That's basically the definition of a targeting call. -

I also don't think you can use career metrics for X when he was nonexistent last year. Sure, if you got the best version of X the trade-off might be neutral. But if that had been the case we would have solidly been in the tournament and a good candidate to win a game or two. -
Wrong thread. What does that have to do with complaining about dominant big men anyway? You'd rather have an inferior stretch big?
-
The national championship just featured 2 bigs that meet this description.

I still have this shirt in a box somewhere. It was about 40lbs ago but I bet I could squeeze into it for such an occasion. -

Respectfully, you can't complain about getting a guy that averaged more PPG as a freshman in the PAC12 than another guy did as a junior in the MVC. Yes, his % wasn't great this year but he was 33% before his late season skid. Freshmen making a jump in efficiency in their sophomore year is hardly a rarity. -
Not seeing many smirks or head shakes this half. Weird.

This would be the worst perimeter shooting team any of us have seen in IU history. -
All of us next year while IU claws their way to 10 wins

I am super relieved the staff was able to lock down Leal with an increased NIL package. Important to keep the bottom from totally falling out of this thing.
-
The challenge with that is you're asking kids with multiple years of eligibility to commit to a coaching staff that is effectively on a year to year contract. Another reason the "one more year" stance with Woodson is dumb.

Posting this the morning after a Selection Sunday where your name wasn't called is certainly a choice. Just asking to be memed to death by other fanbases.

If Dusty beats UCONN, this board might explode.

2023-2024 MBB Big Ten Tournament
FightFor6 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This game is fixed. -
The absolute nightmare here is that there's a world where they find just enough pieces in the portal + bring back Reneau and Mac and squeeze into the tourney as a 9-10 seed. If the BOT didn't want him out after this year, they won't after a tourney appearance. Then you're staring down a 5th year with a 67 yr old coach and a likely full roster turnover at that point.

2023-2024 MBB Big Ten Tournament

The environment at these games is nap inducing. Only noise is coming from cheerleaders and squeeky sneakers. -
Didn't Mathurin and Nembhard come to a game this year?
-
Maybe we meet in the middle here lol. I admittedly don't know anything about XB personally. Have read the feedback on him in high school like everyone else. But I'm a sucker for high potential and the one thing Woodson has done well is maximize his bigs output the last 3 years.
-
I'm all in on this one with the upside. Think you would need to get a 2nd big body as insurance in case this year proves to not be a fluke.
-
I just think you can get 2 guys that can be good shooters and provide a more well-rounded impact to the game. These two averaged 6 and 3 ppg in the same conference. Expecting them to come in and be anything but a 9th-10th man is setting yourself up for a rough season. Would we even be talking about them if they weren't from Indiana?
-
I'm tempted to root for Essegian and Goode both starting in the backcourt next year so we can finally put this "Indiana guy" nonsense to rest from multiple fronts.
-
It's almost like there are varying viewpoints from different individuals and sometimes the same individual at different times.
-
I'm sure they'll just round up and not be able to tell a difference.

And the odds of those mercenaries fitting together is slim to none because the head coach isn't the one establishing an effective system and identifying the right targets. He's allowing multiple assistants to make their own judgement on what will work and they all have unique perspectives. That leads to a mishmash of talent that will underperform as a unit. Even in the unlikely scenario he scrapes together enough to improve and squeak back into the tourney, you're back here next year asking whether a 8-10 seed after year 4 for a 66 yr old "win now" coach is good enough.
