Bracketology and Team Resumes
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My prediction: Midwest region in Kansas City. IU plays Louisiana-Lafayette in Orlando. Texas A&M is the 5 seed vs. Oral Roberts as the 12. Kansas will be the 1. -

I'll be surprised if they fall to 17 on the S Curve. They were 13 going into the Illinois game and beat Illinois, Purdue, Michigan, and Maryland. Iowa was a really bad loss. Question is where do they end up? Louisville, KC, NY, or Vegas region? Seems like Greensboro, Orlando, or Albany for the 1/2 round. -
IUBB 2023 B1G Tournament March 8-12, 2023

I think this loss stings the most because this is a game this team should have won. Credit to Penn State, they wanted it more. The Penn State 11-0, 7-0 stretches killed us. It's what's going to knock this team out in a week or two... if they don't wake up. 1) Not why we lost..but I didn't like Reneau not seeing time down the stretch. He's outplaying Race at this moment and I think you ride with him. 2) Trayce did his part but 29 points from the other 4 starters isn't going to cut it. Our two bench guys combined for 20. 3) Tamar and Malik are playing really well which is a good sign going forward. Again, the loss sucks. We should be playing tomorrow. For this team to go on a run, so much has to go right. Trayce/Jalen have to carry the team. Kopp has to hit 2-3 threes. Galloway needs around 8-10 points. Bench has to play well. I think this team can absolutely get to the second weekend. As it does every year, this year is really going to depend on matchups. To put it in perspective, this team finished tied for 2nd in the Big Ten and is likely going to be a 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, 5 at worst. I would have taken that if you told me Xavier Johnson would be out for the majority of the Big Ten season. That being said...it's been win one lose one since the Northwestern road game. I don't feel as good as I did after beating Michigan on the road 4 weeks ago. But, it's March, this year is going to be crazy, and let's see what happens. -
Bingo. Why I'm not worried about next year. I think Woodson will be able to attract top transfers to campus. Jalen wasn't on draft boards two months ago. Trayce was late second round/undrafted. Now Jalen looks like a lottery pick and Trayce could be a first round pick. Won't be easy to replace these guys, but I feel he will be able to bring in talent on a consistent basis. I really think Jalen has potential to be an NBA All-Star..Trayce could be a solid rotational piece for awhile.

He's a lottery pick and that's hard to pass up. If he was a borderline first rounder, maybe. However, this is a good thing for IU basketball. Jalen wasn't on any draft boards to start the season or even two months ago. Any point guard with NBA dreams/potential should want to come here. Jalen's improved so much this year. Would love to see him back, but I don't think it happens.

IUBB 2023 B1G Tournament March 8-12, 2023

This was a very good win! Lots of very good things happened that hopefully can continue going forward: 1) How about Tamar/Malik. IU does not win without them tonight. If they continue to do this, our top 7 can hang with anybody. 2) Felt as long as Trayce/Jalen had typical games we could win. They did that and then some. 3) Defense was awesome starting the second half. Tamar especially has been impressive. Let's keep it going! I understand Penn State is playing well but no reason IU can't win that game and get to Sunday. -

Key for me is to not let them get comfortable. Maryland was 1-9 in B1G play away from home. I know it's a neutral site game but still. Also, didn't Jalen play his worst game as a Hoosier that night? I've neer been a big Big Ten Tournament guy because we've always been awful in it. However, why can't IU win this just once? This year I will be upset if they can't get to Sunday..However, I know conferece tournament success means nothing for NCAA tournament success. In 2012 and 2016 IU lost on Friday and made the Sweet 16. For me, I'd like to win this to get momentum back going. IU has had a tough schedule since February. Feels like we've won one and lost one..which is understandable with the schedule. It would be nice to win three games in a row going into the NCAA Tournament. -

I think Tennessee and UConn/Xavier are the teams ahead of IU for the 3 seed line..at least what I'm seeing. I can see Tennessee losing early in the SECT due to the loss of Ziegler. If UConn or Xavier get to the Big East finals it'll be hard to pass them. -

I agree. They have a top 5 player in our conference along with two first round picks. They aren't deep and point guard is a freshman but they can get hot. -

I'll take the long week. The team needs rest! Let's win this thing!! Would kind of make up for not winning the regular season title. -

I like the "draw" for IU. I think they could beat Maryland as they are different away from home. Would also be nice to have Northwestern on Saturday. If I had to pick, I'm going Michigan State over Illinois. I think the Illini take us down and get revenge. Hope I'm wrong. -

Bracket experts...Is IU pretty much locked in as a 4 seed? Let's say they win the B1G Tournament. Could that bump them to a 3 seed? -
Holy cow...this team just finds ways to win these games. Michigan both times. Illinois at home. Sweeping Purdue. Credit to them for fighting through. I still worry this is going to hurt us in the end. 1) Trayce has to be the best player since Calbert, right? Dude just carries us. Can't replace a guy like that. 2) Race Thompson (minus the missed freebies at the end) came up huge. He works so hard and does so many little things. 3) I hope the biggest thing that comes out of this game, outside of getting that double-bye, is confidence for Tamar Bates. He hit some BIG shots. Looks like Maryland or Illinois on Friday night, assuming they don't get upset. I felt this game was a must win. No way could IU play in the 8-9 game with all the expectations coming into this year. Credit to the players and coaches for this win. Now...the real season starts! Let's win the whole thing!
-
Must win for Michigan in terms of an At-Large bid. They have talent and if Indiana doesn't come out ready to play, that could be scary. I just hope this being the last home game of the season this team shows some fight. I'll never forget the shock in 2013 when Ohio State came in and just kicked Indiana around on senior night. Gave me a sick feeling going forward. Feel like a win and the odds of a double-bye are pretty good. I'll take that.
-
X at the 1, Trey at the 2. Cupps/Newton coming off the bench. I like that. Need a nice wing and a few bigs in the portal and I like this team...next year
-
Sucks...but I get it. Makes next year look a little better. I have to think it's certain he will get this waiver.
-
Agree. I'd like them to win Sunday and the first game in the Big Ten tournament. After that, I don't care. If they make it to the semi's and lose a hard fought game like last year, I won't be too upset. Bracket Matrix today makes it seem like everyone is in agreement on the top 12 teams. I don't think IU could be a 3 seed unless major upsets happen this weekend and next. Even if IU had won Tuesday, not sure they'd be a 3 seed.
-
Realistic shot IU can still get the double bye...insane. I can't freaking wait for the Big Ten and NCAA Tournament. It's going to be nuts this year.

Bracket experts..what does IU have to do to be able to jump to a 3 seed? Bartorvik (I know it's not 100%) pretty much has it at no chance from what I've messed around with. Figure teams in front of us need to lose. -
For the first part that's all I was saying. For sure practice needs to be uncomfortable this week. However, move on and get ready for Michigan and the tournament. Let's say the Hoosiers win Sunday and win a couple of games in the Big Ten Tournament (make it to Saturday/Sunday) I'll be pleased and feel better. For the second part IU just has no depth outside of Malik. I feel like I pick on him but Bates just gives them nothing at all and he's supposed to be the 6th man. I'm curious as to what his plus/minus is in the last 8 games.
