Encouraging read. He touched on a couple of things that have been debated here. 1) is the role of agents and NIL/Rev sharing in getting players, and 2) talks about IUs commitment in the NIL era heavily implying we’re serious players. Now let’s hope most of our problems are just roster construction. Because maybe we have a real answer there.

Yes. That would put us at 21 wins and likely add at least one more Quad 1 win. In a scenario where there are few bid stealers I think that gets us in. I think minny, osu and one btt win has us in the conversation in the above scenario. But I’m not sure we end up on the right side of the bubble with just that.

That’s not going to save Devries. Woody made it 2/3 years and was fired midway through year 4 when we still had a shot at his 3rd tourney.

Currently 42nd on Kenpom. 39th in O and 60th in D. Almost the exact same profile as last year’s team if you flip the O and D around. I’m still mystified as to why we had to eliminate everyone from that roster, mostly just Reneau though. If he’s on this team we’re likely closer to 20 wins and in the tourney. He’s the exact type of automatic bucket in the post you could go to in order to break those late, long scoring droughts we go through.

This never works in basketball anyways. It’s not football. I’m not sure Devries Xs and Os are all that bad anyways. It mostly seems like implementation. He’s not a very good in-game coach. And that to me has always been as much of an art as it is science. Hard to get an assistant to shore that up.

All the stories during the playoff run were about how much we were spending and how we bought the team, so much so Cig had to publicly rebut that in a presser. But that’s exactly what I’m talking about, only in reverse for basketball. People see winning and assume big spending. For basketball people see losing and assume a lack of money. All the circumstantial evidence around the basketball program points to us being a big spender—most offseason articles had us comfortably in the top 10. In fact, it’s highly unlikely Devries himself would leave another P5 program for Indiana if he weren’t guaranteed a top level spend. He’s simply doing a bad job.

People seem to be conflating not spending wisely with not spending. We’re paying a top 20 coaching salary. We’ve always had a top 20 recruiting and travel budget. We pay our assistants near the top of the range, and we just went and pulled a respected guy out of the NBA to be GM. It would be really really odd if the one thing that really matters IU wasn’t at least in the top 20.

Kids aren’t taking those calls. Agents are. And they’re trying to get the most money. Pope made the S16 last year and had more cachet than CDD, but everyone here was pretty happy when IU outbid UK for his services. You said it yourself that IU and CDD got Bailey by paying more than Self or Miller would.

We clearly do. It’s certainly possible. It is simply no longer probable. In other words, before tonight the computers had us in. Tomorrow they mostly won’t.

Most interesting IU basketball ever is, is during a coaching search.

We weren’t going to win the last two no matter what. I’d rather have not been non-competitive both games and had a 50yr record loss at Purdue, but whatever… I think we win easily tonight and everyone feels good about us having control of our own destiny with winnable games left and should make the tourney. If we barely scrape by with a win I think we’re still out of Archie territory and at least in “Mike Woodson…will they or won’t they..” territory.

The initial comparison with Sisley was around potential transfers. Ware and Newell both transferred after their minute drops. I can’t find a Tre “Morgan”. If AI in all its genius means Tre Norman at Marquette, then he hasn’t transfer but he’s never found consistent minutes or production in 3 years there. Let’s hope Sisley doesn’t go down any of those paths.

Yea, there’s something missing there. They have top end talent and have come up short too often. They did beat UK, but Kentucky was struggling at the time.
