How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

I agree. But he was the best coach we've had since Bobby Knight. -
Mike Branaugh. Arrived as a 6'8" JUCO transfer the same year as Joby Wright. Didn't play much during his 2 years IU.

Perhaps, but Galloway is still better than Gunn and Banks at this point. Gunn's name is an apt one but, unfortunately, he is shooter not a shot maker. Both of them are quite lost on defense. -

Sorry. Gunn and Banks are nowhere near ready. They'll get playing time during the next two games but that will be it for a while. BTW, Galloway has had a couple of good games--20 points against Nebraska. He didn't do anything against Arizona or Kansas but nobody did. -

The problem is three of the last four games, IU has played like an Archie Miller team. The team is in disarray. They have a couple of easy games before the conference schedule gets underway in earnest. They open on the road against Iowa which is not a good place for this team to start. IU has five road games in January. Based on how we are playing now, we could lose all five except possibly Minnesota. It could be a long year unless they figure things out. -

IU was obviously overrated by many going into this season. This team is not a top 30 team and not a serious contender to win the Big Ten. -

Geronimo is only 6'6' and the Arizona front line guys are 6'11'" and 7'. Woodson didn't play Geronimo more because it was clear when he was in the game that he didn't have the size to cover these guys. It was a match-up problem. It had nothing to do with whether or not he is good enough or has the coach's trust. -

IU shot much better the second half but Arizona just overpowered them. Once TJD got into foul trouble he didn't defend although he caught a nasty elbow by not defending. Arizona was simply better and Indiana looked lost at times especially in the first half. In the second half IU got it down under 5 a couple of times but just couldn't get key stops and make shots that would enabled them to tie or get in front. -

When Race gets the ball underneath he needs to go straight up with it. His shot fake is giving their players time to block his shot. Galloway is a tough player but he is no point guard. Arizona has made its runs with Xavier on the bench. -

Same story. IU can't hit shots. Arizona is just a much better team. -

Sad. IU doesn't look like a top 30 team tonight. -

Tamar Bates stinks in big games. Terrible judgment. Get him out of there. -
Who said the world is ending? All I said was the15-point road loss to Rutgers, especially the way we lost, suggests there will be others like it on the road. Xavier is not ranked. Our win against North Carolina was their third loss in a four game losing streak. The schedule so far has not been what it was built up to be. Once we get past Nebraska--which should be a fairly easy win--and we face Arizona and Kansas, we will get a better sense of how good this team really is. If we struggle against Nebraska at home, that will tell us something as well.

Perhaps. It was also a game that shown a light on Indiana's main liability--outside shooting. Perimeter shooting was a problem last season and no shooters were brought in to correct the problem. Indiana may be a talented team, but poor shooting is still likely to be a recurring problem whenever teams play defense like Rutgers did.

It is mistake to single out one player. The problem is not one guy. Race Thompson played 17 minutes Saturday (fewer than usual) with Reneau and Geronimo playing in place of him quite a bit of the time. Race was 0-3 from 3-point range but so was Geronimo. And so was Bates. Galloway missed every shot he took including 2 3's and 2 free throws. Kopp was 5 for 9 from 3. The rest of the team was 1 for 16 from 3. Every team Indiana plays this season will try to pack it in on IU's interior players forcing the rest of the team to shoot from the perimeter. This is a coaching challenge but the players simply have to make shots. Unfortunately, this team has too many poor shooters. Either these guys start hitting shots or it will be a very disappointing season.
