General Coach Candidate News
steubenhoosier replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
1. If a guy is guilty of breaking the rules to the point that he gets fired and has a show cause, you really think he won’t find a way to break whatever rules exist now? 2. For a guy you claim is so smart, he was really dumb to allow himself to have conversations recorded that led to his demise. 3. For a university that has consistently shown that optics are important, your pushing Wade down everyone’s throats shows you aren’t reading the situation correctly. 4. For a poster who has pretty much alienated himself from almost everyone on this board, you certainly don’t know how to read the room. Either that, or your comment that Wade doesn’t care what people think of him applies to you as well… Wait a minute. Are you Will Wade? -

If we’re gonna look at the likes of Wade, Bears and Pitino, might as well add Greg Marshall’s name to the list -

Coaching malfeasance cost us the game last night. Hatton should be the backup to Ballo. Make Reneau sit until he learns that his selfishness is hurting the team. I agree that Rice should not have been the guy with the ball for the last possessions. I can see his mindset though. He was a major factor in our comeback v Maryland, and I think he wanted to play hero ball. It should have been Gallo, but that's what lousy coaching does. For Rice, he needs to sit, and only play when there are at least 3 starters on the floor, with the understanding that he is option #4. He does give us something neither Gallo or Leal possess, which is a quickness to blow by defenders. However he plays too out of control to be depended on. Feel bad for the guys who played their hearts out last night. Feel angry that it took 2/3rds of the season for them to do so. Players only meeting righted the ship a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, we don't have a TJD on this roster who combined the skill and respect of his teammates to lead the way. Closest guy that resembles this is Goode, and it's a shame that he was only a Hoosier for one year. Finally, I think it is time that the players to tell Woodson to get out of the way. Let them run things with the help of Calbert and Hulls. Outcomes can't be any worse that what we are seeing. -

Only irrelevant because it doesn’t fit your agenda. Look at what Self did at Kansas after leaving Illinois. Roy after leaving Kansas for UNC. I can cherry pick examples as well as you can -

Before Edey there was Haarms. Before that Haas. You get the idea. That is if you seriously want to look at the pattern -

Wait. His offensive strategy the last few years was to throw it into Andre the Giant and let him bully his way to the basket. -

Understand, and agree in part. What you are asking for isn’t going to happen in today’s world. Back in the day, basketball was regionalized. You only saw games played in your neck of the woods. Players mostly saw a few teams. Certainly, their recruitments were influenced by this. Now, kids can watch programs all over the country and see how different coaches Coach, and interact with the players. My point is, the days of “locking down the state” are long gone. No way can a coach rely on just pulling the best players from Indiana- they have too many options -

I was there as well. First season watching was 1972. The comparison holds kind of true. RMK set the bar higher than Keady ever could. The IU fanbase expectations are greater because of this. May in part explain why our fanbase is more impatient and expresses the angst that they do. -

Is that what you want? A guy who doesn’t care what people think? Great way to ingratiate yourself with the high school coaches who you are recruiting from. IIRC, that was one of the reasons Crean lost his luster… he thought he was the smartest guy in every room. -
