  1. He has authority, but making that hire without consulting PW, QB and certain others within the University “family” just doesn’t happen. It works that way everywhere.
  2. You think most of those people know more about basketball than Quinn? Uh, no. Not even close. Most of them hadn’t even been ADs before we hired them.
  3. Elaborate on why basketball is more difficult that football. And I already explained to you why we’ve struggled. It’s not a mystery. But Georgetown and Syracuse also say hello. Programs that used to be good are now average. It happens everywhere.
  4. Nebraska football sure has.
  5. Terry Clapacs, Clarence Donniger, Michael McNeeley, Rick Greenspan, Fred Glass, Scott Dolson - who in this group brought the necessary experience to make consistently good hires?
  6. No they aren’t. Many schools make bad hires. The examples are everywhere. The right fit isn’t as easy as people believe.
  7. Not at all. It doesn’t happen as you claimed. ADs build consensus and collaborate when high profile hires are made, and that’s how we do it, too.
  8. Agree, sort of. Rick Greenspan could’ve quit but instead he acceded to the wishes of AH. He later paid the price for not taking a stand. QB has bad varying degrees of influence over the last three hoops coaches. It hasn’t been a free ride for the people involved.
  9. That’s not how it works just about anywhere. We aren’t unique.
  10. Universities and university athletic departments don’t tend to work that way, perhaps because the environment is so unique.
  11. I shouldn’t have responded when I was attacked, so I’ll take the blame for that. No excuse.
  12. Usually, the simplest answer is also the correct one.
  13. Agree with everything here except the top 10 roster part - I don’t think we have that. Davis, Sampson, Dakich, Crean, Miller, Woodson - not one inspired choice, and the results prove it.
  14. We haven’t had the right guy leading the program.
  15. It wasn’t my hypothetical, but I assume the poster was referring to a scenario in which there wasn’t total agreement to move Woodson out.
  16. I understand there is / was a huge difference between football and basketball, which is why we allowed a football coach who was over his head to remain in his job for three awful years. By comparison, Woodson has been “only” mediocre, yet he still is on thin ice. Yes, the standards have always been different at IU, as has the length of the leash.
  17. I think he has a great and growing level of influence to get things done, so yes, I think he could fight and win that battle.
  18. What do you think is the “why”?
  19. If he hasn’t broken through to a top three finish in the conference and a Sweet Sixteen tournament spot, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him replaced. If those results aren’t attained, I believe there will be sufficient momentum internally to go in a new direction. Remember, though, that Crean’s ending wasn’t a consensus-based decision. Somebody won that battle, though.
  20. I haven’t explained why the fans are so pissed and dumbfounded. I’ve explained how, why and when IU makes decisions related to coaches.
  21. Haven’t posted in defense of Woodson et al. I’ve merely tried to explain how, why and when the powers-that-be do what they do.
  22. Do you think Bubba pushed out Mack Brown without getting the support of his President? Do you think he’d push Hubert out without doing the same thing? If not, then they’re not conducting things any differently than we do.
  23. In all seriousness, who would be retained to provide that level of coaching mid-season?
