It provides me with a good standard of living at a low price. Which then allows me to travel the world and have disposable income. I have friends who spent $1.5 mil on a 1200 sq ft home in the Bay Area in last couple years. Add in the crime and homelessness compared to Indiana, it’s not close. You may not like Indiana, but I love it here. People are friendly as well. Say hello to a random person in the Bay Area and they will think you’re trying to scam them. So I kindly say we will never agree on Indiana being a great state if you don’t like generally friendly people, low cost for standard of living. -

Hahah. Bc Cal Berkeley and Stanford are killing it in recruiting. You’re wrong on this one. Take the L and move on. And I’m saying that as someone from that area and chose to leave that cesspool and not go back. Indiana is a fantastic place to live. -

As someone from the SF Bay Area, Indiana is not a **** hole compared to that mess. -

It took Golden 3 years. First year was under .500 at Florida. Kelsey had a great turnaround as did Mayb at Michigan. But their own fan bases didn’t think the talent that was brought in at either school would lead to the success they had. It’s part of why I’m not stressing who we didn’t get. More interested in Who we do get and how it works. And we won’t know that for another month or so. Dusty didn’t have his first player until a week from now at Michigan in year 1. I just see no reason to panic or be doom and gloom or concerned at this point. -

Honestly the only player at WV that has eligibility that I wanted at IU was his son. -

Dusty didn’t land his first recruit at Michigan until like April 17th or something like that. People were anxious at Michigan too. But the university leveraged their connections to Sam Webb and the guys who run MGoBlog to put water on the fire. This let Dusty get to work with positive spin from the biggest Michigan outlets, cooling the fanbase. -

Not sure about how many he wiffed on, but he had a losing record in year 1 at Florida. Got a bunch of zero star recruits in year 2. Then won it in year 3. -

His resume is impressive though. The dude wins. Get a bunch of 3 stars and have a couple 4 mixed in and he will be just fine. If he had the transfer haul Florida just won a title with, many of the fanbase would be up in arms that he can’t recruit. Recruiting will be just fine, especially next year. People need to step off the ledge. The staff was just completed within the last 48 hours. -

It’s 10:20 am and Wilkerson hasn’t committed yet? We are doomed. -
What about when the rule is deemed to actually be in violation with the actual law? That’s not a rule to follow. And that’s what the “cheating” coaches were doing. They were following actual law and not some bs rule by the NCAA.
-
Well when a rule against paying players is actually deemed illegal through the justice system, the issue isn’t the coaches that broke the rules it was those who imposed the rule and then those that followed it without questioning the actual merits of it. So for decades people profiteered off that system. Now others are profiting.

Highly recommend listening to the latest Podcast on the Brink podcast by Inside the Hall. Goes over Florida and Houston’s portal recruiting and how you don’t need 4 and 5 star players. There was more 0 star players in the national championship game than 4 star players. Need experience and players that have produced at other schools. -

No limit eventually. Once the players are deemed employees they won’t be able to be fired due to too many years of service. -

That just says they wanted to talk, not that he was the preferred candidate. I’d hope Dolson was talking to several coaches. We know he got feedback from McDermott about DeVries as well. -

House settlement hasn’t been finalized. Every school has “whiffed” on players. It’s not who we missed, it’s who we get. Let it play out. -

Or can be as simple as people being inpatient. We already picked up more players than Dusty did by this time last year. Not all the good players are done. That’s just not a true statement. Portal rankings are even worse than high school rankings. Go look at who the top players were in the portal the last couple years. Plenty of stellar players “ranked” low in the portal. People are just anxious to be good and want good news. And it’s an immediate gratification society now. But let’s see what the roster actually looks like in a month and then complain about it. lol. -
Listening to a podcast on my drive home from work and found it interesting what they are saying about NIL and Michigan. Seems like from a profit sharing perspective Michigan basketball is getting between 4.5-5 mil. Then other NIL deals ontop of it. They also have a GM for both basketball and football that have similar philosophies similar to NFL front offices. Where they set a cap on what they will spend on each position. Where each position is ranked in terms of importance to how Dusty wants to play. And then they don’t go over the self imposed cap for that position type. Dusty also wanted to keep Tre Donaldson but Trey wanted to be the sole PG. Dusty wanted him to play some backup PG and then maybe start as the SG.

The new Wisconsin Badgers.

I totally get your point and generally agree. However, I agree with the original poster. The player pool is predominately African American. Having a staff member or 2 that are highly qualified and also from the same cultural upbringing as most college players is a smart move.

2025 NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament Discussion
Asha’man replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Don’t care about the grades either. As the Ohio state national champ QB once said, we didn’t come to play school. lol. UNC national title with fake classes. These kids are employees and always have been, the old guard is still fighting the recognition of it. IU could have chosen to keep Sampson anyway and had no ban bc the rule was changed a year later. The post season ban was by IU not the NCAA. -

All of which IU also brings in every year in the student population as well. Had immediate family member leave IU bc her roommate was dealing drugs out of the dorms freshman year. This stuff is happening already. Do I condone the behavior? no. would I fire a basketball coach over it? No The athletic department should have turned a blind eye to the phone calls. The rule was dumb. Had they waited a year it wouldnt have been a rule anyway and nothing to report. And the NCAA can’t legally force any institution to turn over materials or data. IU damaged themselves.
