I don't believe Dolson put all his eggs in one basketball on this one, despite what we've been told. I do believe he made an obligatory call to Stevens once Woodson's retirement was announced but don't believe it went much further than that. Poaching somebody like May, Drew, or Otzelberger was always going to be an uphill battle given the state of the program. Any other school that has missed the tournament more times than they've made it the last quarter century would be thrilled with a candidate list that included Brownell, McCollum, Collins, etc

Would DeVries take the Iowa job? He'd seem like a logical replacement for McDermott here whom I can't see coaching forever.
-
Hamilton was absolutely persuaded to step down and retire. They’ve been awful the last three years and he’s currently being sued by nearly a dozen former players over NIL issues. Obviously he earned a lot more grace than Woodson, but he was absolutely told his time was up. Either way, it’s all irrelevant. A coach hasn’t been announced because one hasn’t been hired, not because IU is doing Woodson a favor.
-
Who cares? Leonard Hamilton, who has been at Florida State a hell of a lot longer than Woodson has at IU, announced his retirement a month ago and Florida State hired and announced their new coach within 2 weeks. The reason nobody has been announced is because nobody has been hired.
-
This search is no different than any other search. Whoever IU is hiring is still coaching at another school and it won’t be announced until both IU’s season and whoever the new coach season has ended. Pretty standard stuff. Every job that has been filled so far has been with non-sitting head coaches. If BS was the guy and has been the guy all along it would have been leaked, if not outright confirmed. What does IU stand to gain by waiting to announce their coach if in fact they have one locked up?

With that crew…I’d probably join him.
-
Same minus the Kirkwood part, maybe. Don't need to be riling up any co-eds.
-
And if that's the case I would definitely explore Schertz down the road if the job happens to be open in the next couple of years. But 18-13, 11-7 in the A-10 doesn't scream "hire me". Had he done what he did at ISU last year at SLU then I probably change my mind. They will lose the programs all-time leading scorer in Jimmerson and I wouldn't be shocked if Swope and/or Avila explored some better NIL opportunities for their senior season.
-
Wade will be the biggest name hired this cycle.
-
I'm saying 18-13 at SLU isn't some novel success story. Rick Majerus won there. Jim Crews won 27 and 28 games there. Travis Ford won 20+ games 4 times in 8 years there. If Schertz can put together a couple of seasons where he's pushing 30 wins and winning A-10 titles, I'd move him up on my list if the job opens up 4-5 years down the road.

My brother, Chris Beard isn't coaching IU and I am fully confident in that based on what I shared the other day. He is a dirt bag and that's really the last thing I'm going to say about Chris Beard.
-
Will Wade and we won't have any issues for the next 20+ years.
-
Yes he's making fun of that Scott Tack account who is overtly racist and comments 99% negatively on any and everything IU related.
-
Some more context, SLU won 21 and 23 games two and three years ago. They lost 8/9 of their top players to the portal/graduation in Ford's last year and lost their best player (Sincere Parker now with Wade at McNeese St) midway through last year and was a big reason they finished 13-20. SLU has been a contender the last several years dating back to the Majerus years. Yes Schertz improved their overall record from the year prior but that was probably a given. I'm out on Schertz until he significantly elevates SLU, who has historically been a decent program.

He's not being falsely accused lol. A physical altercation happened between Beard and his then fiance, that's undisputable as neither party denies it. You seem to think that putting your hands on another person, let alone your fiance, because they broke your reading glasses is an appropriate response. It isn't and Texas agreed as much and fired him for-cause. He didn't even fight it. There's been other repeated patterns of behavior (that haven't warranted the police being called) that have surfaced any time a search firm tries to vet Beard. There is a reason why Louisville and Kentucky passed on him last season and why it appears IU is doing the same this year.
-
He hasn't. We were told a month ago that he wasn't candidate.
-
I read it. I was being nice when I said it was wishful thinking at best.
-
This is a really good perspective. There is a far better chance that someone like McCollum last 3-4 years than hangs a banner. When you hire a guy who has one complete season at the D1 level in any capacity with the expectations of "banners", you're going to fail more times than not. Cronin and McDermott will win you 20+ games, have you competing for B10 titles and subsequent protective seeds nearly every season. Get a top 4-5 seed every season and your chances of hanging the next banner increase drastically.
-
That's nothing more than wishful thinking.
-
Which top 25 team in a P5 conference does Stirtz start for?
-
Not with Pumper who is being disingenuous per usual. I can add you to that list as well.
-
I didn't say he wouldn't be a starter, holy f***** s***. Your case of the Monday's that bad?
-
JFC I didn't say he wasn't a good player. I said he's not a featured player or a best player on a team expected to contend for a B10 title. If your best player needs 14 shots to score 16 points against a team that's a 9 or a 10 seed, you're going to struggle most nights. He's a serviceable player that I would expect McCollum to bring over from Drake if he is hired, but not one I would expect him to build around. I think 6th man/Galloway type role as a starter is a good spot for him. If Bennett Stirtz is IU's best player next year, we're in trouble. Josh Schertz brought over two of the best players in the MVC last year to St Louis next year and they went 18-13 in the A10 this year.
-
Kansas State was 15-16 and Miami was 7-24. You're not contending for a B10 title is Bennett Stirtz is your best player. Not doing this anymore with you. He's good enough to compete at this level but he's not a starter or best player or whatever you keep inferring him as on a top 25 team in a P5 conference.
-
Drake has played one tournament caliber team all season (Vanderbilt) and arguably had his worst game. 16 points on 14 shots with 5 TO's. Nice player but he's not a feature guy on a B10 contending team.
