  1. SHU fighting like hell for their chance to go dancing. Tied with UConn 2 mins left
  2. Yep, for sure. Not as bare as literally 0 players and a lot of money tied up with seniors not producing as expected. And seems very unlikely we need to set aside much (if any) NIL for retention raises. Maybe Sisley. I think I saw it posted here somewhere that our Euro guys are actually very low cost. If that's the case, and they're content with the development plan DDV laid out for them, I think they'd be worth retaining. We have 3 open spots, so to get to 5, two need to transfer. If the Euros really are cheap enough, you probably free up more NIL parting ways with Drake and Harris. Harris might be able to do something for us when healthy, but who knows. Drake probably isn't making much NIL, but Ristic also has been basically invisible this year. Either way it's probably not much, but every dollar counts. Very curious how it shakes out but confident that the money can be put to much better use this time around. Hopefully some underclassmen in the mix.
  3. I think the main difference with Marquette is Shaka literally didn't go to the portal at all for this team, whereas for us, the majority of the contributors on next year's team have to come from the portal. If we get 5 guys, and they're the right guys, could be a good team. Hopefully we are aggressive and get some studs. And hopefully Carr can help identify some good value players with multiple years of eligibility.
  4. On the bright side, the lack of winning is probably making it easier for Chris to avoid beer. One of my all time favorite CBB tweets
  5. Hearing Carr say the same principle applies in the portal as free agency where you have to overpay to land talent, and saying the program has relied way too much on the portal the past two years, and that it will take a few years to get things where they want it, make me think we're unlikely to add more than 5 players in the offseason. 7 max IMO, which is still a lot, but seems unlikely given the above IMO.
  6. But I was told he was the closest thing to a slam dunk, sure thing hire IU could have made last year... lmao
  7. St John's didn't score a field goal for the final 17:28 against UConn lol
  8. That jives a lot with this: Great post, interesting idea. Yesterday was an egregious L, no two ways about it. But before the game, a lot of people were relatively hopeful about DDV's abilities as a coach. Roster construction is obviously problem #1 and Carr should help with that. But it's not the only problem. Shot selection needs to be seriously addressed. We can't go a quarter of the game without scoring a basket multiple times. Thats my main gripe with DDV's tenure so far. Lack of adjustments in some games kinda concerning (like letting Enright switch onto Martinelli yesterday). But coaches can improve and hopefully he learns. I haven't fully bought the idea that DDV's demeanor can't work here, but A) he doesn't seem the type to work a room very well - don't love that for NIL or recruiting B) I can't get over him not getting a T at the end of the game yesterday when the outcome was basically decided. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around a CBB coach not being the face of their program but in this era, having that kind of infrastructure around the HC so they can stay focused on coaching is an exciting idea. IU has limitless potential in sports. We now know this to be a fact.
  9. Watch this be the year we win the BTT lol
  10. I would like for Miami (OH) to lose one of their next three games, please.
  11. Brother, there's no chance he leaves any earlier than year 3 and in all likelihood year 4... buckle up
  12. We are definitely paying top of market coaching staff salary in football. DeVries makes about the same as Golden. In the upper tier of salaries behind the current big guys like Self, Cal, Hurley, Izzo We may not be top 20 in football NIL. According to most sources, IU is one of the bigger spenders in basketball NIL. Hard to quantify exactly where, but end of the day, it's a 8 figure payroll and not that many college basketball programs can afford that. We can and should expect to be good in both sports. Money is not an excuse. More of it just always helps. IUBB needs a lot of help.
  13. Well, his buyout for this year is 10M, so we can spend the NIL budget on that and give our new coach a whopping $0 :) For general info, it decreases 2M every season for the next two years before dropping to $3M in the 4th year of the deal.
  14. We can all be disappointed with the results, of course. He's going to be here for at least 2-3 more seasons and IUBB still has a rabid fanbase, despite IUFB being the new top dog in the athletic department. Football winning a title will generate a ton of revenue for the AD and excitement for the whole fanbase, including and especially basketball IMO. Cig's already got his NIL to a level where he can win championships. Roster for next year is set. At a certain point, giving all surplus investment to football is a diminishing returns situation when your flagship program has sucked for the better part of three decades. All I am saying is I take no issue with the AD shaking the couch cushions to find some spare change that will equip the basketball coach to better compete in the arms race for talent. Wouldn't think that's a controversial view on an IUBB board.
  15. Would Hoiberg or Collins come here? Lol, I sorta doubt it
  16. Lol, why? I want Indiana basketball to be good, don't you? You even said... "it's not my money" ... It's not mine, either! Get someone to cut a phat check for basketball and keep the hopium on standby.
  17. Then expect the same results in Y1 as in Y4 and wait for 3 years until we hire the next coach, I guess? Football needs to eat first. You know every dollar invested with Cig is spent well. Still, people go crazy about IUBB. They want a better product. You gotta keep up with the market or you're hamstrung. Like you said, not my money. Coaching needs to get better. Financial commitment needs to continue growing or you lose ground relative to others.
  18. Hilariously, I'm pretty sure people specifically said we will know this staff is different if they take care of those 3 teams at home this year. 0/3 is brutal (even though Nebraska is downright good and Iowa is no slouch this year)
  19. If that is the case, fans should adjust their basketball expectations accordingly. It's still year 1... Dolson hired him, he's his guy. People still (somehow) care deeply about IUBB. He should try to help the coach as any AD would and a big part of that will be funds. Yes, we're already spending near the top. It's an arms race with no rules. You always need more. Football needs to eat first, obviously. But basketball needs a bigger slice of a bigger pie, if it can be had. Maybe that shouldn't be the case because the "right" coach would be able to win with the current resources. Even so... See the second sentence of this post.
  20. Ironically I don't think he ever coached Tucker on a team before college. To me, it looks more like a career assistant still learning to be the head guy.
  21. We're pretty comparable basketball programs since like 2014, results wise.
  22. I've been patient all year with this team. I am the son of a coach so I tend to be forgiving of coaches. This loss was egregious. Year 1 was a pass/fail course and if we don't win out, we will not pass the course. Tonight makes the offseason much more of an uphill climb than it had to be. Yes, new team 1-13, delays in hiring staff, etc... it's fair to expect making the field of 64/68 in year 1. Coaches can absolutely still find success without making it in year 1. But it's tougher to excuse in the current landscape where we've got a more than competitive budget. Even with all the "excuses" (some may prefer "context") we should've been able to A) assemble a better roster than this B) with this roster, performed better this season. We had a halftime lead vs Kentucky, up 13 against Nebraska and Northwestern, blew both. USC very winnable game we didn't get done. Overall, the margins are thin in CBB. A few things break differently and it's a different story... But it is what it is. They better be working the portal connections and have something serious in year 2.
  23. Ryan Carr... we're all looking at you buddy. Please save us.
  24. Tucker loves shooting logo 3s except for when there's 1.1 seconds left and we're inbounding from the backcourt? He tries to draw a foul with 1.1? Can't recall the last time I've seen a team piss away a game so badly.
