Then he isn’t going to be as effective, correct?
-
How much does he give up on the other end? Also, would Woodson’s offense support the volume of shots Blackmon needs?

Those mean ole UK fans are the reason Cal is struggling….the fans need to just accept Cal is the best they are going to get. Who do they think they are? UK, Kansas, Duke? :) -

Oh, it means something. Either IU is mediocre as a program or May is good enough. Maybe both? -

May is on the radar of how many schools? Ya know, the one that don’t care about “IN ties”? May won more games in the NCAA last year than IU has in the last 9 years? Or is it 10? -

Hot Take: UK wants to get rid of Cal and needs him to land a job to off set the buy out…. Cal goes to IU. Pearl goes to UK and IU gets Cal. :) -
Transfer Portal w IU Interest

If Woodson changes what he has done the last 3 years and goes 4 out 1 in with MM at the 4, picks up 2 shooters along with a solid point, IU could be very good next year. I just don’t see it happening. Prove me wrong Mike….please? lol -

This is what I am expecting. MM will play the 3 and Reneau will play the 4. IU picks up at least 2 front court players. One being a rim protector and the starting 5. The other comes off the bench to back up the 4/5. IU then picks up 2 guards. One will be starting point and the other some form of a shooter that will come off the bench. IU must bring in an All Big Ten level point guard that’s a threat from deep. It’s an absolute must if IU is going to make the NCAA next year. -

For starters, In 8 years at Iowa, Alford finished higher than 4th in the B10 once and made the NCAA 3 times, winning one NCAA tourney game. Alford makes McCaffrey look like Knight. -
Didn’t he enter the portal last year and come back?

It’s way, way too early for this, but I will bite…. Your first point is accurate, but you leave out the most important part. Yes, Reneau is a great offensive player, but the problem is on other end of the floor. He can’t guard the perimeter as a 4 and is too foul prone as a 5. What he scores, he gives up on the other end. Add to the fact he isn’t a very good rebounder, I honestly don’t know what you do with Reneau. MM improved a ton this year and showed flashes at the end. But was it against bad teams or was it legit? He is absolutely vital to IU’s success next year, but much like Reneau, there is a lot of things that need to improve. If MM stays at the 3, defensive rotation has got to improve drastically. And MM is another one that needs to improve rebounding. I am not worried about MM putting up 16 a game next year, it’s what he gives up on the other end is what I am concerned about. The next point is where next season is won or lost before July. IU needs a play making guard that’s a threat from deep. A All Big Ten level point guard. They also need a ton of shooting. 2 or 3 guys that can hit from the high 30s is crucial. Miss on any of this in the portal, next season is lost before it starts. IU doesn’t need a rim protector if the perimeter defense improves. But with Reneau and MM at the 3 and 4, a rim protector is probably required. Which clogs the lane on the other end. And let’s be real, IU isn’t getting another Ware in the portal. Even if everything you said happened, I would still be concerned about perimeter defense and rebounding. And all this assumes the staff will change offensive and defensive philosophy in the next couple months. -

So…you can believe he can’t find a coaching job or you can believe he is choosing not to take the coaching jobs offered. I have no dog in this fight, but if I was trying to get a head coaching gig, I wouldn’t be doing play by play on the radio -

If Fife was on staff anywhere, I would agree. But it’s pretty clear Fife isn’t in demand. He wasn’t on staff anywhere last year and MSU fans don’t have a very high opinion of him. I am not a Woodson fan…but I find it hard to believe any “smear” campaign from IU would stop someone from getting Fife. -
