  1. Ehhh. Calipari has the better college resume undeniably but he's been at it for decades. His only true success has come via a generational college player in Anthony Davis. Underachieved massively with Boogie Cousins and John Wall at UK. Didn't win a title with Derrick Rose... tons of NBA players over the years. Doing less with more talent than most coaches could dream of... they lost to Oakland this year and Cal was totally useless on the sidelines. He's no X's and O's mastermind... not to say Woody is either. But if we're just talking coaching ability and not resume, you can reasonably make the case it's at least "close"
  2. Refs could blow that whistle on half the plays as you say. Inserting yourself into the game - decisively - at that moment does not sit right with me, regardless of whether it was a technically correct call. We can agree to disagree. Paige went to the ball too early and Edwards did chicken wing + drag her leg. She was not set. Ultimately it's on UConn for letting themselves get in that position after blowing a lead. They also had a chance to get a rebound with a second remaining and a timeout to advance the ball. In any game, you can point to all sorts of things that would have changed the outcome if they went differently. In a tightly contested national semi final, with 10 seconds left, blowing your whistle on a play you could call half the game to basically ensure one team wins and rip away the others best shot... just a bitterly anticlimactic ending to a great game. Would've preferred to see them play through, as they do most of the game. Different strokes for different folks.
  3. UConn got totally screwed IMO. Wtf kind of call is that with 10 seconds left. Choosing to believe their womens team lost so that their mens team could get it done, thus denying PUeww a title and maintaining the natural order of the universe
  4. Nope just gas. Everyone feels full of hot air sometimes :) I do all the time! Maybe I should lay off the beans...
  5. I think I had too many beans with dinner
  6. Anyone else watching UConn vs Iowa? Anyone seen multiple Iowa games... can you always hear their coach so clearly on every possession or is it just the mics tonight? Lol... very... distinct
  7. Wish him well (unless he's playing against us). I think we are going to be VERY pleased with Bryson Tucker next year. Not going to speculate on the specifics of his role for now. But I absolutely look forward to watching him play here.
  8. Hope you're right... I fear the worst. Not that I think they'll become championship caliber, but a formidable conference opponent.
  9. Sometimes I think I may be too doom and gloom about IUBB/CMW. Then this board reminds me why I was typically more of a "sunshine pumper" before this past season lol. I'm not happy with the state of our program but calling a McDAA overrated, likely without even seeing him play a full game, just to discredit the staff and delegitimize any reason for optimism/hope... dang those grapes are sour. Plenty of valid reasons to gripe with our staff... why manufacture them.
  10. Yeah I don't disagree. Tucker is a top-30 guy though, so going by this distinction, the original point IndyHoops was making about IU's staff not having the track record for a guy like Tucker, is just incorrect. I agree you'd probably have a longer list of the lower rated guys we brought in who have not developed here. I think that has a lot to do with A) scouting/evaluating them incorrectly B) not setting them up for success in our system or giving them a fair opportunity to earn time/play through mistakes C) having the NBA-philosophy of trying to just land the most talent you can and figure the rest out later... leading to guys playing out of position, awkward rotations, etc. We have an identity in terms of how we play, but we don't really recruit to it very well IMO. To be clear, I am not suggesting Indiana is a great developmental basketball program right now in any way. For top players trying to make the NBA ASAP, I think it can be an appealing destination, which was the point with respect to Tucker.
  11. I agree there is a difference between winning CBB games and developing guys into pros but... that is a totally different conversation than your statements that IU does not develop players or have the track record for a kid like Tucker.
  12. If anything I'd argue UConn and Purdue are successful because they run systems that fit their players well (hide weaknesses too)... not that they're so far and away better at developing players into pros.
  13. Can you show me the deal they signed and full terms? I'm going to guess if he felt that this staff did not have a credible chance of developing him/getting him to the pros, he would have gone somewhere else, even if they were paying less. 500-600k vs 750k is not such a huge difference that it negates all other considerations. Still a ton of money especially at that age. Would you take a job at a company you knew you had no growth potential in AND was also a sinking ship in its market for just a slightly higher salary?
  14. Idk... not one to defend Woodson or his system. But, JHS was a one and done (wasn't projected that way coming in to my knowledge)... I think they score from similar spots on the court. You may say that him exceeding expectations has nothing to do with Woody's ability to develop talent and everything to do with the fact he was forced to play big minutes early. You may be right about that. But he was still playing in Woodson's system, which enabled him to showcase enough to go in the first round. He also coached Melo with the Knicks, another player you may say Tucker could resemble. And that system worked pretty well for Melo. In any case, Bryson Tucker clearly does not agree with the sentiment of your post or he wouldn't have signed on. He could've been paid a lot at plenty of places. IMO a 4/5 star like Tucker is not going to set himself up for failure/willingly go into what he perceives as a "bad situation" for him just for a big NIL deal...
  15. Absolutely fantastic game. Two teams that deserved to be in the big dance. Two great seasons regardless of tonight's outcome. Nice to see Shaheen pick Avila's chin up at the end there in the handshake line.
  16. Yeah, totally agree. I get that it's their offense but you've got to have better situational awareness/discipline as a player to understand with a 3 point lead and 22 seconds on the shot clock with a 1:20 left in the game, that the clock is your friend, and work for a better look (manufactured two ideally) or at least get the same shot with less time on the clock by moving the ball. It could have been a dagger but it also completely flipped the game on it's head. 6 point swing. You could see the disappointment on his face at the end sadly
  17. Dawes from SHU is what we thought/wished we were getting in Xavier Johnson.
  18. Dumb shot by Avila there.
  19. Those projections seem pretty spot on with what I'd expect. Thanks for sharing, cool formula... I'll have to check out PC Stellar some time
  20. He's just a sophomore and this was his first season starting. I think based on the improvement he made last offseason, you can assume a similar amount of progress heading into his junior year. I agree that passing out of the post/having better awareness in general is something he will need to be working on. That said, I'm not concerned that he will get there... sometimes we talk about wanting 4 year players, but are quick to call them a problem if they're not a totally well rounded player after 2 seasons. I don't see how you can view Reneau as anything other than a huge net positive considering he is maybe elite at his primary skillset (post scoring) and still has potential in other important areas. Far from a perfect player, got a long way to go... hate watching him muscle it up in the trees and force shots instead of passing out... but still recognize/appreciate how valuable he is, especially to our program right now.
  21. Both of these teams would have been soooo much more worthy of getting to the NCAA tournament than UVA for example. Probably a handful of others. But UVA for sure.
  22. You were too busy paddling the older boys right? (JK obviously)
