Whoever is left on this staff after whatever "shake ups" occur... had better have some DAMN good portal connections. Christ it's like they try to disappoint us.

I'm just not ready to let go of this thread and dream yet...

No IU games for me next year and probably not for a while

I will always root for IU because it's my alma mater and a special place to me. But I will have to watch other teams more/instead from here on out. I will be loyal to IU but I will need to put my fan interest into a program that actually wants to be competitive

Note from Trilly... we seem to have pretty good sources around here! ;) Seems as though QB will not stand in Dolson's way. "Unclear" if the BOT will have issues with Pearl. I know our favorite new poster this morning would like us to believe that SD and QB would never play such muddy games with each other... but if we don't get Pearl, will seem pretty clear that was Quinn's way of sticking it to Scott over something he didn't agree about. Or that this whole "holier than thou" concept (which is not how I would necessarily describe it) is a real, limiting factor in their ability to field a truly competitive program. We'll see what happens though... Trilly still seems to think it's a possibility. But by all accounts he is playing catch up with Chris and Jerry as of now.

Could be completely wrong but I personally would be sort of surprised if Woody were actually there. An impromptu meeting right after the season ends with the BOT (I assume) sounds like it would be around discussing his future and potential replacements. He may have an opportunity to present his case. That may all have to occur prior to the meeting. I'd imagine there will be reports that need read outs, etc... I just doubt he'd be there especially with the BTT looming. Again we're going off no real info here, but I'd think if you're calling together the "big boys and girls" you need to have a more productive/detailed conversation/plan of action than just letting go of Woody and starting a search or keeping him and seeing how he does. I'd think they'd spend at least a decent amount of time walking through Scott's alternatives, which is where I imagine QB/other Trustees who have concerns about Pearl's past will block him. My understanding is that Dolson as the AD, should not get any flak from BOT (beyond normal financial and ethical scrutiny) on a sports related decision. They would have input on a hiring decision for a pivotal role to the university. That's why I think they'd spend the majority of that time talking replacements, not what retaining him looks like. Anyhow that's enough hot air from me.

Seems to me that May will be the compromise candidate. 100% speculation but if Dolson and Buckner don't see eye to eye, Buckner won't get in the way of Dolson removing Woody. But he will use his influence to block Dolson's supposed top target. The Tuesday conversation with big boys and girls at the table sit down to hash out: is he staying, is he going? If he's staying, we get a short statement of confidence after the season ends. If he's not, he "retires" when the season ends and May is the guy who everyone could get on board with. Just ramblings from a guy on a message board! Know absolutely nothing lol

Think that and Jerry's posts have kept this group humming all day lol

Meh... taking FAU from where they were to how they're performing now, is not what I'd consider a "slow build" even over 5 years. If we bring May in, he will presumably need more time to get things rolling than Pearl, but I think we'd see plenty of progress much sooner than that. Yes pressure would be higher here but that's where his familiarity with IU could serve him well... plus he's a competitor, pressure is part of the business. Hopefully that's part of their "standard" assessment in the interview process (as if IU is that organized...). He will also have oodles more cash at his disposal plus a way bigger brand. If we hire May I will be elated that we're moving on, fairly disappointed it's not Pearl, but not very upset that Dusty ended up being the guy. Basically... I still want and feel like Pearl should be the priority target but I am happy with both options. No matter how you see it, for the most part except for literally 3 people, it seems everyone can agree either would be preferable to a 4th year of the status quo

Right. I think it boils down to what risks you see with each and how likely to occur/impactful those risks are... then you make the call based on your comfort level. Kind of like a baseball manager trying to decide whether to hit for a single or for the fences (maybe a bad analogy). For me, with where IUBB is, I'd rather the sure thing to help turn things around and build a foundation right now. But that doesn't mean Dusty can't also do that, then be here for 15-20 years where we are dominant.

The upside potential if Dusty works out here would make him the clear cut best candidate on that criteria IMO. But you can only know that with the benefit of hindsight. The potential downsides, though, would leave us right back where we are today. With Pearl you can be relatively sure you'll be in a better place and have good options for the next hire too. The kind of hire Dusty would be right now, is what we tried for in Archie after Crean. Please do not confuse what I'm saying - I think May, having built FAU from basically nothing, is a way better candidate than Archie. But we KNOW Pearl can do this job at this level and do it well. IMO he can meet the moment that we are in right now, better than anyone else who may be up for the task (as far as we are aware). That is why I would hire Pearl over May today, but they are very much options 1A and 1B to me

I can live with this. I would love Pearl, but I do think Dusty May is also an appealing candidate and he could be here for a very long time if things work out. Change has to happen this offseason... I will be happy with either of the two presumed leaders at this point. History definitely suggests it's unlikely people in positions of power with objections to Pearl's history will get over them any time soon. All aboard the Dusty train...

He was only ever HC for 6 seasons at Dayton which is a well-oiled machine from a basketball program perspective. He had 5 20+ win seasons, an EE, and three first weekend exits. He was associated with major openings because people assumed he'd be like his brother Sean. They are totally different people. The fact he was not a good personality fit should have been identified during interviews. Compare that to someone like Dan Hurley who had 17 years as a HC under his belt before going to UConn. When a struggling program, like UConn post Ollie or IU right now, is making the next coaching hire... they need to be sure of what they are getting. Archie did not have the personal attributes or coaching track record for him to have been considered a great hire in my book. It is easy to understand why the decision was made, but I wasn't very excited about it at the time and neither were others, so I'd hardly call it revisionist history to be fair.

Archie was literally the flavor of the month. He had one deep run at a long time basketball school. Lots of better resumes at that time

Would an actual Trustee really sign up for this message board with basically their real identity? Weren't we just wondering the other day about if they actually care/read/hear about what goes on in these forums lol. There is no way IMO there is any announcement about the new coach until their current team's season is over. Could be an announcement on Woody's future shortly after we lose in the BTT
