  1. Don’t know if there is a thread for this kind of news or maybe one should be started… Clingan from UCONN has entered the draft.
  2. Can a player receive NIL and not be on scholarship? I would rather not lose Cupps, but if it was possible, could Leal keep his money, and stay on the team as a non-scholarship player?
  3. True...the head coach just retired as well.
  4. Per the NCAA website, only 3 freshman were in the top 100 in regards to 3 point shooting percentage this past season. Sheppard was #1 at over 52%. The other 2 guys were ranked in the 80’s at around 35%. Neither of them were on P5 teams.
  5. Excellent post, and it states exactly the response I have when people say that what Sampson or Wade did is legal now, so let's look past it. If guys are gonna cheat under whatever rules were in place at the time, what makes anyone think they are going to do a moral or ethical 180 and all of a sudden become choir boys? Character is built over time, and that timeframe shouldn't be sped up to meet a program's desire to win. Wade needs to show more proof that he can run a clean program before IU should ever consider him, imo. IMO, Sampson has run a clean program at Houston, but he's also a two-time offender. Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. As far as Beard goes, not sure what to think. the woman dropped charges..so there's that. If he does have a drinking or substance abuse problem, a smart AD would include in a contract the requirement that he attend regular counseling. And that forgoing counseling or having a relapse would be grounds for immediate discharge, without any buyout. I would also assume that a university in today's world could afford to hire someone to be an on-staff monitor, so to speak. Just my opinions. Depending on who is actually available when Woodson retires or is let go, I would consider Beard, with the above types of stipulations in his contract. Sampson would never be allowed to return. Wade would not make my list.
  6. Not sure about that. When TJD and Ware both credit Woodson for getting them prepared for the league, and with the way TJD has played, there is a story that can be told. A big who has NBA aspirations has to pay attention to what he’s been able to do with those guys
  7. He did overcome cancer, so that might have something to do with those stats
  8. Agree, but I think most pro folks don’t want to participate
  9. I voted “no”, but feel that this is just another way to divide the board and ostracize people
  10. Not to be forgotten, Cupps is a coach's kid. I can see him developing into a more skilled Leal... being able to get other guys in the right place, coach on the floor type. He also came across as a hard nosed guy. Every team needs a player like Cupps. Someone who other players respect and listen to. Obviously, as a freshman he hadn't earned his stripes yet. I fully believe Gabe will grow into this kind of role, and we'll be happy he's a Hoosier.
  11. What are you basing your opinion on? What happened this past season? Or do you take into account that players can improve over the offseason, and that guys often take a considerable jump between their first and second years. I wouldn't write Cupps off, is my point. He made a few big shots, and I think could provide some valuable minutes this coming season.
  12. I really don't care for Dan Hurley, but I heard part of an interview with him yesterday that at least made me respect him some... He said that when they are recruiting a guy, they spend a fair amount of time evaluating the parents. If the player has parents who are constantly complaining, blaming the coaches, on social media, they will tend to stay away from the recruit. Conversely, if the parents hold the kid accountable, foster the idea that the kid is not entitled to anything but has to work for his playing time, that the kid working through adversity is the solution vs. having mom or dad ***** about it....those are the guys he's looking for. Gunn is an example, and I am sure there are more, whose parents caused more locker room dissension that anything the players did.
  13. Based on their history, they'll be back in the FF in 2068.
  14. Malone just won the Bevo Francis award, going to the best small college player in the country. This covers NCAA Divisions II and III as well as NAIA and junior colleges.
  15. Aden Holloway, 5-start pg from Auburn in the portal. 7.3ppg, but only shot 30% from 3. 77% free throw shooter.
  16. He came in during the first half to give Edey a spell and promptly gave up an and one to Clingan. Got pulled almost immediately after. I think Edey was on the bench for 30 seconds.
  17. For all the props Painter gets for being such a good coach, I sure didn't see him make any adjustments last night that would suggest that he didn't choke on the largest stage.
  18. Listened to Matt Jones who is the radio voice of UK on the way into work today. Cal and the AD do not like each other, and there is no way that Barnhart would welcome him back. In saying that, he said that if something is not announced today, then the red flags go up on this story. If Cal is gone, in order he said that they should; 1) throw tons of money at Jay Wright and make him say no. If he does , then 2) throw tons of money at Hurley and make him say no. If he does, then 3) Oates and 4) Scott Drew, in that order. He said it should not go farther down any list than that, and that if he were betting, he'd bet it will be Drew. Take it for what it's worth.
  19. The entire Drew family is very religious. Homer set an awesome example
  20. I don’t think Hurley understands the concept of the coaching box
  21. My hype meter just blew up. Guess the media needs to be all about themselves
  22. If there are guys who want to visit on 4/20, is that a bad sign?
  23. The last time a western time zone team won the tournament was 1997, and only 8 teams from that part of the country have made the FF since then
  24. Interesting! Sydney Sticha, a nursing student from Hastings who does not follow men's college basketball, correctly predicted the entire men's Final Four field and won $64,000 in a promotion from Treasure Island Resort & Casino. Hers was the only perfect prediction out of more than 3,500 submissions. She made the picks on a whim, didn't follow the tournament and thought that she was being pranked when notified on April Fool's Day that she had won. And in case you are wondering who Sticha likes the rest of the way: She picks Purdue over UConn in the title game. From today’s Minneapolis newspaper. I may have her make my bracket picks next year
