RMK gave a talk last night in B-town and stated he called Donoher about Miller; Donoher gave him an endorsement and RMK told the crowd to "get behind him that we would enjoy his type of basketball."

I share your exact sentiment rebel. I wasn't around for '40 and '53, so any older posters on here correct me; but to me; RMK established IU as a top 5 blue blood forever. If you look at RMK strictly as a basketball coach and what he brought to the game; he is one of the greatest ever to coach at any level. So to me, if he is endorsing Archie; I think that speaks volumes to Miller's ability. Tough, hard-nosed defense; on 1/2 court O sets- screening/ cutting/ working for good shots, running and looking for easy buckets BASED on your D pressure.. sounds like Archie/ IU hoops to me..

I was 17. 87 tourney.. LSU game- running up and down the street screaming like an idiot.. UNLV- other than the Natty, the favorite game in my lifetime.. Bobby beat Tark at his own game. 3/30/87- Natty wore me out- so much back and forth-- Smart's shot goes down.. my friend and I just literally sitting on the floor, mouths open, not sure what we just saw!! Just watched a clip with Fish making the call- brought chills and slight tear to my middle aged eye. Hope we get back there! Where were you? What do you remember?

Many, many less turnovers, intensity on defense for 2 halves, win the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half, a coach that gets in the refs ear, with a lead stomp on the opponents hopes of getting back into the game= do the things that help winning and make fewer mistakes than the opponent= better atmosphere!

Um.. no, top 5; along with the candy stripes, under 7 time out, 5 banners and Martha.. If it's insignificant, then why not leave it alone? I'm sure a lot of kids have dreams of going to the League; but few make it and I'm sure most of the top don't care about traditions, they just want the easiest, quickest path there.. I get that. But for the majority of players at a place like IU, those that don't make the NBA, those that play and earn their degree, the traditions become part of who they are. We'll just agree to disagree.

Then I would venture to say that likely many former players, majority of long time fans, former coaches, managers and the boosters have "lost touch with reality".... walk around SSAH and Cook. Look at the walls of Nick's. Reality is that TRADITION is a huge part of IU. Its part of the mystique that makes us unique. It's why IU has the resources for basketball that it does. It's an important reason why the top young coach in the country came here. It's a reason why former players have such a strong attachment and opinions. IU has one of the largest alumni bases in the country- I bet I can guess what most of them think. Start messing with the traditions, then we become Every Other Place U. No thanks.
