  1. Ok, so you're admittedly basing the expectations for next year on the allotment of money spent and not the actual quality of the player, further proving my point? You're going to have to overspend to put together a roster of 13-15 new faces. A wait and see approach with next years squad seems much more applicable.
  2. Uhh no. You've inferred that IU should make the tournament simply on payroll alone in multiple other posts. Reality, you have no clue how well these guys will perform up a level, with added expectations and pressure, etc Like I said in an earlier post, it's entirely possible that we way overspent. Nobody knows. That's why judging a first year coach who put together a brand new roster in less than a month is patently stupid.
  3. Same goes for the comments that start like this, "You don't need 2-3 years" or "With a $10 million payroll" There will be people on this board who place a definitive ceiling on DeVries after this season with however the year plays out.
  4. Being in danger or jeopardy of losing one's job. That simply did not apply to Hurley after his first two seasons.
  5. No he wasn't lol, he didn't start to feel the heat until after his 4th season when he hadn't yet won a tournament game. Stop it.
  6. Or you can just simply go back and read page 1...either way works for me.
  7. I've already responded to that question earlier today, and quoted the posts that I interpreted to have that meaning. This thread is 4 pages long and something you should easily be able to navigate.
  8. Because nobody on this board has the authority to do so lol. But I've read plenty of posts, today alone, that suggest the process should begin in the event the tournament is missed next year. You don't have to outright say it to imply it, Stu.
  9. Did Florida or UConn fire their coaches after their first year or two? Put them on any kind of hot seat? You're kind of making my point.
  10. More than fine to expect that...but what's the recourse if it doesn't happen? Fire him immediately? Scorching hot seat year 2? I'll use Louisville and Michigan because they're much closer peers to us today than a program like Kentucky...but was Louisville going to fire Pat Kelsey after 1 year? Would Michigan fans have been ready to blow it up....again...if May didn't make the tournament? Neither of those schools had preseason hype or much expectation.
  11. When it becomes patently clear that said coach has plateaued or reached his ceiling. It's impossible to tell that after a single season.
  12. Nobody disagrees that making the tournament in year 1 is some Herculean feat, rather DeVries shouldn't be coaching for his job in year 2 if it doesn't happen....which many have suggested should be the case. The last two title winning coaches didn't really start to hit the ground running until year 3. There is a process involved, especially at a school that has been largely irrelevant for the last 3 decades.
  13. Flip what narrative? IU is a has-been program in the eyes of everybody but this fanbase. That doesn't change overnight by simply making a 68 team tournament. IU has zero existing culture, zero existing foundation, and a brand that dies more and more each season. That isn't changing overnight no matter how much you want to will it in existence.
  14. Unless I interpreted these wrong, these sure seem like "Make the tournament or else" posts
  15. Golden didn't have a top 10 NIL budget when he started nor when he won the whole damn thing this year. What he did have however was time...time to do things his way on his timeline.
  16. I think making the tournament is more than doable, there's nothing wrong with expecting or wanting that. Firing a coach after year 1 of a 6 year contract who turned over the entire roster however is completely asinine. Who cares what IU's budget is? It doesn't mean or guarantee a damn thing. The headache of trying to get 13-15 new faces (and now millionaires) to gel in a single season is far greater than than an established coach with an established program making a 68 team tournament. For all we know, we entirely overpaid on the roster. Outside Tucker DeVries and Sisley, I hadn't heard of a single kid on the current roster until a week or two ago and they're now all making 7+ figures. I want to see DeVries lay some groundwork and start fostering and harboring a solid basketball culture in year 1 far more than I want him to see him be a 9 or 10 seed in the tournament. You're not going to erase 30 years of futility overnight. Once people stop looking at it that way, the faster and smoother this process goes.
  17. Of course DD can win right away, that isn't what is being said though.
  18. Or what? Introduce our 5th coach in 11 seasons?
  19. Have to have rim protection, Bailey isn't that. And I wouldn't say IU is overly athletic either. Miles is probably the only guy I would consider a plus athlete. I think we're highly skilled in multiple departments, but you need a level of size and athleticism to make a run in the tournament.
  20. I know he's been rumored to Cincinnati but I think IU could win out if comes down to us and them due to IU being able to offer substantially more. All bets are off with Duke though.
  21. Wouldn't hate it in spurts. Bailey probably has a cap around 25-27 mpg anyway.
  22. A lot better defensively than Reneau. That said, not sure how he still has any eligibility left.
  23. Need a lot more size and athleticism before we start with those comparisons but I do like what coach has assembled so far.
  24. Just further reaffirms my opinion that there was something there with him. On to the next.
  25. Miles was a pretty high usage player last year. A) can he willing accept a lesser role playing alongside DeVries and Wilkerson B) is he efficient enough to be a consistent 3 and D player? He was a good, not great 3 point shooter on volume this past season. UNF was horrific defensively last year as a unit, but appears he may possess some quality individual defensive traits. Definitely an intriguing prospect with multiple years of eligibility remaining
