Game Thread: IUBB at Kansas Sat 12/17/22 Noon ESPN2

Same. It's the NFL and college hoops for me anymore. Don't have time/care about the other sports. Anyway, I like our chances today. Jalen is playing. Feel the home court advantage goes down a tiny bit with no students there. Seems like a good IU crowd is there. I still think Kansas pulls out a close one. However, if Indiana can pull this off, they would have defeated the two teams who played in the title game last year. Add the Xavier win and that would be a heck of a resume thus far. Let's get it done! -

That is huge in my books. You can argue he is our most valuable player in terms of what he brings..maybe 2nd to Trayce at worst. I don't think they lose to both Rutgers and Arizona if he plays. They split those games. -

Incredible games all day with College Hoops. None on the actual ESPN channel. I get it's bowl season..but c'mon. What a slap in the face to this sport. -

Amen. It feels so good to finally wake up and have a big IU game to look forward too. There haven't been many in the last 6 years. Credit to Coach Woodson for building a schedule. We as fans can get upset with how they play in these games, but I'd rather play Arizona and Kansas than the cupcakes they would play instead normally. I get teams have to play those games but a program like IU should have a non-conference schedule like this every year. I am greedy and wanted IU to win all 4 of them. I did say back in the preseason to split them and I'd be happy. I think the Xavier win is going to look really good in March. I have to think UNC will snap out of it. Arizona looks like the best team in the country. Kansas is Kansas. They are a top 20 team in a down year. -

Little surprised this game isn't earlier. I think they play at the same time next season. Students will most likely be gone. I feel at Allen and Assembly Hall the students are a huge part of their homecourt success. -
After Saturday there is not a lot of action until after the New Year. I know after the 23rd IU has almost two weeks off.

Yes. I think Rabby said something about IU wasn't looking at him. Maybe even Chris. I'm not sure. AD's know more than we do as people. Guys a great coach...but this is not good and there's no place for this.

Spot on. They've won ONE NCAA Tournament game in the Steve Pikiell era. They just out-tough IU. Nobody is afraid of Rutgers at all. Why I can't stand that Geo Baker running his mouth. They'll be an 8-11 seed this year and get bounced early once again. They can't play every game in that purgatory they call a gym.

Yeah last year we arrived early to a game only to find out that it was under construction. Had to get Goodfellas and eat it outside in December. I'll say this: Bloomington over Lexington any day. There was hardly anything good nearby in Lexington. We had to drive 20 minutes to a tavern that wasn't bad. In Bloomington there are so many great options near Assembly Hall. Lexington is the smallest big city. It was dead when we arrived/left. At least getting out of the parking garage wasn't bad.

He's overrated. They are getting tired of him. if the '23 class flops I wouldn't be surprised if he steps down.

Only so many minutes at the 4 or 5. Right now, Trayce, Race, and Malik are going to get their lions share of those minutes. I think it was like the Xavier game but if Geronimo comes in and doesn't look good Woody's not going to play him in the second half. I like the kid and his athleticism. But it's not wise to have a 6'6 guy going up against Tubelis and Ballo. Seeing a lot of ignorant posts on Twitter about Jalen's impact (not by IU fans..) It was 7-6 Arizona when Xavier Johnson picked up his second foul. Woody sent him to the bench. There was no true point guard running our offense. Arizona went on a crazy run. Indiana was lost on offense. That was the ballgame. No way that happens with Jalen out there. Tamar/Trey can run the offense against Jackson State's and Elon's..not against Arizona.

haha this was my 4th or 5th time being there. I don't like the renovations there. If you have never been it was like a shopping mall/food court and when you go upstairs you enter Corrupt I mean Rupp Arena. They got rid of it. My wife was not happy. Kentucky is like us..nuts about basketball. We were driving in and about THREE hours before their game they had their radio pregame show on...three hours before a game against Yale. I will say they do something cool after the game. They have the player of the game/coach Cal come out and fans can stay and watch their postgame show. Cal signs for anyone that has a basketball. You can ban me but I kind of like Cal. Deep down he's a good dude. Talked about the one year anniversary of the tornado and the current flooding issue in Kentucky. Side note: when I'm there I can still see Mike Davis falling on the floor when Fife fouled Williams.

I was there today. They are the definition of a team that has a great player and that's it. They go as Oscar goes. He took over. Not much outside of him. Yale could be a team that is scary if they get in the Big Dance. They didn't back down.

Losing sucks..no doubt about it. But I'm d**n proud of this team and how they fought back. I don't think any less of this team. 1) I thought Arizona was going to win comfortably especially without Jalen. Score was much closer than it actually was. Credit them. They're one of the 4 best teams I've seen this year. Indiana is not there yet. I really like Kerr. Ballo pushes off but he's a beast down low with Tubelis. Man, I'll be stunned if they aren't in Houston. 2) Indiana is a good team. You can say even very good. 2nd Round/Sweet 16. Just don't think they're elite...yet. What's the theme with both losses? They gave up massive runs. Rutgers in the 2nd half. Arizona early in the game. You can't do that. 3) Honestly, lots of positives to take away. I hope this game gets Tamar and Race going. Miller Kopp has been awesome. Hope he continues to score 10 plus a game as well. 4) This team misses Jalen-Hood Schifino. Do I think IU wins with him? I don't know. I don't think they get blown out at Rutgers with him and I don't think Arizona goes on a crazy run if he's out there. I hope he's back soon. One of my worries this off season was what if JHS and X get into foul trouble/suffer an injury. Who runs the point? I thought that hurt us tonight. Galloway and Bates are okay at time but not for long stretches. 5) Our kryptonite is going to be teams that have bigs that can slow Trayce down. Happy others stepped up, but you aren't going to win with a below average game from him. 6) Not why we lost but it's time the officials are held accountable. Between that goaltending and the Purdue-Nebraska game. I actually think IU matches up well with Kansas. But it's going to be hard to win there. I still like this team. The Big Ten is going to be brutal but lots of opportunities to show up and get a big win.
-
I just don't see them winning without him. He does so much. Me and a few buddies do a things where we add up points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and subtract the turnovers each game and rank the top 3. Trayce has been in the top 3 seven times. Next is Jalen with 6. The next closest is a few players with 3.

Bravo to coach Lloyd and coach Woodson for getting this together. This is what this program should be doing. Win or lose this will help this team. It's important not to get too high or too low off this game. I just want them to compete and play hard for 40 minutes. I'd rather lose a hard fought game in December than in March.

I'm testing at work today so I have time...Ken Pom AdjO..Iu has already played 2 of the top ten teams. Arizona is 2. Xavier is 9. UNC is 10. IU was lights out defensively against UNC. Against Xavier didn't they hit some crazy shots in the first half? Felt IU was much better defensively in the second half. On the flip side Rutgers is 6th defensively. Arizona is 65th. Looking like the second best defense IU has seen so far, but still not great. ESPN gives IU a 57% chance of winning.

I'm a pretty positive guy about this team. I wasn't overly worried after the Rutgers game. That being said, I don't feel good about this game, especially if Hood-Schifino is out/limited. Arizona's 4 and 5 guys are pretty freaking good. Going to have to hit shots to win this game. If our bench guys bring it they will most certainly have a chance. But if it turns into our starting 5 vs theirs...it'll be ugly. Someone talk me down..lol. I still like this team don't get me wrong. I just think Arizona is good. They really impressed me in the Maui tournament. One of the best teams I've watched all year. However, like UNC, they aren't a deep team at all.
