Probably the first recruitment in a while where I wasn't nervous at all. Sounded like 3 weeks ago this was coming. This is huge for many reasons: 1) Liam is a legit top 25 player. I'm not certain he is a one and done type of player but I think he can do all the little things as well as be a lights out shooter. Type of player you want on your team if you want to win a National Title. 2) Eric from the Hysterics has said this but this staff hasn't shown they can win these long recruitments. They finally did today. Credit to Woodson and Walsh. 3) I think this opens for Boogie and/or Queen to come to IU. Liam is going to recruit like you know what to get them. I don't think he comes to IU if he didn't think IU could land more 5 star talent. Really need to land one of Boogie or Queen due to the time you have spent on these guys. Accomplish this and you have something good cooking for 2024 and beyond.

I get the buyout is too much, but honestly if this program keeps Tom Allen for another year I am afraid to see what IU football will look like in 2024 and beyond. I think they are better off firing him after this year...It sucks. I wasn't a Tom Allen fan at first. But 2019 and 2020 fooled me. Turns out, it was more so Kalen, Kane, and Penix. I know Indiana Football will never be able to compete for a B1G title..but you are telling me they can't be a consistent team that makes a bowl game?

I was way more impressed by Liam tonight. I see why he is the #13 ranked recruit. I think like most great shooters, the rest of his game is impacted on whether his shot is going in or not. Hopefully in less than 24 hours he is a Hoosier. Sounds like a halftime announcement. So probably around 9:30 eastern time.

For sure agree on the starters will get the majority of the points. I think Cupps and Sparks will have moments. I really don't see Walker and Kaleb being much of a scoring threat. Hope Kaleb develops into one. Why it is so important CJ Gunn contributes, even as a reserve this year. 5-6 points a game from him would be huge.

Since we are inching closer to the season I am curious what everyone thinks about scoring. Probably the most uncertain I've been about how that will look in a while. I was going to post an over/under on points per game with each player. Let me know what you think! Xavier Johnson 12.5 Mackenzie Mgbako 12.5 Malik Reneau 9.5 Kel'el Ware 9.5 Trey Galloway 9.5 Payton Sparks 5.5 CJ Gunn 5.5 Kaleb Banks 4.5 Gabe Cupps 4.5 Anthony Walker 4.5 My thoughts...I think Mackenzie will lead the team in scoring. X will be 2nd. I think Malik will score double figures. Trey and Kel'el I really don't know. I can see both being close to 10 a game. I really don't have an expectation for CJ and Kaleb. I think Cupps and Sparks will be the two best options off the bench. I will say this..on offense this team SHOULD have more options than last year. They really relied on Trayce and Jalen with maybe Miller, Race, or Trey having an above average game.

My goodness this team is LOADED. Flagg will be the #1 pick in 2025. Newell looks like a lottery pick. Wright and Givens will be very solid college point guards. This game makes me want Derik Queen more. I think he is going to be a double-double machine. He is more athletic than I thought. I think he could be an All-American big man in college if he sticks around more than a year. Liam is going to be the best shooter this program has had since James Blackmon. I see Liam as a 15 PPG, 5 Rebound, 2 assist kind of player. Lacks a little bit on defense. I'll be honest, I don't see one and done with him which is just fine with me. However, both Liam and Derik are going to be terrific college basketball players. We will be very fortunate to get one if not both of them.

Liam on the 15th and Boogie on the 16th would give this program a major major boost. Would be the top story in college basketball. Also a good message to Queen, Haralson, and others. Right now Duke and UNC are the only others to have multiple top 20 recruits. I think Rutgers and maybe Georgia will join that list. However, a top 5 class brewing in Bloomington.

Agree. My expectation is to be a top 25ish team, finish top 4/5 in Big Ten, make at least the B1G Semi's and NCAA 2nd round. I will be very upset if this team is a bubble team again. That means we took a huge step back. But yes, if they can duplicate what they did last year, maybe win a B1G regular season title and/or tournament and another game in the NCAAT that will be massive. Talent wise IU I think has a top 2/3 roster in the Big Ten. Just lots of new pieces. As I said, while I love the addition, I'm just not as high on Kel'el as most are.

Saw the media poll was released today. I'm too upset with my Cowboys right now so I'd rather think about basketball. Being on fall break I had some time to do my Big Ten picks for this year. Post yours below. Preseason Poll 1) Michigan State: Great mix of vets and freshmen. Need someone to play at another level (Walker?) 2) Purdue: Edey is Edey. Loyer and Smith will be better. Can someone from the supporting cast step up? 3) Maryland: Most underrated team I think. Love Jahmir Young. Julian Reese is a stud. DHS could be this years JHS.. 4) Wisconsin: Pretty much return everyone from a team that was playing well at the end of the year. Need someone to step up. 5) Indiana: Really want to put them at 3 but too many question marks. I think X and Mackenzie will be awesome. Too much talent to not be up here. 6) Illinois: Terrence Shannon is probably the 2nd best player in the conference. I think Hawkins is extremely overrated. Lack of PG puts them here. 7) Northwestern: Buie is a very good player but Audige was just as important. They may be a fringe NCAA Tournament team. Had a lot of luck last year. 8) Ohio State: Really young team. Relying on Fr and So. Thornton and Gayle could breakout. 9) Iowa: Seem to always be in the mix for the tournament but this year feels different without a Garza or Murray. 10) Rutgers: Had the worst offseason of anyone in the Big Ten. Omoruyi is probably a top 3 big man in this conference. Just lack of talent outside of him. 11) Michigan: Solid transfer from Tennessee. A few breakout candidates. Just think Howard is not the answer there. 12) Penn State: interesting team. Love Baldwin. Not sure if they have much else. A lot of transfers from some big name programs. 13) Nebraska: Tominaga going off is their best chance to win games. Rough year in Lincoln. 14) Minnesota: Garcia is all they have. Lots of transfers. Awards Big Ten POY: Edey Big Ten POY not named Edey: Shannon Jr Big Ten FOY: Mackenzie Mgbako Big Ten COY: Mike Woodson All Conference 1st Team: Tyson Walker, Jahmir Young, Terrence Shannon, Julian Reese (my "breakout player"), Zach Edey 2nd Team: Boo Buie, Xavier Johnson, Chucky Hepburn, Jamison Battle, Clifford Omoruyi 3rd Team: AJ Hoggard, Fletcher Loyer, DeShawn Harris-Smith, Mackenzie Mgbako, Olivier Nkamhoua Hon: I think Reneau will be honorable mention. I feel awful for saying this, I just don't have the best feeling about Kel'el Ware.. Tournament Michigan State I think is a Final Four/Elite 8 caliber team. Purdue, I am just not buying the hype. I think Sweet 16. Maryland is a legit top 25 team. 2nd Round/Sweet 16 potential. Wisconsin and IU I think are teams that can win a game, 2 at the most. Illinois is an 8/9 kind of team. Northwestern and Ohio State just sneak in.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but did someone on the IU staff or Boogie Fland camp "leak" this out? Or maybe both? Just curious. Obviously things sound positive and I am thrilled. Something had to have happened. The Trilly tweet is what really started all of this today. I assume the staff has received some good news and these two players will announce on their own terms.

Yes! Thrown in Kiyan Anthony as well. I don't want to get too excited yet. Someone else said it, I'll wait to celebrate when someone commits. But man, Woodson is building a monster I think. Remember how in 2012-2013 IU was a national title contender? I really think Woodson is going to have a few teams soon that can win it all, just like that one could have. And yes, I am high on Jakai Newton as well. I think he is going to be a really solid player. Hope Kaleb and CJ are difference makers too.
