  1. Nobody is wanting him fired for this in isolation. It's just fodder to support the already existing narratives. Until he at least lands a class of portal transfers, he's not going to get any benefit of the doubt especially in this thread. He could end up putting together a great portal haul ("could") and have a great year next year... it's totally technically possible. Why on Earth people would believe that right now when we have half a roster, idk... you're not going to find them in this thread either. And landing a commit or two because he played golf with some big money guy is not going to prove anybody right about anything or require anyone to "spin" anything... if anything it's a sad statement of where things are at for IU and the game of CBB.
  2. Knowing when to quit is key, brother
  3. Don't care if he golfs, smokes a cigar, drinks some wine. Do care if he doesn't produce results (he hasn't). Don't care if it gets circulated on the internet and people pile on. Personally doesn't move me that much, but understand the reactions. I'd bet we'll hear a story about Hurley or someone on staff facetiming McNeeley from the stadium tomorrow at some point. Obviously he still has a game, so he's not golfing yet (actually he's on record that he never golfs... doesn't mean others can't and be successful coaches, though). I wonder how much golfing Matt Painter does... honestly curious. Don't hear about/see it, but not looking for it either. Does Woody golf more than the average coach or does it just get photographed and shared more often on social media because people are more pumped to be playing with the IUBB HC than the average CBB HC? God, I dream of the day we're talking about IUBB playing this time of year instead of what our staff is or isn't doing.
  4. My mind can't compute this until I see Calipari in red at a press conference saying Woo Pig Sooie
  5. I probably overestimate UConn. In their only 3 losses, their opponent shot over 50% from three. Of course, how the game is referee'd will play a big part of things, including the narrative afterwards most likely. How Hurley uses Clingan and Johnson will be interesting. I look for Samson Johnson to do what he does best and be disruptive... I like Castle, Karaban, Newton, and Diarra vs the rest of Purdue's group and think that UConn's got a lot more in their tool box in terms of how they can win games. I do think it will be competitive through the first half, maybe even first 30 minutes. Painter will probably try to mimic the Creighton gameplan vs UConn where they found success, but things are different at this point in the season... I'm glad we don't have to wait long to find out.
  6. My gut says UConn by 12+. Wouldn't be shocked if its closer to 20. I knocked on wood after I typed that so it doesn't count as a jinx.
  7. I think people are just fed up and have been apathetic for a while. Maybe the difference this time is Purdue playing for a title while the administration does nothing. Michigan wins a football title, OSU responds in a massive way. IU admin seems non-responsive. Fans wonder what they're supporting anymore and why... People are jaded because their expectations are not where they want them to be and hope is, by and large, in the gutter.
  8. Maybe I'm being too literal but if anyone is actually curious why, I believe it's because these crews are graded on their performance each game by referee associations and want to be careful about doing it by the book especially in a very visible game like the Final Four. I'm just a guy on the internet though so what do I know
  9. I'm rooting for UConn/NC State hard. Grew up on Bob Sr./Danny Hurley HS hoops... don't care for Purdue at all, especially this smug team. Personally I don't understand how IU fans living in Indiana among PU fans would be rooting for PU... like signing up to get a pie thrown in your face every season for the foreseeable future
  10. Lmao. You gotta respect the hell out of a guy like that.
  11. Sure. For what it's worth, I would have not been mad at all if they called a foul at the end of the ISU vs SHU game, that second 3 point attempt was definitely a foul. And that was actually on the shot to win the game. My issue in this case is mainly that you could call that on half the plays, but don't, so doing it within 10 seconds of the final buzzer... before the team even has a chance to get into their action, feels like the ref taking the decision into their own hands. It looked worse because the Iowa player also exaggerated her head tilt and is tiny. All in all UConn never should have let it get to the point where refs could influence the outcome. They were winning most of the first half
  12. If you were watching the game live and in the moment, as many people who had an interest were, you'd understand the reaction to that call at that particular time in the game. Great back and forth all second half, then with a chance to come back and win with 10 seconds left after leading most of the game, one team gets called for a violation that could be called half the time. It felt like the floor was ripped out beneath them and they didn't get a chance to play... a cheap ending to a great game on a (technically) correct call that came at a decisive time. If you don't see how one could take issue with the call, okay.....
  13. Ehhh. Calipari has the better college resume undeniably but he's been at it for decades. His only true success has come via a generational college player in Anthony Davis. Underachieved massively with Boogie Cousins and John Wall at UK. Didn't win a title with Derrick Rose... tons of NBA players over the years. Doing less with more talent than most coaches could dream of... they lost to Oakland this year and Cal was totally useless on the sidelines. He's no X's and O's mastermind... not to say Woody is either. But if we're just talking coaching ability and not resume, you can reasonably make the case it's at least "close"
  14. Refs could blow that whistle on half the plays as you say. Inserting yourself into the game - decisively - at that moment does not sit right with me, regardless of whether it was a technically correct call. We can agree to disagree. Paige went to the ball too early and Edwards did chicken wing + drag her leg. She was not set. Ultimately it's on UConn for letting themselves get in that position after blowing a lead. They also had a chance to get a rebound with a second remaining and a timeout to advance the ball. In any game, you can point to all sorts of things that would have changed the outcome if they went differently. In a tightly contested national semi final, with 10 seconds left, blowing your whistle on a play you could call half the game to basically ensure one team wins and rip away the others best shot... just a bitterly anticlimactic ending to a great game. Would've preferred to see them play through, as they do most of the game. Different strokes for different folks.
  15. UConn got totally screwed IMO. Wtf kind of call is that with 10 seconds left. Choosing to believe their womens team lost so that their mens team could get it done, thus denying PUeww a title and maintaining the natural order of the universe
  16. Nope just gas. Everyone feels full of hot air sometimes :) I do all the time! Maybe I should lay off the beans...
  17. I think I had too many beans with dinner
  18. Anyone else watching UConn vs Iowa? Anyone seen multiple Iowa games... can you always hear their coach so clearly on every possession or is it just the mics tonight? Lol... very... distinct
  19. Wish him well (unless he's playing against us). I think we are going to be VERY pleased with Bryson Tucker next year. Not going to speculate on the specifics of his role for now. But I absolutely look forward to watching him play here.
  20. Hope you're right... I fear the worst. Not that I think they'll become championship caliber, but a formidable conference opponent.
  21. Sometimes I think I may be too doom and gloom about IUBB/CMW. Then this board reminds me why I was typically more of a "sunshine pumper" before this past season lol. I'm not happy with the state of our program but calling a McDAA overrated, likely without even seeing him play a full game, just to discredit the staff and delegitimize any reason for optimism/hope... dang those grapes are sour. Plenty of valid reasons to gripe with our staff... why manufacture them.
  22. Yeah I don't disagree. Tucker is a top-30 guy though, so going by this distinction, the original point IndyHoops was making about IU's staff not having the track record for a guy like Tucker, is just incorrect. I agree you'd probably have a longer list of the lower rated guys we brought in who have not developed here. I think that has a lot to do with A) scouting/evaluating them incorrectly B) not setting them up for success in our system or giving them a fair opportunity to earn time/play through mistakes C) having the NBA-philosophy of trying to just land the most talent you can and figure the rest out later... leading to guys playing out of position, awkward rotations, etc. We have an identity in terms of how we play, but we don't really recruit to it very well IMO. To be clear, I am not suggesting Indiana is a great developmental basketball program right now in any way. For top players trying to make the NBA ASAP, I think it can be an appealing destination, which was the point with respect to Tucker.
