No offense buddy, but I think some boosters/AD use board insiders to spread half truths. I think it’s true we took a run at Stevens. But the game of telephone happens and next thing we know he signed and it’s a done deal. Love what you bring to the board and look forward to some recruiting updates from you. Don’t feel bad about any of this stuff. You’re valued around here.

The fan fiction about Stevens is the stuff of legends. I’m good friends with one of Stevens former players, and it was never going to happen. It was always a pipe dream. It’s why I never bought it. But it was fun to discuss in the thread for sure. I did love the whale AI pics. lol.

We were on the same boat for Archie. I’m excited about DeVries. I think he will do a good job. Won’t win the press conference but I think he can win here.

Losing does. But it’s all part of the picture. Recruits do check the social media and message boards.

Rumors don't hurt a program....losing for 25 years does... It does create a toxic environment from the fanbase. Which isn’t healthy. And the next coach won’t have an anything to do with sucking for 25 years. Everyone needs to get behind him. Whoever it is.

It’s a process guys. Just be patient and let the process take care of this search. And for those of you who don’t understand the process, go back to the beginning of the process and start again. I think I did that right.

I think this is where all the Stevens, white whale, big fish rumors hurt the program. I appreciate the insiders as they have brought the goods on recruiting. But I said this before and I’ll say it again the insiders have never been right on the coaching searches. I’ve been around since before Sampson was hired and each times the insiders would throw out these rumors, and it was always false. But let’s not crucify them. Let’s just back the next coach. If it’s DeVries, let’s support him and the program. He is a damn good coach and would be our best coach since Sampson.

In some respects DeVries is the safer pick. He was very successful for years at the D1 level. He also has proven he can recruit well at a power conference level with less resources than IU. And they should have made the dance in year 1 after turning around WV quickly.

My gut feeling is DeVries is a better fit for IU than McCollum. But McCollum might have the higher upside and bigger risk. I’d support both guys or whoever ends up being hired.

I’d be optimistic about DeVries. Isn’t a home run press conference hire but it could be a home run in the long term.

I’m confident it’s not DeVries at this point. If he had accepted the job it would be out by now. He would have let WV know and they would already be putting word out that they have an opening.
