IU has ranked 347, 327, and 301 the last 3 years for 3 pts made. That is horrible and you simply cannot win in todays game not making 3s. How anyone can watch the tournament this year and not see this is strange to me. We got into the tournament last year because we had a first team all American in the paint….and still got blown out in the second round.

I am honestly not expecting much from Tucker. He isn’t mentioned in any 2025 mock drafts and needs to pick up some weight to play in the B10. I hope things weren’t promised

And I disagree. I think Woodson’s system forces guards to make difficult passes, Fran’s system is way more free flowing. If I could tweak any stat for our guards, it would be 3pt%, not turnovers.

In completely different systems. You aren’t comparing apples to apples here. I bet healthy X puts up those numbers at Iowa…maybe better.

Now just imagine if everything was the exact same except Cupps was a 40% 3PT shooter. Just tweak that….nothing else. Would IU have won more games? Clemson, NC State, Alabama….they all have a kid whose whole role is to shoot. Nothing else. Liability on defense, can’t creat own shot, can’t rebound….but they can shoot.

You just described a healthy X in your last paragraph. That’s not going to move the needle IMO. The huge reason Iowa has been successful on the offensive end for almost 10 years is Fran’s system. I just don’t see much difference between X and Perkins in Woodson’s system. Teams are just going to pack the paint and instead of Cupps being wide open….it will be Perkins. Now, maybe Woodson changes his system? Ok…that might change things. But a line up of Perkins, Tucker, MM, MR, and a big might be a worse 3PT shooting team than this year.

We are going in circles… lol Yes, he struggled defensively sometimes….but it was the offensive end is where it really killed IU. It wasn’t that he turned the ball over… it was because HE COULDNT SHOOT.

What is Iowa’s offensive efficiency the last 8 years? Going to bet it has way more to do with Fran than Perkins. Take a look at what Perkins had around him at Iowa vs what he would have had at Indiana. You honestly think he puts up the same numbers?

Cupps didn’t turn the ball over either. Again, Perkins is a nice player, but IU will still need multiple guards with Perkins.

IU had the 83rd best defense according to KenPom. Which needs improvement…. IU had the 106th best offense…. I know what I would prioritize.

Perkins also played within Fran’s system. I doubt Perkins sees those numbers in Woodson’s system. The defense is nice, but again, my concern is MM at the 3 and MR at the 4 on defense.

If there are 2 bigs standing in the paint, going to be hard to get anything for guards going downhill. Also, won’t the defense just pack the paint without a threat from deep? Haven’t we already tried this?

I find it hard to believe that Perkins is going to go somewhere to come off the bench. Same with Tucker. So, you have 4 of the 5 starter spots filled with a Perkins commit. I’m fine with this if the last spot is a shooter…backed up by a shooter… with a shooter backing up Perkins

One that can shoot better than 29% from 3. Perkins is a healthy X…it will be a nice little pick up but a long way from solving the guard problem.

He would be absolutely perfect as a back up. Come in for MR when he gets in foul trouble. BUT…. It would be painful with Payne at the 5, MR at the 4, MM at the 3, Perkins at the 1, and Tucker at the 2. You think the lane is clogged now…. LOL

Throw in Perkins’s 29% from 3PT….how exactly is the 3PT shooting going to improve? Need more kids then these 2.

Yeah, I think the Tucker news got people excited. I also jumped to, if they are getting Tucker…that’s means we aren’t playing 2 bigs. But again… let’s take it one step at a time… lol
